This place was abysmal. The first problem was the door. They weren't kidding about it being hard to open. That night, it stormed and the door must have swollen in the humidity because it turned into a fight getting it open and closed from then on.
Once we got in, the smell was *intense*. The whole place reeked of dog/pet/urine and, towards the back of the house somehow it got even worse. Blanketed on top of that was a thick layer of cheap air freshener. Literally every room had at least one plugin or standalone air freshener. The place was *rank*.
Thank God we brought house shoes because the floors were awful. After barely 2 days there our shoes were coated with a layer of weird, sticky filth. My wife ended up throwing hers in the trash on the way out.
One of the bathtubs dripped constantly could not be turned off. There were at least two places where door stops had fallen off leaving protruding nails (pointy end out!) that had then been painted over. There were palm-sized flakes of paint coming off of the wall on one bedroom.
When prepping my 4yo for bed the second night, I fully pulled his covers back to put him on it (so he could put his PJs on without having to step on the floor barefoot) and found fleas crawling around between his sheets. Later that night I found fleas on myself too.
We were out of there in the morning. I booked a nice hotel downtown (for $100/night less than the VRBO house!) The only saving grace was that the host refunded our remaining two nights.
