About the host
Your host
We are an outdoor-loving family, 100% born and raised in Michigan. This is where we spend most of our weekends,. We’d like to share our special place with you.
Why they chose this property
Our cabin is situated in a small, quiet wooded neighborhood the Huron-Manistee National Forest a half-mile from the lower AuSable River, with a multitude of opportunities for boating, fishing, and kayaking nearby. These waters are known for big Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike, Perch, Bluegill, and Walleye. The area also features a healthy population of turkey, deer, and other game. We are less than 10 minutes away from the small town of Glennie, which has a grocery store, hardware store, and a Dollar General. Gordon’s Bait Shop by the river has a good selection of tackle and live bait. There are several scenic lookouts nearby to check out the river from a high vantage point. River Road, voted Michigan’s most scenic drive, is 1.5 miles away.
What makes this property unique
We like to enjoy morning coffee on the porch while listening to the birds. Most of the time there’s surprisingly not a lot of bugs here. Morning fishing on Five Channels often gives you the entire lake to yourself. We have a backyard fire pit with firewood provided. Our water tastes as good as the bottled water from the store. We actually fill jugs with it and bring it back home after our stays. Ride your ATV/UTV down to the end of our road where it joins the DNR trail system. This general area has little or no trail traffic, a variety of geography, and great views. Ride to Alcona Pond or Oscoda and be back home in a couple of hours. Cell coverage is weak on the property, but we have internet with Wi-Fi to keep you connected. There’s a DVD player and a nice sound system in the closet, where you can pair your phone and Pandora account to stream music in the common area and/or the porch.
