Stay in a piece of history - the Rock House of Metaline Falls was built by renowned architect Kirtland Cutter in 1910 and is one of the most unique homes on the National Register of Historic Places. The Rock House sits on a scenic bend of the Pend Oreille River just outside the town center of Metaline Falls, an outdoor recreation paradise and hotspot of regional architecture that hosts six buildings on the National Register.
The Rock House was designed by Cutter to be a unique blend of Romantic architecture and the Arts and Crafts movement. The interior of the Rock House was built to combine welcoming grand spaces with the comforts of a idyllic cottage - creating a home that was both spacious and intimate.
The Rock House and its grounds have been lovingly maintained for over 100 years by the residents of Metaline Falls - the home features original fixtures, floors and windows just as Cutter designed and built them. The Rock House kitchen and bathroom were restored by local craftsman in 2021 and 2022 to their original style while integrating modern conveniences and appliances for daily use.
The Rock House main level consists of a great room, conservatory, kitchen and dining room. The upper level has 3 bedrooms, a sitting room, and a bathroom. The home has been furnished to reflect the historical design elements and maximize guest comfort.
Air conditioning was added to the Rock House in 2022 to help protect the home from heat damage in the high summer - the bedrooms and the kitchen have individual temperature controls for guest comfort.
