I have lived in Sellwood for over 20 years and, in our opinion, it's by far the best place to be in Portland... welcome! If you are coming for work, to visit with family, or simply want to explore and relax, you are sure to find comfort during your stay!
The Space The private studio is very quiet, offering a cozy space you will quickly settle into. It has been built to match the style of the bungalow home built in 1915. While it doesn't have a kitchen, everything is new... refrigerator, toaster, coffee pour over, and hot water pitcher. All the furnishings, linens, and Smart TV... all are new. Very clean and comfortable, naturally cool in the summer (fantastic insulation), warm in the winter... this space is settled in the magical town of Sellwood. Many have shared that this is the best VRBO they have stayed in. We are grateful for the overwhelmingly positive response.
Guest access We have a seasonal garden, a terraced, outside space in which you can listen to the soft sounds of a water feature. Other things to note Netflix is available!

We realize Oregon is a cannabis friendly state, however our property is not. It has been with a great deal of thought that we have come to this decision. Please refrain from smoking or vaping of any kind, anywhere on the premises. Thank you!

This was a great place to stay for a short time. The room was clean and comfortable and thoughtfully designed.Scot was very responsive and helpful in his communication And, the neighborhood is very nice… could see myself living there.
Hosts were welcoming and communicated well all the details for our stay. The unit was well insulated and had good heating for the cold weather.

The room was very clean and the setting was private. The host suggested places to see and dine. I especially liked the tastefully decorated room and nice sheets.
Excellent stay! Very clean, great instructions and very communicative host. I really appreciated the clean sheets with lack of strong detergent smell. Would absolutely stay again!

Hosts attentive and accommodating. Location within walking distance of a fantastic bakery, a ramen restaurant, a bottle shop, coffee shop, a park with walking trails and a bike path along the Willamette River. The cottage is comfortable, quiet, private. Hope to return to this special place.
Cute little studio space. We really just needed a place to sleep while we were in town for a wedding and this was perfect. Owners were very accommodating. Wish we could have stayed longer!
I had a great experience in this cozy apartment. Scot went the extra mile for me when I had a family emergency; making it possible for me to extend my stay unexpectedly. I am thoroughly familiar with Portland, OR and always prefer to stay in walkable locations like Sellwood. It is my favorite part of town for its easy access to food, boutiques, and nature. This apartment is just a few minutes on foot to all of these things. I highly recommend staying here if you have the opportunity.
The property was in a great neighborhood. Near shops and restaurants. The host was very available to answering questions and telling us abt the location. We were visiting family so we did not stay at our room most of the time. There was not a sink in the area Of the microwave and refrigerator but the bathroom sink worked fine for us since we weren't fixing meals there. A pleasant experience.

Good morning,
Thank you for staying with us you were so pleasant. I'm wondering if the four-star review is a result of having no kitchen sink? If so that's really unfortunate because in our posting we clearly state that we do not have a kitchen sink and we asked in our message to you before your arrival that you absolutely do not use the sink in the bathroom to wash your dishes. We have provided a dirty dish tray and we do the dishes for you when needed. Trish and I are on site to help you in whatever way that you need and at the same time provide a very private space where you are uninterrupted with your stay. Over 350 5-Star reviews on another platform have shared in our journal and online how much they appreciate the space and what we do for them at such a reasonable nightly cost. If we put in a kitchen sink in the future, that will increase the cost to stay for something over 90% of our guests have said they don't need and would not use.
You were so nice, and we really appreciated meeting you. In the future I would definitely encourage you to read the posting and also read our message that we send before your arrival.
Sincerely,
Scot and Trish
Everything here was quality….and so comfy! The space was all we needed for our short stay. No cooking ..just a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast.loved sitting at the little table in the sun!
It is charming and so close to the Sellwood bridge and cute community businesses. Scot communicates clearly.

About the host
Hosted by Scot Wavra
Teacher, father, partner, traveler, life-long learner, and more... life is what you make it and this involves who you surround yourself with daily, monthly, yearly. Connections with people are so important and I am lucky to have a huge network of friends and acquaintances. Sellwood, along with all of the countries I have traveled, have brought people into my life, many of whom I hope to stay in touch with for quite some time. Currently, I'm working on bringing an outdoor, educational experience to children.
Why they chose this property
If you are not familiar with the charm and uniqueness of Sellwood, take some time to explore this place, and all that it has to offer. The studio is in a peaceful, quiet neighborhood in the heart of Sellwood.
To the north, only four houses away, is the infamous Sellwood Park. Walk two more blocks and you are treated with one of the best views in Portland, overlooking a 140-acre Wetland with our city skyline off in the near distance. And, the fully operating, 1910 Oaks Amusement Park and Skating Rink are within a 10 minute walk settled along the Willamette River.
The amazing Sellwood Park is a walk away; If you have time for a walk, this is a must!!! At the northend, you will find a trailhead that leads down and around the 140 acre wetland of Oaks Bottom. It's a beautiful mixture of forested trails, water, and wild life! Either walk out and back or make it a loop. Depending on your direction, you may walk past our old historic Oaks Chapel, the oldest, one-story church in Oregon. View the Willamette River, 100-year-Oaks Skating Rink and Amusement Park, and the city skyline along the way!
Only two blocks to the west from the studio is another park known as Oaks Bottom. The Willamette River and Spring Water Bike/Running/Walking Trail meanders along its border all the way into downtown Portland, 3 and 1/2 miles to the north, and beyond. Head east in the opposite direction, and the bike trail continues for over 40 miles... all this is accessible by foot or bike from our studio.
What makes this property unique
Mixed in with the variety of old homes, many dating back before the 19th century, Sellwood has numerous places to visit. Many family-owned coffee shops (my favorite being the Blue Kangaroo), antique shops, several bakeries (check out Grand Central Bakery), food carts, and dozens of restaurants (Jade is one of the BEST!) are just around the corner. If you were feeling up to it, you can walk to our one-screen movie theater, built with lots of character, for a decent movie price!
These along with dozens of other options are all within a very short walking distance! And, of course, the New Season’s grocery store is only 3 blocks away!
By bike, along the Spring Water path, it's only a 15-minute ride into downtown Portland and the OHSU Waterfront. Those who work in Portland never have to get in their car if desired! Reed College, Lewis and Clark College, and Portland State University are also only a 20-minute bike ride away.
Whether you want to take a yoga class, get a foot massage, take a jet boat excursion on the Willamette, or eat at over 30 different restaurants only blocks away... Sellwood is the place to be. Add this to the vibrancy of our city and the list of things to do... it's endless! You can’t beat Sellwood for the number of things you can do… without a car. Matched with the incredible charm of this place, you will for sure want to come back.
