About this property
Amazing View w/ Deck, Pond, Sledding Hill - 137+ acres - Great for Families
This light, bright and spacious house gives you a feeling of being on top of the world. The decor is simple but hopefully aesthetically pleasing. The 137+ hikeable acres are a wonder in all seasons. This is a true getaway. In the past few years, we have made our best efforts to be ecologically positive. The solar panels give back to the power utility about 95% of the usage, and hot water is heated via electricity instead of propane. There is a generator in case of a big storm outage. Parking is abundant. Each main room has its own heating/air conditioning split. There is a living room wood stove (and wood provided) for extra warmth in the winter.
You can find lots to do in the area, or just stay and enjoy the view. Mount Snow is 19 minutes away, traffic dependent. In the winter there's a great sledding hill and--if it's good and cold--a pond to slide on. Lake Whitingham, with multiple aquatic choices, is 15 minutes away. In summer, the pond is swimmable, and fun for frog-catching and using the blow-up raft.
If you like to cook, the kitchen is completely equipped. The house is set up so that there are private areas and public areas. You can have alone time, or congregate. There are 3 bathrooms, one on each floor. The game room has a ping pong table. It's the kind of house where you'll have a wonderful vacation whether you ski or you just kick back and enjoy the beauty of the place. New router for the wi-fi with speeds of 25-30/10-15 mbps.
Each bedroom is private. There's one with a king-size bed, and 2 bedrooms have queens. The children's room has two twin beds, toys, and books. We welcome you to peruse the books, and use the games and toys, if you have children.
There's a queen futon in the game room, which is on a separate floor and has its own bathroom, TV and electric piano.
We've owned and loved this house since the sixties, and we hope you will find this house an idyllic place to rest and enjoy.

About the host
Hosted by Lyn Bertles
We are a family of musicians and writers who like to walk in the woods. There's an electric piano; there are music stands, Ping Pong table, games (we are Scrabble fans) and plenty of privacy for quiet reading. This is the perfect house for those who like to stay at home while others are skiing, as the house is such a pleasure. There are 100 hikeable acres down "our valley". Food shopping and a big drugstore are seven minutes away, yet the privacy is perfection.
Why they chose this property
We first built this house in 1965, and enlarged and modernized it in '95. Our house is completely private - you can't see or hear any other houses (although there are houses perhaps 1/4 mile away). Even the view is just nature, just trees and mountains. We chose to come here because we love Vermont, and Wilmington is within reach of both Boston and New York, as it's just over the Mass. border. There's plenty to do here, but it's not all frantic traffic and street density as it is on Cape Cod or in the Hamptons.
What makes this property unique
There's something about standing on our deck and looking at the view that is totally relaxing. Then there's that walk to the pond, where one can swim or raft, and, in winter, the pleasure of watching children take sleds from our woodshed and slide down the hill. Wilmington has all sorts of sweet shops, and Brattleboro is 30 minutes away, a town of artists and craftspeople. Manchester and its outlet stores is an hour away. Of course, for skiers there's Mount Snow or Stratton--or you can just snow shoe in our woods or sled down the hill.
