About this property

Private modern off-grid lakehouse with guest cabin

Beautiful off-grid lake house on Skitacook Lake, miles away from the nearest telephone pole or paved road. Enjoy time with family and friends around the campfire, fish and swim of the dock, hit the ATV trails, or relax on the balcony. Bring your canoes, kayaks or paddle boards to explore this unique lake with rocky shorelines and beautiful views. The lake house sleeps 9 and the guest cabin sleeps 8. Please inquire with the host for weekend availability and the guest cabin add-on for groups <10.

Fully-furnished kitchen with propane appliances. Propane lights throughout the house or flip a switch for electric lights (Kohler generator). On-demand hot water, propane monitor, wood stove, recessed lighting, charcoal grill, large stone fire pit, picnic table, and outdoor seating. Unplug and unwind with a library of books, boardgames, and cribbage (Aroostook County favorite). Bring the whole family - friendly, well-behaved dogs welcome - and don't forget the kids' bikes. Children and off-leash dogs roam freely on this safe and private dead-end dirt road.

Plenty of parking to trailer your ATV, side-by-side, or boat. Canoes, kayaks and paddle boards can easily be launched and stored lakefront at the lake house and guest cabin. Mattawamkeag Lake, Pleasant Pond, and Va Jo Wa golf course are less than 25 minutes away in historic Island Falls. There is no WiFi (or TV) at the lake house and cell reception is limited.

Feel free to spread out into the guest cabin yard and gather dead wood and fallen branches for firewood across the road (part of the lake house property). Skitacook Lake hosts resident loons, wild rabbits, turtles, and the occasional moose. There are only a couple dozen camps on this secluded lake, truly a hidden gem.

About the host

Hosted by Michelle Hersey

Host profile image
We are a family of five from Aroostook County who love the great outdoors - camping, boating, fishing, hunting, hiking, skiing, and snowmobiling. We are the fourth and fifth generation at this family lot on Skitacook Lake.

Why they chose this property

Skitacook Lake is the perfect place to relax, unwind, and reconnect with nature. It's the best of both worlds - camping with all the comforts of home. Turn off the phones, grab a book or a fishing pole, and enjoy the best that summer in northern Maine has to offer.

What makes this property unique

The original single-room camp and outhouse were torn down and completely rebuilt in 2018 by a expert craftsman as a modern, off-grid lake house with a drilled well, holding tank, and pad-mounted generator.
