nice western guest house in Placitas
I enjoyed my stay at the Western Guest house in Placitas. I have always liked the peacefulness of the Placitas area and this place gave me the opportunity to enjoy it. Jake and Robyn were very attentive to any needs that I had. The guest house was tastefully decorated and offered nice views of Shiprock in the distance.
Response from VrboOwner on 17 Mar 2020
We enjoyed having you stay with us, and especially grateful for helping us " roundup " our escaped horse that one night. That view of " Shiprock " is actually a view of Cabezon, an extinct volcano cone on the way to Cuba and Chaco Canyon. Best of everything, Jake & Robyn

What a pleasure to stay at Jake's casita. So charming and full of fun western decor and comforts. It felt so good to return there every night after a long day. We relished every moment. Beautiful property and views, and so quiet. Just what we wanted! Jake and Robyn were wonderful hosts. Hope to return again.

A Charming Southwestern Guest House with Spectacular Views
We loved the Southwestern theme throughout the guest house as well as the panoramic scenery in all directions. We also loved the privacy and complete quiet we experienced while staying there. The Finkelsteins were a delightful couple and mentioned several events we could attend in the area. Placitas was an easy drive from Albuquerque and getting to Santa Fe was also a reasonable distance. We would love to stay in this delightful hideaway again the next time we visit New Mexico.

Away from the city lights
The guest house was very pleasant. It had everything we needed. Jake was available if we needed anything else. The rooms are large without much separation, so no individual privacy here. That did not bother us.
The location is off the highway and up and down curvy roads, some unpaved. It is hard to see at night to get there. That is also one of the great things about this place - it is so dark at night, if there are no clouds, you have a great view of the stars.

Serene, so comfortable, a delight!
Jake and Robyn are amazing! They really cared and were available to answer any questions we could think of about the area or help if anything came up. The property is very easy to find off the main road from the freeway (we drove in at midnight). It's close to Bernalillo, where you'll find all kinds of restaurants, shopping, and Albertson's (grocery store) are very close, about 10-15 minutes away. At the guest house, you feel as if you're far from civilization, the night sky plastered with stars it's so dark (unless it's a full moon, and then it's like there's a flashlight shining down from the sky), yet seemingly in minutes, you are in the middle of a good sized town/city.
The guest house is very comfortable with several seating areas, so everyone in a group could have privacy to read, etc. Just a few steps out the door on the property is a trail that leads to so many trails and so much hiking it would be impossible to hike them all in months, probably! It takes 10 minutes to hike to the top of the first hill, where you can see for miles and miles. The views are breathtaking. The views are also great from the guest house itself, and the property so quiet and relaxing that we'd sit on the couch inside with no tv or music just watching the birds and squirrels at the feeders and gazing out at the hills in the distance.
We spent two of the best weeks ever at any VRBO property. We will most definitely be back and will make Jake and Robyn's guest house our place to recharge from busy life. We left utterly refreshed and so happy. The property, Jake, and Robyn exude the best energy. So welcoming, so kind, so helpful. So delightful!

Great location and hosts!!!
My family enjoyed our stay. Jake and Robyn were very welcoming and great hosts. The house was as pictured and very comfortable. We were not expecting how well stocked the house was with supplies; everything from kitchen spices to a sewing supplies. The location was great, very safe and pet friendly. We enjoyed the nature trails around the property and around Placitas. I would recommend their property to others.

Charming Retreat
What an enjoyable, comfortable and homey stay we had for 2 months! Jake and Robyn are wonderful hosts, the views and the surrounding nature is more than you can ask for. Such a comfortable and homey, and thoughtful western decor made us feel right at home. There are many walking areas closeby, as well as lots of things to conveniently see and do around Placitas, ABQ and Sante Fe/Taos areas- but yet we felt like we were in a secluded nature environment. We had a great stay and look forward to returning!

Excellent Accommodations and Amenities for Pets
We arrived very early in the morning and not only were we able to find accommodations for our horses ready and waiting, but so was Jake! It was very nice having the horses right across the driveway and a great place to ride the open spaces not far, like a ten minute ride. Sorry we did not take advantage of other riding locations during the visit, but maybe next time - this place is definitely on our need to return to list. The personal space was very large and well equipped for many needs, much more than we were there for. Owners do deserve the respect that they readily give their guests, they are very knowledgeable about the area and are ready to answer any question. The Ballon Fiesta is not to be missed if visiting at that time , but strongly suggest leaving earlier than you think you should as the traffic flow does not allow for mistakes and three times we were unable to get to the park due to traffic back ups. Again, looking forward to staying here again when next feasibly possible. Looking forward to riding more of the wide open spaces.

sunny retreat
I fulfilled a lifelong dream of visiting the Santa Fe area and stayed at the Charming "Western" guest house in Placitas. The setting was gorgeous and the hosts were more than helpful and friendly. I can't say we had any complaints whatsoever. It was close to both Albuquerque and Santa Fe so we were able to explore the area with ease. Jake gave us suggestions about getting to our destinations on scenic routes that took our breath away. The guest house was clean, quiet, and well-equipped for all our needs. We found the people in the area to be very friendly and helpful. I would recommend the guesthouse to those who want to experience life in that area rather than a motel that looks the same everywhere.

Jake and Robyn were lifesavers!
We stayed at this adorable guest house for 7 weeks while awaiting the completion of our new house in Placitas. The accommodations were perfect for us and our dog. Everything you could need or want is available, including a laundry, which was really helpful for our extended stay.
Jake and Robyn are delightful hosts and we now consider them friends in our newly adopted community. We would highly recommend staying at this property. You are out in the country, with hiking trails and wild horses roaming nearby, yet very convenient to the Interstate and local area attractions.

Placitas is a wonderful high desert community located in the NE foothills of the Sandia Mountian Range. It is an ideal place to live and visit due to wonderful weather, scenery, and proximity to Albuquerque, Santa Fe and other incredible destination spots NM is noted for. If you are looking for a nice quiet place to relax, or utilize as your base for exploration, look no further. We were fortunate to find this guest house and stay for several weeks this past summer, while undergoing reconstruction at our place. Jake and Robyn are terrific host and wonderful people. The unit is offered at a very competitive rate.

Great Vacation Memories
We stayed for a week in June 2011 and absolutely loved it. This was our first trip to New Mexico and we were looking for the comforts of home with a convenient location and privacy. We explored the area by day and were able to relax in this beautiful and peaceful setting at night. Jake and Robyn were very helpful when asked for local info and it was a pleasure to be their guests. We had a great experience and would recommend this property.

Wild Horses
We had a very enjoyable stay in this place. There was plenty of room for the 4 boys and us. It was secluded and good place for hiking as well. What we most enjoyed was seeing the wild horse herd
grazing just across the way. We actually saw them twice in a week, which was exciting to all. The place has plenty of dishes and so forth, and we cooked all our meals easily. Internet was reliable, and we hooked up our WII to the big screen TV they have too. Lots of dvd's and games are provided for the kids and they will give you more if needed. A great place to kick back!!!

February visit
We stayed here for a week in February 2011. Well-furnished guesthouse on outskirts of rural development in the hills east of Bernalillo. Everything worked, including wireless internet (that's the one thing that often does not, but no problem here). Our hosts were friendly and helpful. The view wasn't spectacular, but it grows on you. Nearby walks down arroyo and into hills frequented by wild horses. We'd stay there again.
Ink black nights with stars that blaze extra bright just for you, silence so profound that you swear the breeze is actually whispering sweet nothings in your ear as she wraps invisible silk around your shoulders, sunsets that take your breath away and sunrises that impulsively demand the tears that you forgot about . Sage, Juniper and Ceder bring back your senses that have been dulled from city grime. Plus Host's that invisibly make sure your stay is as pleasant as humanly possible. Walking trails, wild horses a short 1/2 mile hike, the charm of old Albuquerque and Santa Fe within equal distance of this delightful Guest House. Whatever MY reasons have been for returning time and again, you will find YOUR delight in your stay here. Need a place to write? How about paint? Catch up on reading, or sleeping...you will find a reason to keep coming back and will feel reconnected, recharged. And you will find new friends. Recommend this place? Absolutely!
Jake and Robyn are the tops. They make you feel like part of the family. The atmosphere is quite yet very drawing. One cannot go out side and not be beckoned to go explore the foothills. You can sit and see a endless array of beautiful multi colored mountains. Hear the echos of the coyotes. and the sweet tweeting of a plethra of birds. and do not forget the breath taking sunsets, as you nestle into the quaint cozy warmth of the big comfy bed or hide to read a book in the pivacy of the great loft area. Open the drapes to exprience a gorgeous sunrise as you smell the cooking of black beans, authentic tamales or tortillas and eggs you can find at any local shop. You might even get to see the wild horses that roam the foothills. Then know what ever your tastes in vacation is you can find it just minutes away from Jake and Robyn's.
About the host
Hosted by Jake Finkelstein
We moved to NM in 1970 and found it to be truly 'enchanting.' The weather, scenery and culture of this part of the country can't be beat. Our property is located far enough out of town to be beautiful, quiet & private, but only minutes away from all the advantages that cities have to offer. We enjoy making our guests feel at home and sharing our knowlwdge of the area and great places to visit and things to experience .We look forward to your visit.
Jake & Robyn
Why they chose this property
We love the area, and it is close to friends and our work. This community is one of the best & most desirable places to live in NM.
What makes this property unique
Drive in any direction from Placitas and the area changes so dramatically that you will feel you have traveled to another country. Santa Fe is the art capital of the southwest, and yet is only the tip of the cultural iceberg in NM. There are 6 Indian Pueblos & many historical sites nearby, and great hiking & biking right outside your door. The house sits in a high canyon valley overlooking the Santa Ana & San Felipe Pueblo lands, with the Jemez mountains & Cabezon to the west. Wild horses often wander down the slopes, and they may surprise you on your hikes. World Class Golf at the Tamaya Resort is 15 minutes away, and Paako is just over the mountain. Take a ride on the longest tram in the world to the top of the Sandia (means 'watermelon' in Spanish) Mountain Range and watch the lights of Albuquerque come on following a magnificent sunset. There is so much to do and see you will want to come back often. And of course, don't forget the largest International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in the world through the first two weekends of October. Let us point you in the right direction, whatever your tastes may be. Bienvenidos! Welcome to New Mexico!
