Luxury Year-Round Lakefront 4 BR Home Near Acadia, Bar Harbor & Blue Hill
About Dan Staples
Dan and Dana fell in love with Maine on their very first visit, and lived in Cape Elizabeth Maine from 2009-2013. Although they live in Alabama now, they make the 25 hour drive to Toddy Pond every summer. It is worth it! They hope to spend the entire summer in Maine permanently in the not too distant future. :-)
Dan Staples purchased this House in 2002
Why Dan Staples chose Penobscot
When we moved from Boston to the South in 2002, we had a dream about retiring to Maine some day. When we stumbled on this lakefront gem, we knew it was destiny. It's so quiet and peaceful, but lives like a "real house" not a lakefront cabin or something. We were smitten and the rest is history.
What makes this House unique
The way the house sits elevated above the water, with the huge deck looking out through the trees at the lake is just spectacular. You could just sit on the deck for hours. The fact that it's situated in a cove is just a bonus -- the cove is always calm and perfect for swimming. Finally, the living area is just spectacular -- a two story living room with a massive granite fireplace and huge wall of windows facing the lake makes every day a beautiful day.

Beautiful, Spacious Home Near Acadia and Bar Harbor
This home was the perfect jumping off point for treks into Acadia and the Bar Harbor area. Peaceful and secluded, the home itself was a phenomenal place to relax and have fun. Nestled right on the smooth, clear waters of Toddy Pond, with its private dock, and loons calling, morning coffee was delightful and kayaking was a breeze. The home was equipped with a ping pong table, foosball table, cabinets full of board games and shelves full of DVDs and books. The kitchen was well-stocked and spacious and the living room space with gorgeous granite fireplace was perfect. With so much at the home, we really didn’t need to leave, but there are so many lovely harbor towns nearby to visit with quaint shops and restaurants. Acadia is only about 45 minutes to an hour away and the drive is really pretty. We enjoyed watching the sunrise then hiking at Cadillac mountain, scrambling on the rocks on the Schoodic Peninsula , visiting Fort Knox and the observatory, and partaking in multiple lobster feasts.
This area of Maine is just beautiful and Loon Cove was the perfect place to stay.
A very nice quiet spot.
Most all VRBO rentals are pretty easy to get through the rental process. And this one was no exception. Very easy with clear replies and confirmations and reminders for payments. But what we enjoyed most was how quiet and peaceful the location was. And actually pretty easy access to many locals. A very nice propert.
Wonderful stay at Loon Cove
Our family just had a wonderful ten days at Loon Cove. The beautiful house and the way Dan has arranged things around it provide a serene setting for enjoying the wildlife, trees and lake. Our kids loved swimming, kayaking, fishing and playing ping-pong in the basement. This year we saw loons, geese, ducks, a bald eagle, fish, turtles, frogs. Loon Cove has so many lovely spots for enjoying a book, a view, a coffee. What a lovely peaceful place.
We had a great time. Would come back.
Perfect lakeside retreat
We spent a wonderful week at Loon Cove this summer. It was a joint holiday with two families and the house was the perfect venue. The living areas are spacious enough to accommodate 8 people easily and it's amazing to have the film room & games area in the basement. The kids loved kayaking around the lake and taking a picnic over to the island.
The week we stayed it was quite hot and the lack of air-con in two of the bedrooms wasn't ideal, but this was the only negative in an otherwise fantastic stay.
Would thoroughly recommend to any large groups wanting a peaceful lakeside house with Arcadia and Bar Harbor an accessible distance away.
Perfect Waterfront Vacation House
We had a wonderful July stay at Loon Cove. The property was exactly as described. The house was very clean and extremely well stocked. Mattresses and linens were above average for a typical rental home. The kitchen is spacious and ideal for cooking dinners at home. The home is well equipped for small children and Toddy Pond was ideal for our 5 children ranging in age from 9 to 14. We fished, swam, and explored the area on our rented kayaks and paddle boards. The owner responded quickly with any questions leading up to our stay. Check-in and check-out processes were very well outlined and convenient. The owner also sent detailed information regarding the area and surrounding towns that was very much appreciated. We would recommend this home to anyone looking for a peaceful, waterfront stay in Maine.
Toddy Pond is the perfect lake for a Maine getaway. Ten miles long, but only a mile or so wide, it has three
distinct sections, and many rock outcroppings, making it the choice for those looking for a quieter alternative
to other area lakes. (It’s not conducive to large pleasure boats because of its topography.) The home is
located on the western shore of the middle section. So if you are looking
for a place of solitude to relax, swim, fish, and canoe, but with the convenience of nearby attractions, this is
the place for you. The charming oceanfront town of Blue Hill is only 15 minutes away, with Acadia and Bar
Harbor about a 45 minute drive.
