The living area has a recliner sofa and recliner loveseat. It features a stone fireplace with a wood-burning stove and large glass viewing door so you can watch the flames crackle or fall asleep with the fire still roaring without concern.
The living room and master bedroom have TVs, DVD players, and a small library of family-friendly movies and TV series. Bring your own streaming services to play on our large screen Roku TVs with Starlink internet. Starlink is the best satellite service available but satellite will always be slower than terrestrial service. You may experience some buffering with streaming services, especially during peak usage hours and if you are using multiple devices.
The home has beautiful hardwood flooring as well as tongue-and-groove wood ceilings throughout. It boasts a fully equipped gourmet kitchen with French-door refrigerator, granite counters, oak cabinets, a stocked coffee bar, and all the utensils needed to craft your culinary masterpiece.
The rustic décor maintains a rare sense of elegance with authentic antiques, handmade quilts crafted by local artisans, as well as works created by Appalachian painters, potters, woodworkers, and photographers.
The master bedroom is on the main floor with huge windows, a memory foam king-sized bed, TV, and full bath. The second floor offers cathedral wood ceilings and two additional bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with a bunk bed. The second floor has a dedicated workspace in one of the bedrooms, a full bath, and a large open loft set up for board games and puzzles. We offer zone heating and AC so guests can choose their own comfort level.
The covered porch has four rocking chairs and views of the surrounding forest. We offer a wide-open recreational area with chairs, a colossal fire pit, a picnic table, a swing, and a reflection pond. Sorry, no fishing in the pond.
Foxwood Hollow is nestled amongst the trees and very secluded, but only 4.1 miles from the nearest Ingles grocery store and only 5.3 miles from the nearest Walmart so you can stock up provisions for your family adventure.
The cabin is located 6 miles from historic downtown Franklin which is lined with quaint shops and restaurants serving local fare and farm-to-table cuisine. We’re 16 miles from Highlands, North Carolina which is also home to fabulous eateries, art galleries, and one-of-a-kind boutiques.
The drive from Foxwood Hollow to Highlands, NC is one of the most scenic in the country. The road follows the Cullasaja River as it meanders through the Cullasaja Gorge, past the breathtaking Dry Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Cullasaja Falls. The route provides overlook parking spaces at multiple points to take photos or to simply admire the splendor of God’s glorious creation. On your way to Highlands, you’ll also pass Jackson Hole Gem Mining which is a must for kids of all ages.
We’re minutes from the Cullasaja River which has several tubing options and a short drive from Cliffside Lake.
You can also go exploring up the Smokey Mountain Highway to Sylva, NC which is 24 miles from Foxwood Hollow or the quaint town of Waynesville at a 43-mile drive.
Explore the Smoky Mountains on horseback. Dillard House Stables offers guided excursions that lead you through lush meadows, majestic forests, and babbling mountain brooks.
If hiking is your thing, let Foxwood Hollow be your base camp for your next expedition. We’re minutes from several of the most awe-inspiring trails in the nation including the Wesser Bald Loop, Rufus Morgan Trail, Wayah Bald Tower, as well as section hikes of the notorious Appalachian Trail and Bartram Trail.
Franklin is home to a 9-hole golf course with pristine greens that are open to the public. Franklin also has two fantastic disc golf courses, Old Siler Farm with 18 holes and Sunnyside with 9 holes.
In the winter, we have several ski and snow tubing options available including Highlands Outpost on Scaly Mountain, 23 miles away, Ski Sapphire Valley, 28 miles, or Cataloochee Ski Area at 52 miles away.
Access
Guests have access to the entire main floor and second floor except for a couple of cubbies where our personal belongings are stored. The basement level is not available to guests except for the laundry room and basement access door.
The cabin is situated on a private, twenty-four-acre estate. The caretakers’ cabin is the only other home on the property and is not visible from the Foxwood Hollow cabin. The caretakers’ cabin is visible from the fire pit and recreational area but is separated by the gravel driveway.
The Foxwood Hollow cabin, driveway, lawn area around the Foxwood cabin, and firepit recreational area are the only areas available for guest use. Please keep away from the caretaker’s cabin and yard as well as other areas of the property.
Getting around
The roads leading to the cabin are all paved. However, the quarter mile gravel driveway is not. The driveway has a moderate incline and is accessible by most vehicles with front-wheel drive. The secret to getting up the hill is to maintain a consistent speed of around twelve miles per hour. If you stop on the hill, you’ll need to back down the hill and start over, unless you have a four-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive vehicle.
Vehicles, such as two-wheel-drive pickups where the drive train is in the rear and the majority of the vehicle’s weight is in the front, will not be able to climb the gravel incline unless they have all-terrain or off-road tires. The driveway is inaccessible to motorcycles or vehicles with less than 4” of ground clearance. The property is not accessible during ice and snow without a four-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive vehicle.
What to Expect
We offer a coffee maker, coffee grinder, French press, blender, hand mixer, pots, pans, cutting boards, knives, glasses, cups, plates, and utensils for up to six guests. We provide towels, wash cloths, and sheets. Foxwood has a hair dryer, vacuum, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, iron, ironing board, as well as a full-sized washing machine, and dryer.
For short stays, we provide an adequate amount of soap, shampoo, conditioner, toilet paper, paper towels, and laundry detergent to get you started. For longer stays, you may need to resupply some consumables. Also, if you have special needs or allergies, you should bring your own products.
This is a real log cabin which means it is constructed of wood that expands and contracts as the outside temperatures rise and fall. These expansions and contractions cause minor creaking and popping sounds on the second floor in the late evening and early morning hours when exterior temperatures are fluctuating. Those who are sensitive to sounds may want to bring ear plugs or plan on sleeping in the master bedroom on the main level.
Cellular service is spotty and may not be available, depending on your provider. Texts require less signal strength and will often go through when a voice call won’t. Service is great in town, which is six miles away. If you don’t have a connection, you can place important calls when you go to town.
We are in the woods and do not have trash pickup. We provide service times and directions to the nearest drop-off center located four miles away.
We keep firewood stocked near the house and the fire pit. The first 10 logs of firewood per stay are on us. Using the honor system, we charge $2.00 a log for additional wood.
We’ll send a payment request at the end of your stay for additional firewood charges.
House Rules
No third-party renting. The person renting the cabin must be present.
Remove shoes before entering.
Inform me immediately if something breaks, spills, or stains. Accidents happen and I won’t be upset if you tell me right away.
Maximum occupancy is six people. No parties. No pets. No smoking. Cigarettes, cigars, pipes, or vaping are not permitted anywhere on the property, inside or outside.
No fishing in the pond. No fires except in designated outdoor fire pit or fireplace.
Children must be supervised at all times.
No discharging of firearms on the property unless your life is in imminent danger. Moss Knob outdoor shooting range is located 12.7 miles away and the drive out is gorgeous. For an indoor, pistol-only range, Jeff’s Ammo and Arms is 5.8 miles away.
The Foxwood Hollow cabin, driveway, lawn area around the Foxwood cabin, and firepit recreational area are the only areas available for guest use. Please keep away from the caretakers’ cabin and yard.
Trash must be taken to the near-by drop-off center and not allowed to accumulate for more than three days between drop-offs.
Load and run dishwasher before leaving. Remove all food from the refrigerator and take your trash to the drop off center when you leave. Lock the door on your way out.
