About this property
Charming Canal Home, 2 Blocks from Beach Access
Welcome to Captain Hank's (formerly Captain P's)!
This 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom cozy canal home can sleep 8 people, making it a perfect spot for your next family vacation. The spacious layout offers a large kitchen and living space with panoramic views of the canal. The house features a huge back porch, deck, gazebo, and floating dock.
The kitchen is very well-equipped with just about everything that you'll need to cook big family dinners, or quick lunches during a break in the day. You'll find plenty of cooking equipment, toaster/convection oven, electric griddle, all for your use during your stay. Off the kitchen is a full-sized washer and dryer, plus extra cabinets to store snacks (up high and out of sight of the kids!).
The main bedroom offers a king bed, dresser and nightstand with drawers for clothing storage, and an attached bathroom with shower and single vanity. (Please note we keep the closet locked for owner's storage.) The second bedroom has a queen bed, closet, and dresser. The third bedroom (we've dubbed it the bunk house!) offers a double bed plus a twin-over-twin bunk bed, closet, and dresser stocked with games, toys and art supplies. A second bathroom at the end of the hall has a single vanity and shower/tub combo. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan and small TV. The beds each have pillows and quilts and extra blankets, but you'll need to bring your own sheets, pillowcases, and bathroom linens.
In the living room is a big sectional perfect for family movie night, and a well-loved leather reclining chair that is a favorite for afternoon naps. We have a large TV with Roku device (bring your own logins!), and antique record player with a few vinyl records to choose from.
Downstairs is our unfinished game room with another TV, small couch, chairs, pool table (disclaimer: it's survived a few floods). The game room does not have heat and cannot be accessed from the main living space, but it does have a wall AC unit and dehumidifier. During the summer it tends to get musty, but it's a great space for kids to play while the grown ups have happy hour on the deck. The outdoor shower will make cleaning up after the beach a breeze, and the hammock makes a great place to relax after a day in the sun.
Located the 5th house from Ocean Blvd, the house has Beach Access near the end of the adjacent street, a very short walk away. A five minute walk in the other direction you'll find another beach access, the Holden Beach General Store (perfect for odds and ends you'll need through the week), a small local surf-shop, and ice cream shop!
Located centrally on the island (less than 2 miles from the bridge), our home is in one of the few canal neighborhoods of Holden Beach. Bring your boat for the week and drop it in the water at the free boat ramp under the Holden Beach bridge, or bring your kayak, paddle boards, or jet skis. Tie up on the floating dock, where kids and adults alike love the fun of fishing and crabbing from the dock. If you're a seafarer, you'll enjoy quick access to the Intracoastal Waterway, and the Atlantic Ocean is just a 10-15 minute boat ride away through the inlets at each end of the island.
The house receives evening shade on the back porch, which is perfect for dinner and a relaxing view of the canal. Stroll to the beach in just five minutes to watch the sunrise and sunset. There aren't many places in North Carolina where you can see the sunrise and the sunset from the beach - but Holden Beach is one of them!
The house also features an enclosed garage to securely store jet skis, beach gear, your bikes, and/or small car.
We purchased this home in 2021, did some redecorating, and through the process we have fallen in love with Holden Beach. We're happy to answer any questions you have about the home or the area, so please feel free to reach out! Looking forward to hosting you soon!

The island is very long, but not very deep, which offers residents little crowding and a lot of beach “to themselves.” Very little commercial development is on the island itself, which is attractive to many visitors. A short drive over the bridge offers numerous specialty stores, shops, and restaurants, putt-putt golf, and waterslides. Large grocery store is available right off the island for easy shopping. The Town of Shallotte just 10 minutes away has several different grocery and department stores that provide all the necessities.

About the host
Hosted by Emily & Michael Bishop

Hello from Michael & Emily! We are transplants from the Midwest who both landed in the Triangle area of N.C. in the early 2000s. We love North Carolina and live full-time in Apex, N.C. We are a blended family with four young kids, and we keep super busy raising them and taking care of our day jobs, and in our spare time we're always DIYing something and running down to the beach.
Why they chose this property
We bought the Holden Beach house in 2021, after several months of searching up and down the N.C. coast. We had no idea that Holden Beach existed, but it has become our happy place. Captain Hank's is named after Michael's dog Hank, who Michael always says was his captain for 15 years. You'll find a few pictures of Hank throughout our house.
