Only non- resort beach neighborhood in Kohala Resort Area.Old Hawaii
Puako is the only non-resort community on the coast between the Waikoloa and Mauna Kea resorts on the Big Island. Puako Beach Drive runs along the coastal reef for two miles with many beach accesses. It is one of the best diving areas in all of Hawaii. It was home to Native Hawaiians. Hapuna Beach, a top rated beach in the world, is a few minute drive away. We have seen more than 50 sea turtles in an afternoon out on the reef. Puako is a quiet neighborhood. Perfect for a morning walk or hike out on the reef.

This is a great little property - clean, nicely furnished, beautiful neighborhood with lots of ocean access and fun things to do nearby. The owner was great to work with and his communication was exceptional. This would be an easy place to come back to again and again.
Ideal location. Lovely property. Super clean. Lots of amenities as advertised and some pleasant surprises (e.g. cupboard spices, plastic ziploc bags, etc.). Easy check-on and out and super responsiveness of the property manager.

Good Stay
Well stocked and a great location to explore the NW of the island. Unfortunately, no one told us that the house immediately across the road was undergoing significant renovations, lots of noise early in the morning. Also, be aware that Puako Drive is being torn up and water/sewage mains are being replaced, lots of heavy construction in the area.

Turtle Bay Stay
The property is in a good location and our stay was very quiet. The bed was comfortable enough. The condo is showing it's age in the kitchen and some of the floor is showing it's age as well. The handle on the refrigerator was broken, however, still usable. I brought this up with Paige when it was noticed. The beach accesses were great for exploring and we did see alot of turtles. Overall it was a relaxing stay.
Our visit to the cottage at Puako Beach was everything we could hope for. It has access to the beaches in the area, it’s a residential area with quiet street and neighborhood and the cottage has anything you can think of already there, from TV to super comfortable king bed in the master bedroom and lots of pillows to choose from. There are paper supplies, lots of sheets and towels, a new washer and dryer, spices and small appliances, shampoo and sunscreen. Plus it’s close to shopping areas and coffee shops. We highly recommend it. Oh, and lots of sea turtles on the beach and sperm whales out in front.
This condo is located in a very quiet old part of hawaii that seems to be redeveloping. Across the street on the ocean are mega mansions but on the other side are more like cottages and regular condos. This isn't really a resort area - no restaurants or stores except for a cute general store down the street. There is an area at the end of the street to watch turtles and tide pools. As for the condo, simple but very clean and responsive owner. Kitchen was well stocked so we were able to cook a lot-love that they had a rice cooker. Just wish they had a more comfortable sectional couch as the the set up with the Hawaiian furniture is not very comfortable or conducive to watching tv with more than 2 persons. However beds are very comfortable with good linens and lots of towels. Bathroom is recently remodeled too. My only real issue is that directions to get to the condo and how to find the unit and lockbox are really not clear. Especially if you arrive at night and it's raining, very difficult to find the condo. The street is very dark. Look for the mailbox on the left side of road that says Ennes in red letters and park right before it. Doors were not numbered or labeled and the lockbox was actually on the storage closet and not the unit door - no doors were labeled so took us a long time to figure out how to get into the condo. I hope owner considers getting an electronic keypad, labels the doors and gets better outdoor lighting to make the check in easier.
