About this property

Charming Old-World Casita, complete with all the modern conveniences.

Gated New Mexico Southwest Casita, with private patios, views of the lights of Albuquerque, plus volcanoes and the Sandia Mountains. Hot air balloons launch on most mornings around our house. Enjoy sunsets, wildlife like; quail, roadrunners and the sounds of coyotes moving thought the desert on a nightly prowl. During the sunsets you will see Great Horned Owls swooping down to get their nightly snacks while thought-out the day you will see, Red-tailed Hawks, Turkey Vultures and "Cooper's" Hawks fly over daily. Plus we just added a private blocked in back patio and out door kitchen facing west, to enjoy our fantastic high desert sunsets - Natures best.

Great vacation spot

My husband and I went to NM to visit friends and decided to stay at this beautiful property. We loved the quietness and beauty it provided. I love the monsoon season and this property was a great place to watch and experience a quick yet powerful storm. We had all the amenities we wanted and more. So relaxing. Short but wonderful visit

We stayed five days while visiting family nearby. The remote location felt like home (we live in the country), and Mike and Bernie made us feel like family. We have recommended them to family that might visit the area in the future. Nothing was lacking--no complaints.

Comfortable, clean and peaceful

Michael and Bernie are great hosts and very nice. The Casita is very clean, comfortable and well stocked with basic kitchen and bathroom supplies. The location is peaceful with a beautiful view of the Sandia Mountains. We would stay here agsin.

Clean, well-appointed, friendly. Quiet area although it’s on a dirt road. Thee as t didn’t bother us at all. Mike and Bernie respond quickly to messages We would like some softer pillows and no fragrances in the unit or on the linens.

Work and Play in Rio Rancho!

Awesome place to stay for work and fun! Hosts were nice, helpful, and friendly during our stay. Would definitely stay again! The casita was extremely nice and had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend.

Staying at the Casita with the views was the best Vrbo experience ever. Safe and Quiet, Just out of the way with great views but close to everything you would need . Coffee on the back patio in the morning after a good sleep on the most comfortable bed! This Casita had everything you need to enjoy your stay. Decor, so cute and the skylights made us think we left the lights on . Michael and Bernie , thank you for sharing your Casita ! It was great talking with you and we will be back to stay here for sure .

A great little casita, on the top of a hill with great views.

The casita was immaculate and well- stocked with everything we could want. Our hosts were attentive, helpful, and never intrusive,. We found the unpaved road a bit of a challenge and we felt it was a bit remote.

Amazing casita in Rio Rancho

Mike and Bernie are the best! We had a great stay. The casita is beautiful and cozy! I loved watching the sunset from our private porch. Our hosts thought of everything. There were snacks, water and plenty of linens. They even supplied a book of movies we could borrow. I can’t say enough about this VRBO!!!

The Casita was a delightful home away from home while visiting our son in Albuquerque. Mike & Bernie are wonderful hosts and made our stay memorable. The Casita is clean, comfortable and has everything you need for a short or long stay. The area is safe, quiet, beautiful and close to amazing shopping, restaurants and attractions. We enjoyed dining out as well as eating in, utilizing the well stocked kitchen and grill. We highly recommend The Casita…you will not be disappointed! We are already looking forward to a return visit!

Rio Rancho 10 day stay

This VRBO is outstanding. The place is well stocked with extra towels, snacks, kitchenware, and information on local attractions. You can also choose from a collection of 900 dvd movies. The hosts were great and very helpful. You will have to drive a bit to see the sights in Albuquerque or Santa Fe.

Comfort and Serenity

I had to visit Rio Rancho for a funeral. Bernie and Mike were truly wonderful hosts. The property is beautiful and well kept. If we find ourselves back in New Mexico, we will definitely want to stay here.

Best Casita in Town!

Our stay at the Casita was absolutely perfect! The casita was spotless, beautifully decorated, and had everything we needed for a comfortable vacation. The location is off the beaten path, but we were pleasantly surprised by the peaceful atmosphere and views of the Sandias. We saw a hot air balloon one morning and we remained warm and cozy while temps dropped and snow fell. This casita is attached to the owners home, but you’d never know that. I hardly saw them while we were there, but when we did, they were like your own family! The host was incredibly responsive and accommodating, making our check-in and communication seamless. They offer over 900 movies to choose from for your entertainment. Everything was so comfortable and exactly what we hoped for. We can't wait to return for another wonderful getaway!

Over the top

Just an amazing spot with great views and night skies. Clean, fully appointed space with everything one could want, including a waffle iron, and two coffee makers. Mark and Bernie were kind and attentive. Bed was comfortable and had extra bedding and pillows in the closet. Definitely will stay there again!

Wonderful Stay, Beautiful Property, Amazing Hosts!

We were in town to visit some family over Thanksgiving and had a great stay, not just because of time with family, but largely because of Mike & Bernie's beautiful, clean, and comfortable property. The bed was comfortable and has lots of storage. The walk-in closet provided even more storage. We loved the large jacuzzi tub with water that gets nice and hot. We were able to unwind after long days of family time with access to Netflix and a DVD player. The kitchen had everything we needed and the entire place was very well kept and clean. There was no outside noise since it's nestled in a sparsely inhabited mesa area. The only hiccup had to do with parking, but our gracious hosts quickly worked with us to accommodate.We highly recommended this stay and we have already decided that the next time we are in the Albuquerque area we would love to be able to stay here again! Michael is from Ramsgate England, born abroad of an American father who was in the US Air Force. Michael (a US Navy Veteran) was the City Coordinator and Manager of the world renowned "NM Veterans Memorial Park and Visitor's Center" in Albuquerque NM. A 26-acre Park with a Museum, Library and 100s of Veteran related Monuments. Retired as of January 2025 and fulltime property manager, of the Casitas' site.

Bernie was born in Roswell New Mexico and has lived here most of her adult life.
Bernie's father was also in the US Air Force, and she traveled to multiple exotic destinations like; Guam, Philippines and Europe while growing up. Currently Bernie works for a Non-Profit Organization as a Loan Representative helping students with their education. She is planning on retiring within the next year.

Together they live in the main house, (which is separate from the Casita) manage and maintain the "Southwest Casita Escape" property.

Why they chose this property

We chose this neighborhood for its peace and quiet, but more importantly, the stunning landscape views and abundant wildlife. There's no dangerous wildlife, just plenty of squirrels, quails, hawks, turkey vultures, and coyotes.

What makes this property unique

We are located on the east side of the ridge formed by the volcano's lava flow, on the west side of Albuquerque. From our land, you can see the Sandia Mountains, all seven volcanoes, Mount Taylor, and the Santa Fe Mountains.
