To the south, the view extends far beyond the green village through the plain to the Mediterranean, southeast to the border mountains "les Albères" and further to the dominating 2785m high Pyrenees summit the Canigou, "holy mountain" of the Catalans.
In the hinterland with views over the plain (about 27 km) to the southernmost end of the French Mediterranean coast, the Côte Vermeille is worth staying at sandy beaches, steep cliffs and in small secluded bays. Not far from the artists' centers Céret and Collioure "the small picturesque town" as Henri Matisse lovingly called it, you will find us. a. numerous traces of Picasso, Chagall, Cocteau and Dali. Southeast dominated by the mountain panorama of the Pyrenees with the only 42 km from the sea, all towering Canigou (2785m). In the Corbières, eastern Pyrenees foothills, the Cathar castles Queribus and Peyrepertuse cling reverently to the steep cliffs.
