About this property

The Barn at Bourne House ↟↟↟ Peaceful retreat close to skiing, breweries, biking

New to Vrbo, June 2022! Welcoming new and returning guests since 2016 with outstanding reviews, the Barn at Bourne House is located between the Stowe Mountain Resort and the village of Stowe. You'll enjoy comfy beds, post & beam rustic spaces, mountain views and all the necessities for making your stay enjoyable. The Barn is convenient to shops and restaurants, the Recreation Path (Stowe Bike Bath) and trails. Skiing, mountain biking, hiking and beer tours are all nearby. A stone's throw from The Alchemist Brewery, home of Heady Topper IPA.

The Barn at Bourne House has a "great room" layout, with a stone gas fireplace. The kitchen area features banquette seating, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. An antique desk and high speed wifi make working from the Barn comfortable and easy.

The primary bedroom has a queen bed with premium linens and cozy robes for two and a television with a Roku for streaming your favorites. The guest room has two twin beds and an armoire with robes, shelves and hanging space.

Adirondak chairs on a private stone patio on the ground floor level provide a place to relax and admire a field of wildflowers and views of the Worcester Mountain range.

While we rarely root for rain, we love the sound of it on the tin roof. We've provided plenty of cozy bedding and throws for cuddling up for a storm. Fluffy bath towels and plush robes may make it hard for you to peel yourself away!

We think the location of the Barn makes it the perfect home base for any visit to Stowe. It is furnished with boutique and antique items that make it feel like home. Some items we gathered while living in Belgium and the UK. Scott, a former officer in the US Navy, brought carpets back from Pakistan. Other items are antiques passed down from family or collected over the years. We think our guests notice the special qualities of the items we've added to make their stays more comfortable. We've had many remark that we've "thought of everything."

For guests with children or people who tend to make noise in their sleep, please note that the ceilings are all open to each other (see photos). The bathroom is located on the first floor. Living space, kitchen and bedrooms are on the second floor. We want our guests to be thrilled with their stay, so please be sure this is okay with you before booking. Guests with children please also note that it is not possible to gate the top of the stairs.

Nice stay at The Barn at Bourne House
The Barn at Bourne House was clean and comfortable. Great location near many of Stowe's restaurants, hiking trails, and breweries. Photos in the Vrbo listing represent the property accurately. I would not hesitate to stay here again when in the area.

Lovely stay
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here, it was a beautiful property. As well, the house was very clean up on arrival. I did communicate with the property owner about dead batteries in the remote, she responded promptly and was very helpful. I highly recommend staying here, A because of the house itself but B it is very centrally located. I didn't have to drive more than about 15 minutes to some of the places I wanted to go do, and dinner only about 3-6 minutes away which is nice. Loved our stay!

Vacation time is precious. I love helping people find the perfect place to stay and enjoy all the best this wonderful town has to offer!

We moved to Stowe after having a vacation home here for many years and are thrilled to be here year round, close to our family roots. My husband Scott and I are former partners in a local craft beer distributorship and import company. He is always happy to talk beer and is sometimes around to help me greet guests.

I've lived in Florence, London, Antwerp, Philadelphia, Boston, Rochester and a few places in between. I've traveled around Europe, Africa, Australia, Canada, Mexico and the US. I've loved it all, but there's no place like Stowe!

Why they chose this property

The Barn at Bourne House was completed in the summer of 2016. We needed a barn for living in Stowe year round and decided we'd create a special space for hosting our friends and family as well. We borrowed elements from our home, the shiplap paneling, board and beam ceilings and rustic finishes. We love spaces with lots of light, so we added huge windows and designed the living space to let the light flow from room to room. We designed this place ourselves and built it with help from local craftspeople and professionals.

What makes this property unique

We think the location of the Barn makes it the perfect home base for any visit to Stowe. It is furnished with boutique and antique items that make it feel like home. Some items we gathered while living in Belgium and the UK. Scott, a former officer in the US Navy, brought carpets back from Pakistan. We think our guests notice the special qualities of the items we've added over the years to make their stays more comfortable. We've had many remark that we've "thought of everything."
