The cottage sits on a very pretty lake 2 hours north of Toronto. The property is close to the town of Huntsville, very close to the Rain Lake entrance to Algonquin Park In Kearney.
It offers an authentic cottage experience, with beautiful furnishings, and a lovely view of the lake from multiple decks. Nestled into the Almagiun Highlands, you'll find the lake, sandy beach and surrounding flora and fauna, a very special location.

Don's cottage is situated on a gorgeous lake, with the beach being a few steps from the cottage, where our dog and my husband spent most of their time swimming, SUP'ing and playing fetch. The cottage has a warm homeliness feel to it and has all the necessities, including a fire pit and hot tub for the cooler evenings. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back!
We have been vacationing at a cottage in the fall for the past six years.
We all agree that this was by far the best property we have stayed at!
The cottage vibe is cozy and warm! We felt comfortable upon entering!
The scenery of the lake and surroundings was beautiful!
Anything that you would need is there. Just bring your food and clothes!
Fishing was great!
Water access was easy!
Fireplace and hottub!
The host is very friendly and communication was excellent!
What more could one ask for!?
We will definitely be returning!
Thank you for sharing your family cottage with us. It was actually bigger than expected from the pics on the website. We could all hang out in the main room (living, dining and the kitchen) quite comfortably. The location was so peaceful, and the lake was nice and calm. Perfect for our paddleboard novices. Unfortunately, the sailboat did not get much action. The sandy beach with the shallow water was kid friendly as was the side deck with the Adirondack chairs where the kids could play without wandering. Our host Don was quite attentive and checked in to make sure we found everything OK. It was a great week with the family! Thank you, Monica
Our family reunion stay at this lovely venue was with 10 people, including 3 couples and 4 children. The VRBO pictures do not do this property justice. There is a large private beach with all the boats and toys you need. The cottage had ample room for all of us. The owner was easy to contact and provide information quite quickly. The check in and out was seamless. All we required was our personal items ,clothing
and food. Literally everything else was provided. The cottage was large enough to accommodate us all. All the appliances worked well. The large central room was nicely furnished. The hot tub worked fine and there was plenty of free firewood. All the boats and toys were in good working order. We had a great time and the kids hardly left the beach.

It would have been great
Our stay would have been amazing if we were able to get in.i was told by the host that the doors will be open.not a single door was open out of three.
we were at the cottage for more than 2 hrs waiting for host to pick up our countless calls and emails.also got in touch with vrbo help, they werent able to get hold of the host either.horrible horrible horrible.we had women and children with us aswell.
Somebody screwed up,im not saying it was the host but somene screwed up big time.
We had to drive back to the city after waiting for the host to pick up the call for more than 2 hrs.
The kids were planning for this for weeks.
Disappointment to an extent i cannot explain in words.
This cottage has everything ready to go for a great cottage experience. We enjoyed the rustic and hominess of it and it definitely shows the family pride in ownership. It is spacious and fully equipped, all we needed to bring was food and our personal belongings. It can easily and spaciously accommodate more than the 5 adults we had. Furniture and kitchen items are in good shape and not ready to fall apart when used. The ++ knotty pine throughout is great.
The lake is a nice size for canoeing and kayaking with few motor boats zipping about to create waves. Some wildlife to watch included ducks (mom and little ducklings), a loon, a beaver and a magnificent heron. The beach was sandy rather than most cottages that are rocky. We enjoyed the use of both fire pits with the one down by the beach being great at night when the (many) bugs came out.
A bonus surprise was the hot tub which was great for hanging out in on the rainy days. Don, the owner was fairly quick to reply to questions.
A couple of opportunities would be to add a second kayak and or a paddle board which would allow 2 people to go out together on the lake. The one kayak that is there seems quite old and difficult to steer.
Overall, everyone agreed, including my grown up children, that this was a great getaway on a beautiful spot and they would gladly come back again.
We are 4 generations of “fishermen” and have been staying in various places for 45 years in Kearney area. This was by far the most private and comfortable place we have stayed in. Strongly recommend booking here,. Don was an amazing host.
We had great fun at this cottage. We went with two of our friends and their family. Weather was perfect. It only rained once. Cottage is fully furnished and has great neighborhood. Owner Don was very helpful.
We really enjoyed our stay at Murphy’s Funny Farm! It’s a great spot for relaxation. The kids enjoyed fishing, boating, paddling and swimming. Nice a close to many cute towns and Huntsville. We hope to return someday.
