Excellent communication up to our arrival and throughout our stay. Unique, creative, comfortable accommodations, beautiful island. Truly a place to relax and unwind, although there is enough to keep yourself busy for a few days: trail walking, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, swimming, relaxing on the beach....the perfect end to our week-long vacation. Would love to return someday!

Heaven on earth

What an absolute pleasure it was staying in the floating home on the island. It was everything we wanted it to be. We will make this an annual trip.

I absolutely loved my stay on the island. I stayed in the little floating house, which was magical. I loved feeling the water underneath the bed as I napped and drifted to sleep. The sunset from the little porch, overlooking the water, was exquisite. The hammock game was strong! There were two at my site alone! Everything was clean and easy. Kent was a wonderful host, and I really enjoyed talking to him and learning more about the sustainability project itself! The team was responsive and so communicative — I felt fully prepared for the trip even before I arrived! I can't wait to come again!

Sarah, thank you! We love that you found a little magic aboard the Nautilus Waterhouse. There’s something wonderfully strange about falling asleep with the lake gently moving beneath your bed and waking up to realize that, yes, your bedroom really is floating. The Nautilus is our take on a Maine houseboat stay: part tiny floating house, part front-row seat for sunsets, and apparently equipped with a fairly serious hammock department. We’re especially glad you enjoyed learning about the sustainability project behind 1 Big Sustainable Island. The unusual places to sleep may get people onto the island, but sharing this ongoing experiment in sustainable island life is a big part of why we’re here. Thanks for exploring it with us, Sarah. We’ll be delighted to have you back for another night on the water!

Perfect honeymoon

My husband and I decided to honeymoon to this lovely get-away in Maine and it did NOT disappoint!! We stayed in the new Nautilus Floating House and it was a dream to wake up to breathtaking views from our bed every morning. Hiking, swimming, and canoeing filled our day with fun. Kent and Heather were amazing hosts that made sure our stay was top notch. If you’re looking for a peaceful, beautiful, vacation, you’ve found it!!

1BSI is a slice of paradise

1BSI is by far one of our favorite places to stay in the world. Beautiful, calm, disconnected, and convenient. Kent covers all the basics and makes the entire process extremely easy. Just pack your essentials and a good attitude! This is our second visit, but it definitely won’t be our last!

Incredible! Made for one very special honeymoon

My wife and I spent some time here during our honeymoon and it surely made it a trip to remember. Everything about this experience was unique in its own regard and we left with plenty of awesome stories to tell. From the ferry to the furry welcoming committee, other kind guests we met staying on the island to the awesome and extremely helpful hosts, this was an incredible experience we recommend to anyone who enjoys the outdoors. Heck, we almost didn't want to write this review because we kind of wish it was our own little secret. Thank you for your hospitality Kent and Heather 😊

The most relaxing and romantic weekend with my husband, thank you!!

The Nautilus provided my husband and I the exact relaxing weekend I needed - away from the noise of our town, our kids, our dogs, and everything in between. It was just me and him loving the lake life and all the beautiful surroundings it had to offer. Our hosts offered such a wonderful experience, I recommend this to anyone and everyone looking to get away for a few days and enjoy getting back to your nature roots. 10/10!!! Thank you so much Kent & company for such a unique and beautiful experience.

Sweet, Simple, Summer Bliss

We had the most amazing time staying at the Nautilus. Kent was a generous, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic host who made sure that we had everything we needed for a successful getaway. We were even able to check-in early and enjoy the Nautilus for a few bonus hours. We are so grateful! This summer has been a fast-paced and hectic one, and this trip offered us the opportunity to slow down, look around, and be totally present against the most beautiful natural backdrop. We swam, canoed, grilled, played lots of cards, and had the most special time. We will be back, most definitely!
