The Bester family has been grain and sheep farmers for more than 8 generations in the Swartland Region, Western Cape in South Africa. When the safety on farms in the area got really bad, Dirk and his dad, Dirk-senior decided it was time to sell the family farm Glen Peter and look for opportunities elsewhere. They looked at many countries, but it was the land down under where they could see themselves move to, the first time in 300 years that the Bester family would move.

Dirk’s mother, which is of German heritage, grew up in the Stellenbosch Winelands in South Africa, where the Heins family still farms grapes today on vineyard De Clapmuts. Stellenbosch is also where Dirk’s love affair with wine began and where he met Nika right after his studies.

After Dirk convinced his dad that they had to invest into the beautiful winery in the hills of Everton Upper in Beechworth Wine Region, he and Nika moved over in August 2019 and took over the vineyard in September 2019. The day after handover, Nika chased Dirk out of bed to start renovations. With Nika’s passion for business and ambition to start building their dream, they soon opened the doors to Glenbosch Wine Estate.

Glenbosch the name is a combination between the family farm (Glen Peter) and Stellenbosch, but it is also a good description of the property, as a Glen is a Valley with running water, and Bosch (meaning Bush) as 1/3 of the property is beautiful native Australian bushland. Also, the wine drinkers in our accountants office that day thought the name would be fitting for a winery they would want to visit.

Why they chose this property

Stay at the farm and have a wonderful time in good company.

Modern & Light Filled

Created to be bright and airy, good for wellbeing and mood. Our luxurious eco-cottages have been designed with summer and winter in mind. When its hot outside you and want a little coolness, just close the blinds, and turn on the air conditioning to watch a movie together. In winter, put some wood in the fireplace and open a book with a glass of red wine! It’s a different relaxing experience in every season.

Quality Night’s Rest

We are always so happy to get an email from a past guest asking where we bought our mattress and linen because they had the best night sleep in years. Our cottages are equipped with high quality bedding and towels that is professionally dry cleaned. We guarantee you optimal conditions for a good night’s sleep. Unless the local Kookaburra’s decide differently of course.

Relaxing in the tub

Cottage 3 and Cottage 4 are equipped with outdoor hot tubs running on wood fire. This means that you have to go into the forest armed with your axe to cut your wood… All the while escaping the wolves! Of course NOT, we did it for you. All you have to do is light the tub, wait 1 to 2 hours, and relax over a glass of wine and a beautiful High Country the sunset.

360° views

With nature as far as you can see and Roo’s jumping past, you will feel right at country home. Make sure to bring our camera if you are a keen bird photographer, there are many rare species around. Our very cute Alpacas will also be your neighbours during your farm stay, but we advise you to study Alpagan, because they don’t speak English.
