Very clean and cute home. The kitchen is adorable. Neighborhood is quiet, which was nice! Conveniently close to Colonial Beach, state parks, and historical sites. We had a great stay!
We really enjoyed our stay. Everything was clean and comfy. We had everything we needed and our son kept saying the house was awesome. Would definitely recommend

Cozy, clean and beautifully decorated home in quiet neighborhood close to historical sites, state parks and fishing. Safe, friendly area and neighbors. Kids and adults enjoyed making lifelong memories here. 100/10 highly recommend! Also, handicap accessible and great phone & internet service.
First of all, this home was Impeccably clean! With 3 adults and 4 teens, we had plenty of space. Everyone was comfortable and happy. Could not recommend this place more.
For our 1st Family vacation we decided Colonial Beach, because that is where I would take my girls when they were little.
Finding Collette's home was destiny! She is an amazing host. She answered every question asked quickly. Her home is absolutely beautiful and very comfortable! We will stay here again on our next visit to Colonial Beach.

What kind words, Carol! Thank you so much for being wonderful guests and choosing our home to make special memories! We'd love to have you back any time!
Great place for a family or family with grandparents to stay. The bunk beds offered plenty of space for sleeping and bathrooms big enough for easily sharing. The well stocked kitchen offered lots of options for cooking in but there were plenty of options for eating out only a short drive away. Checking in/out were very easy and Collette was a great help with any and all questions regarding her house or the area. Already planning a trip back to stay with Collette again!
We had a wonderful stay at Collette’s place in Colonial Beach. The house is clean and updated and provided ample space for our group of 3 adults, 2 kids, and 2 dogs. It’s a short drive to the local beaches and “downtown” area, which allowed us extra time for grilling and spending time on the back porch. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed for dinner prep. Thank you Collette for a wonderful stay!
We loved our stay in Colonial Beach! It was great that we were able to invite our grandmother who needs use of a walker. She was able to move around easily and was thankful for the walk-in shower. We had 6 people in total ranging from 5 to 85 in age. Everyone had a wonderful trip and a ton of positive comments about the home. There was plenty of space throughout the house for meals, family games, and recharging. Collette was quick to respond and attentive to any concerns we had at any point of our trip. The best reviews came from my son and grandfather who both wished we were staying longer and hope to go back again soon.
We are so excited you are choosing to stay in our little home-away-from-home. We are a large, outdoor-loving, nature-enthused, sunshine-seeking family of 8. Collette was born and raised in Virginia not far from Colonial Beach. She spent many weekends canoeing and camping along the Rappahannock River and many other tributaries off the Chesapeake Bay. Summers always included fireworks, crab feasts, and sandy fun at Colonial Beach. Jamie was born and raised in South Carolina and coastal adventures were the highlight of his youth. We are proudly sharing this love of the water and the beauty of the East Coast with our children and now we are honored to share it with you. We are thrilled to be able to offer our little hideaway near the water to you and your crew and hope you discover the peace and contentment of the natural world nearby.
Why they chose this property
Placid Bay Estates is adjacent to Mattox Creek and Placid Lake. This tributary of the Potomac River is near the colonial stagecoach stop of Oak Grove. It lies between, and minutes from, the birthplaces of George Washington and James Monroe. Being situated in an area rich in American history and American heritage has led to the Potomac River being nicknamed "the Nation's River." Today Mattox Creek is a beautiful wildlife and recreation area used for boating, skiing, fishing and swimming. Bald eagles, ospreys, herons, beavers, foxes, deer and migrating waterfowl are abundant in the area. The area has been protected and improved by the Chesapeake Bay Act, which has made wetland protection and environmental issues a priority in the entire Chesapeake Bay watershed.
What makes this property unique
Grey Heron Hideaway was named for the distinctive plumage of the Great Blue Heron, the iconic wading bird native to the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The house was built in 1964 and fully refurbished in 2022.
