About this property

The Gathering at High Mowing

The perfect location for your very special events and gatherings!
Nestled in the mountains 5 minutes from Williams College, this amazing Berkshire home brings together beautiful nature & sophisticated culture in an incomparable & eclectic way. Each room is expertly appointed with fine art & antique furnishings specially curated from the homeowner’s private collection. Settle down with a book from the extensive library or play the Baldwin grand piano. The sitting room or courtyard by the massive kitchen gather the whole family together. The space is a uniquely welcoming home, High Mowing is different from any other accommodation in the Berkshires.
Enter this single level house through the craftsman’s marble and granite stonework or directly along an accessibility ramp. Beyond the TWO full kitchens there is endless living space, with four distinctive and inviting bedrooms. Three full bathrooms include an especially luxurious one that is fully handicap accessible. Outside at the fire pit, with mountains arrayed before you and the starry sky above, it is time for those family s’mores or a romantic evening glass with your loved one. From the outdoor spaces of the house or around the acres of open land, witness the splendor of Fall foliage or the lush greens of summer. That great deck overlooks mature gardens to the superb scenic vistas beyond. Perennials, fruit trees, grape arbors, blueberry bushes -- all meticulously cultivated to provide vibrant color throughout the growing season. Among the wide variety of wildlife that roam the grounds, expect to see deer, fox, wild turkey. Let our guests tell you themselves – for example: “The deck overlooks an incredibly landscaped yard (lovely for your morning coffee), the fire pit is perfect for an after-dinner night cap, and the sunroom is great for game night or just a sun-filled sitting area.” “As we drove onto the property, we were greeted by a prancing family of deer in the distance of the idyllic grounds. The property is gorgeous, the inside of the house is fantastic!”
Cooking: High Mowing is the perfect place to host small family gatherings that center around shared cooking and meals. With TWO full kitchens and a 10-person dining room, entertaining is a cinch. The chef’s kitchen is superbly outfitted for your cooking adventures. Every imaginable kitchen gadget, pot, pan, and spice are available for your use. There are several sets of ‘every-day’ dishes as well as holiday themed dishes to entertain. Again, our guests can tell you: “I have to note that this is not your standard rental basics-only kitchen. This kitchen is stocked with every tool, gadget, and piece of cookware imaginable - a dream for anyone that loves to cook! We made many extravagant meals throughout our weekend, which I can't imagine trying to replicate in our tiny NYC kitchen.” “The kitchens - yes, two of them - are well stocked with staples and any equipment that you would need to cook even the most difficult of recipes. "The baking/caterer’s kitchen features a gas stove and everything else that might be needed. Stashed there you will also find the owner’s personal collection of family cookie recipes. Want to have your family dinner catered by one of the local restaurants? No problem! This second kitchen is the perfect space for service.

Another unique feature of High Mowing is the beautifully appointed modern handicap bathroom. It features a low step-in tub and hand shower as well as a huge roll-in shower providing easy access for a guest with a chair or an aide.
Sleeping: All rooms feature hypo-allergenic duvets and duvet covers and/or coverlets, piles of pillows, and freshly laundered fluffy towels. Our guests appreciate the care we take: “The house was spotless and the bedrooms were dressed with fresh linens.” Bedroom 1 is located in the rear wing of the house with the other two bedrooms. It features a queen-sized bed, twin-sized sofa bed, ample closet and expansive views of the estate. BR 1 has access to either the handicap full bath, or the second full bath located in the rear wing. Bedroom 2 is adjacent to Bedroom 1 in the rear wing and features a double sized bed, a large collection of novels, an ample closet and expansive views of the estate. BR 2 has access to either the handicap full bath, or the second full bath located in the rear wing. Bedroom 3 is in the rear wing, just down the hall from BR 1 and BR 2 and features a futon that is made up as a queen-sized bed. This room has an entrance from inside the house as well as a private exterior entrance. BR 3 has access to either the handicap full bath, or the second full bath located in the rear wing. Bedroom 4 is nicely separated from the other sleeping quarters at the front of the home. It features a twin-sized bed, ample closet, a computer desk, and adjoining full bath. This room doubles perfectly as an office space. And overall our guests love this house: “A magical place which our family hopes to return to many times!” “High Mowing is such an amazing [place] and is just a few minutes from Williamstown but with beautiful views, especially from the deck. You can walk from the front door to an extensive network of hiking trails.”

perfect for parents for wedding weekend
We rented High Mowing for four nights during our daughter's wedding weekend in Williamstown. It was a great choice, close to town but with beautiful land and views to look out over. We hosted the brides' party for their glam session before the ceremony, and the roominess of the place made it a fun venue for that. Great kitchen! Host was very responsive.

Beautiful, quirky home!
We had 6 adults for our visit and also hosted a larger family dinner at this home, and our experience was lovely. The home is well appointed and the host was very helpful. Highly recommend!

Fall weekend getaway
We took the opportunity to spend a long weekend with our family enjoying the fall foliage and beautiful mountains. The house was centrally located for our stay and we had plenty of room to spread out. My daughters always wanted to cut the hikes/sightseeing short so we could return to the house. I will be disappointed to return to cooking in my small kitchen! We will definitely plan another visit!
