If you are looking for a great getaway spot close to LA, but you want to feel like you are nowhere close to the city, this is the spot for you. The home was beautiful and private. My fiancee and I spent a night after our engagement at this property and it was everything I was looking for and more. The Topoanga town is great to explore as well. Samantha was responsive, very accommodating to my needs, and had a great attitude throughout the whole process. I would come back!

The area has no internet or phone reception, making it difficult to check in. I believe the host should have informed us of this in advance. Parking is available on the street across from the house, so be sure to check. The house is beautiful and filled with vintage furniture, but the toilet and kitchen are connected by a sliding door. This detail is not apparent from the photos, so I recommend not inviting anyone other than family. Common items like oil or salt are not provided, and the nearest market is more than 10 minutes away by car with no delivery available. Please bring all necessary food and seasonings with you. We had to dispose of our own trash, but the bins were full and we couldn't fit any more in.

I always inform guests of the lack of cell service on the mountain prior to check in. Here is a sample of a note I send to every guest
CHECK IN
-There isn't any service up here until you sign into the wifi, so make sure to copy down all check in info before heading up the mountain!
Ran arrived after dark and I was personally available to help her and her family check in since they hadn't read the checkin instructions.
I'm always available to help guests check in if they need assistance.
I leave cones out to reserve your parking spot.
Salt and pepper is provided. Oil is not provided.
The General Store and Canyon Gourmet are 8 minutes away in our little Topanga town center. And you can also get deliveries from Sprouts Market on Ventura in Woodland hills.
The garbage bins were not full. We ask guests to take out their trash when they leave to mitigate oder in the house.
About the host
Hosted by Samantha Jacober
Originally from the East Coast, I was drawn to California by its incredible natural environment. I enjoy hiking mountain trails, swimming in the ocean, and experiencing the diverse wildlife that Topanga offers.
Why they chose this property
Topanga is the jewel in the crown of Los Angeles. It's where the city meets nature—a place where rugged canyon landscapes, mountain trails, and ocean breezes come together to create something truly special. Originally from the East Coast, I was drawn to California for its natural beauty, and Topanga embodies everything I love about living here.
What makes Topanga unique is not just its stunning environment, but its people. There is a genuine sense of community here that is increasingly rare. Families, artists, musicians, entrepreneurs, free thinkers, and nature lovers all call this canyon home. Neighbors know one another, local businesses are supported, and community events bring people together throughout the year.
I love spending my days hiking through the surrounding mountains, watching hawks soar overhead, spotting deer and other wildlife, and taking in the incredible views. Being just minutes from the ocean means I can enjoy both mountain adventures and beach days in the same afternoon. The local farmers market, the charming town center, yoga classes, live music, art events, and seasonal festivals all contribute to the vibrant character of the community.
Topanga has a creative spirit that has attracted artists, writers, and musicians for generations. There is a deep appreciation for nature, wellness, sustainability, and independent thinking. At the same time, there's a peacefulness here that feels worlds away from the pace of Los Angeles. Whether it's listening to music under the stars, gathering with friends at a community event, exploring hidden trails, or simply enjoying the quiet beauty of the canyon, Topanga offers a lifestyle that is both inspiring and grounded.
For me, Topanga is more than a place to live—it's a community, a refuge, and a constant reminder of the connection between people and nature. It truly is one of the most unique and special places in Southern California.
What makes this property unique
What makes this space truly unique is its sense of peace and connection to nature. Nestled among mature oak trees and surrounded by a lush fern garden, the property feels like a private sanctuary. Hummingbirds regularly visit the garden, while rabbits and even peacocks can often be spotted wandering through the landscape, creating a magical canyon experience.
The outdoor spaces are designed for relaxation and enjoyment, from soaking in the hot tub beneath a canopy of wisteria to breathing in the fragrance of blooming jasmine on warm evenings. Natural light pours into the home throughout the day, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere that changes beautifully with the seasons.
Inside, the space is filled with character and artistic touches. Original artwork adorns the walls, while carefully selected antique and mid-century furnishings give the home a timeless, curated feel. The master bedroom features a charming and distinctive bed nook, creating a cozy retreat unlike anything found in a typical home.
One of the greatest luxuries of all is that adventure begins right outside the front door. Miles of hiking trails are easily accessible from the property, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the beauty of the canyon without ever getting in a car. It's a place where nature, creativity, comfort, and tranquility come together to create a truly unforgettable stay.
