The place itself was okay, but it was hard to find at first, the parking situation was horrible, and some of the other tenants behaved oddly, which made us uncomfortable and took away from the overall experience.

Thank you for your review. We’d like to clarify a few points for accuracy.
Assigned parking is available when requested in advance, and clear parking instructions are provided. Unfortunately, those guidelines were not consistently followed during this stay, which led to avoidable issues.
This is a shared residential building, and all guests are required to respect quiet hours. During this stay, noise disturbances originated from within the booked unit, and we addressed the matter promptly to protect the comfort of other residents.
Throughout the stay, we remained responsive and worked with the guest through the final day of their reservation. No concerns or dissatisfaction were raised with us during the stay. While pets are permitted when disclosed in advance and the applicable fee is paid, pets were present in the unit without prior notification.
We remain committed to clear communication, firm house rules, and maintaining a respectful environment for guests and residents alike.
The residence was clean and nice. The host was extremely helpful and answered all my questions promptly. The host also was very accommodating for my requested early check in.
Had a fabulous weekend with my family in this very spacious and super clean apartment. Sean was an amazing host and answered any questions i had promptly. Its in a very central location and we easily got around Chicago with ease! 109% recommend this rental!
Owner was very quick to respond. The place was very well kept and had everything we needed. Helpful with parking and questions. Overall a very nice stay. Thanks Sean. We enjoyed our visit.
The property is wonderful! Very clean, secure, organized and it has everything you need and beyond! Communication was very quick as well. The unity gets lots of light. One bus to downtown Chicago. I’ll definitely stay here again!
The apartment was pretty much perfect, enough room to have space away from the other people in your group.
Parking was fairly easy, other than the first night when we made the mistake of driving downtown at night only to come back to no open spaces in front of the building. We ended up parking just down karlov street by the salvation army and returned to a busted out window. Nothing was in the car to steal, luckily for us it was a rental car. I'd definitely try to park as close to your window as possible.
Everything with our trip started out great. The host was informative and helpful with the check in process. Unfortunately, less than 2 hours after our arrival, our vehicle was broken into and the windows were shattered. While filing the police report, we were advised by the police to not stay in the area any longer. We no longer felt comfortable as 4 females and opted to leave the VRBO and move to a hotel. Due to VRBO's policy and the hosts decision to not refund any of our stay, this became a very expensive trip for us. Due to the unfortunate circumstance and the lack of willingness to try and accommodate the situation from VRBO and the host, I would not recommend staying here if you are parking a vehicle.

It’s disheartening to read this review, especially when it’s clear that the claims made are unfounded. Everything started off well, and the host was accommodating during check-in. However, this guest seems to be fabricating a narrative that simply doesn’t match reality.
The assertion that their vehicle was broken into is not supported by any evidence. The security camera footage shows no damage or break-in to their car, contradicting their account. It’s hard to believe that the police would advise a group of four females to vacate the area without any substantial reason, especially when there was no evidence of an incident.
This review appears to be an exaggerated response to a situation that had no basis in fact. It's important for future guests to know that misrepresentations like this can unfairly tarnish a host's reputation and mislead potential visitors.
We really enjoyed our week staying at the Karlov Inn! The apartment was spotless and attractively decorated. All of our needs were anticipated, and the kitchen and bathroom were stocked with everything we needed and more. The unit is in a small apartment building, located in a tidy family neighborhood. Although North Avenue is shabby, we found it had friendly businesses where we could eat and get groceries. The check-in process was a little bumpy, as we did not receive an email with our unit number or passcode before arriving. The manager got back to us fairly quickly, though. There is handy parking behind the building, which is accessed through a gate. Again, we didn’t receive explicit instructions on this, but managed to figure it out. For anyone not familiar with an all-in-one washer/dryer, be forewarned that the dry cycle takes many hours!
Overall, we found the apartment to be convenient to our activities all over the area, and a lovey oasis at the end of the day.

Why they chose this property
Karlov Inn was chosen and prepared with intention — not for photos, but for the people staying in it. Classic Chicago brick character. A quiet, family-oriented residential street. A King bed that delivers real sleep. A kitchen built for actual cooking. A back porch that gives you private outdoor space most Chicago apartments simply don't offer. Nothing here feels improvised — everything is set up for a smooth, comfortable, professionally managed stay.
