Thanksgiving adventure
We rented the Ranchette to steal our sons and their families away from the busy metroplex. We had the best time. There were 9 of us total. The kitchen was large enough to prep and cook the meals. The 2 living spaces were gracious and comfy. The fire place won us over on the chilly mornings! The bedrooms were spacious and connected to bathrooms. And the view…gorgeous sunrise every morning. I would note if you are not comfortable sleeping in a queen size bed bring an air mattress to set up in the back living space. There’s plenty of room for one or two and overcome that minor inconvenience with the queen beds. But overall, we would do this rental again 1000%! The owner communicates clearly and quickly. Such a great first experience for our family!!

I am a retired aerospace engineer, formally at Lockheed Martin in Grand Prairie. I grew up in the DFW area and went to work at Lockheed after graduating from Texas Tech, and the University of Texas at Austin. While at college I learned to barefoot waterski. Soon after college I met friends that were "trying" to learn to barefoot down here on the Brazos River. I've been in love with this area ever since.

Why they chose this property

This property is unique. The house was originally envisioned as a church retreat. The house has been remodeled, but you can still imagine a green bean casserole being passed from the kitchen to the main living area! Lake views are nice and there are plenty of places to explore. Walk up on the mesa and look around. There's a 300 massive view.

What makes this property unique

Outdoor space abounds with amazing views of the lake - walk or drive up to the top of the mesa to enjoy the view. The ranchette shares the 44 AC property with two mesa top cabins. These are included in a separate listing.

THINGS TO KNOW

We are pet friendly!

There is plenty of parking for boats and even RVs. At this time, we don’t have RV hookups (but this is planned).

The ranchette has two standard 12 cup coffee pots. Coffee is included, but you may want to buy more or bring what you like.

There is 100 feet of elevation change on the property and the road is fairly steep going to the top of the mesa. The road has chip seal, and you should not have any trouble getting up to the top. Medium duty trucks benefit from use of four-wheel drive to keep from spinning and tearing up the road.

It’s easy to get to Cleburne State Park or Meridian State Park, explore at the old bridge at Brazos point, take your boat upriver at Kimble Bend (especially if you ski).

There are some pretty good restaurants at Walnut Springs, Meridian, and Clifton. Whitney has some nice places to go for breakfast. There are actually places to dance in Walnut Springs and Whitney.

If you need anything before, during, or after your stay, please feel free to contact the host.
