We booked this property in advance for my son’s ninja competition. As we were on our way the day we were supposed to check in I contacted the host to get property access information. She told me that there were long term renters already staying at the property and she had no idea that it was listed as available on Vrbo. We had to try to find a hotel last minute and ended up paying way more than we would have since we had to settle for whatever we could find.

This is correct somewhat. There were other guest that had already checked in days prior to his booking. I didn’t receive notification of his booking or I would have notified him and Vrbo. Once he contacted me directly I advised him and contacted Vrbo immediately to issue him a full refund. Vrbo stated that he last minute booked this, but the dates still should have been showing unavailable. I always reach out with welcome information and a greeting once booked. So to not hear from a host up until check in time should be concerning before then. Sad you didn’t get to stay and had to find last minute accommodations.
