The Steinhuder Meer is the largest lake in Lower Saxony. It is ideal for cyclists, hikers or water sports (sailing, surfing, kitesurfing). But also for those who just want to relax and enjoy nature. Boat rentals for sailing, electric, pedal or rowing boats are available on site. Also bicycles can be rented.

The Steinhuder Meer lies approx. 30 km west of Hanover and is with 32 square kilometers the largest lake of Lower Saxony, in the heart of the eponymous nature park with 310 square kilometers. The most important resorts on the Steinhuder Meer are Mardorf, Steinhude, Hagenburg and Rehburg-Loccum. The landscape is diverse with dunes, bogs, heathland, wet meadows, deciduous and coniferous forests and reed zones. By train you can travel from Hannover Hbf by regional express or by S-Bahn in about 20 minutes to Wunstorf or Neustadt am Rübenberge and from there by bus 710/711 or 715 to Steinhude. In summer there is an additional hourly cycle bus service (line 835) from Wunstdorf to Mardorf, Steinhude or Hagenburg.
