About Chris Wej
We fell in love with this magical property on top of the hill and decided to build a unique dream house for our retirement. We are too young to retire so decided to share it with you and your family as a vacation rental.
Chris Wej purchased this House in 1997
Why Chris Wej chose Hawi
North Kohala is known as God's country. It is the richest part of the island in terms of natural beauty.
What makes this House unique
There are spectacular coastal views and You can see the chain of Hawaiian Island from the Lodge. There are moonbows on certain nights. Star gazing is perfect from this property.

It was as beautiful as the pictures....
This place is amazing. It was hard to leave. It really is as stunning as the pictures, and Chris was super responsive. We didn't want to leave.
Quiet, clean, good communication with property owner. Well taken care of landscaping
Truly outstanding. I could not imagine a more perfect upcountry Hawaii stay. Just minutes from Hawi town, a short beautiful drive to Waimea we loved our stay and will be back. Kigali lodge is even better then the pictures. The attention to detail creates a warm home style stay on an amazing 3+ acre of land with incredible daytime ocean and Maui views and the night sky so magical we slept outside one night to view the stars. Chris is a wonderful host there to do anything to make our stay perfect. Mahalo Chris, we will be back!
We stayed at the Lodge 3 days and wished it had been longer! The setting and house are so peaceful, and have a beautiful view of Maui, especially at sunset. The kids also really enjoyed petting (and feeding) the horses and sheep, and playing in the grassy yard. Chris and Carol were excellent hosts, stopping by in the mornings to check on us (when we were up and about) and give us tips about our adventures for the day. The location is also awesome for visiting the Hapuna and Kauna' ona (Mauna Kea) beaches, and so much nicer than staying in a hotel in Kona! Highly recommended.
A beautiful and unique getaway
A wonderful ranch house, impeccably kept with incredible attention to detail. Beautiful panoramic views. Gracious hosts. It had everything we needed/could imagine.
It was away from beaches and activities (30 min drive) but that simply prompted us to adventure every day.
Stunning view, friendly sheep
We totally enjoyed our stay at Paniolo Ranch house. The house itself has been carefully built in the style of a 1890's ranch house. Chris, the landlord, has many interesting stories about this process. The setting is spectacular with a view across green pastures down to the ocean. And the livestock is endlessly entertaining from newborn lambs to old rams. This house served us well as a refuge each evening after touring the island and as a destination in itself where we could sit and take in the beautiful setting. As an added bonus, Carol's store in town has lovely merchandise.
Be aware that the second and third bedrooms are actually a shared loft. Screens are available for some privacy, but it is not for those who need isolation from the rest of their group.
Thanks, Chris and Carol for a beautiful week.
