The McHugh House complete restoration is like going back in time to an easier way of life while enjoying modern amenities. Two person clawfoot tub in master bath, 5 by 8 foot barrier free roll in shower and full sized washer & dryer in the brand new 2nd bathroom. Fully working period correct kitchen with 7 foot retro electric fridge/freezer. TV room with kitchenette. High speed internet. Furnished with Victorian beds (new mattresses) and antique furniture. Like being able to stay in a museum! Right across from the Virginia Street Village gazebo and one block from Zachary Farmers Market every Saturday. Brand new Park one block away under the oaks with playground and picnic tables. Lush private gardens at the house with outside dining and seating in the shade. One of a kind, just for your enjoyment. Near many popular tourist attractions and in a walkable, family friendly neighborhood. This home was the House of the 1st Mayor of Zachary and built by the 1st Station Master of Zachary. Original Train Depot nearby.

McHugh House is part of the National Historic Registered Virginia Street Village all of the buildings are on their original sites next door to one another covering 2 blocks.

Birthday Get Away

This was just what I needed and more! I originally booked the McHugh house for the backyard to host a tea party for my 40th birthday. To my delight, I arrived to find a large dining room with a table which seated 12- the exact number of guests! It was such a lovely set up I switched to the inside. This worked out especially well because there was rain the day before the event and the ground was still damp. The house surprisingly had enough tea cups, saucers, and silverware for my group. Saturday I relished coffee at the table while I prepped in the sun lit kitchen. I successfully used the stove and oven. We also got to enjoy the Saturday farmer's market which could be seen from the front porch. We even got to try Peruvian food from a food truck at the market for lunch. My party guests were all impressed with the home. We finished the evening on the porch with a bit of swing dancing, and I finished the night with a long, glorious soak in the clawfoot tub. It was quite the treat just outside the city!

It was SO much better than we expected!

We were coming from out of town and didn’t really know the area. The pictures on the listing DO NOT do this house justice. It’s absolutely stunning and so much bigger than I imagined. It is in the cutest part of town! We felt like we were living out our Gilmore Girl dream of staying in a small town. The house was exceptionally clean and wonderful. My only suggestion would be to have a little fire pit outside so guests can enjoy the night air. Also, I wasn’t exactly sure what all needed to be done at check out other than taking the trash out and cleaning dishes. We put some towels on to wash before we left, but we didn’t know if we needed to strip the sheets off the bed. That definitely wouldn’t stop me from staying here again! It was so amazing. Thank you for letting us stay, and I look forward to coming back!
