I never received a response on having to leave early sure to weather which I know no one can predict, would've at least liked an answer on a bit of a discount. but it's in we made it anyway
Lily was a great host. Very relaxing, peaceful stay. Everyone we encountered was very nice and helpful. If you are looking for a relaxing place in the country where you can go for walks and pet horses, this is the place you want to stay at.
We had an amazing experience--what a fantastic place to stay! The ranch is beautiful, and we had an outdoor patio where we could sit and enjoy the evenings. There's a little kitchen, and we picked up food at the supermarket. We booked a horse experience and a trail ride, and those experiences were incredibly special. Lilly gave us advice on going to King's Canyon in addition to Sequoia--initially, we were hesitant because of the drive, but are so glad that we went. She also advised us to go out to Monet's in Exeter for a special French meal--what an excellent meal!

This is a gorgeous place to stay. The pool was amazing and the environment was beautiful. I failed to realize the kitchen was outside when I booked and doesn’t have a sink outside which makes cooking a bit challenging. I also didn’t know the AC was run by the main house and would be turned off at night (second night we were told to open the windows to help cool the place down). We enjoyed hanging with the outdoor cats and dogs who were super friendly and could see the horses in the pen in the front. Both porches were beautiful and being able to turn the living room into a second bedroom was a major plus. The owner seemed distant and at times a bit abrupt but it could have been because one of her horses was sick at the time of our stay.

Thank you for your review and for staying at the ranch. Because this is a home and not hotel rooms the thermostat is in the hallway of the main house. In cool evenings we use our dual cooling system that switches to evaporative cooling. This system requires air to move from rooms to the outside to achieve cooling which is why the guests are requested to open a window slightly. It saves energy and cools as well as A.C. system on cool nights. We apologize this was not communicated as well as it should have been. And yes, we had a mare suffering a severe colic episode and were dealing with Veterinarian.
Wonderful place and amazing experience! They go above and beyond to make your stay feel like you’re genuinely home! Great people with a gorgeous property!!
Lilly and Jon were very warm and welcoming. Great communication. Very clean and comfortable space. Highly recommend the guided horse ride and a soak in the jacuzzi after.

We loved our stay here!A beautiful setting…so peaceful and quietLily was great host…very helpful and easy talk to!The pool area was absolutely beautiful. An unexpected experience was the evening horseback riding with Molly and Salty! The scenery was spectacular!
Our stay on this expansive ranch was a truly great vacation filled with very special, one-of-a-kind experiences. The warm hospitality of Lilly, Jon, and Xander made our time here truly memorable and unique. We absolutely loved the activities, especially the scenic horse riding and the adventurous pickup truck ride through the mountains. Kids were in heaven, spending their entire days outdoors—zipping around on golf carts, interacting with the horses, and freely exploring the ranch. This is definitely a must-visit place for an authentic, unforgettable getaway!
We had a wonderful time horseback riding with Jon and Lily at their beautiful ranch in California. The couple who hosted us were incredibly kind and welcoming, making the experience even more special.
I enjoyed Lilly (host) and all the green of this ranch. The king-size bed was very comfortable, and everyone, even the horses, were sweet.

The unit was advertised as having air conditioning, however the thermostat is in a different area of the house not accessible to guests and the unit was over 80. We were accosted by their aggressive dogs every time we went outside and they continued to bark at us and our service dogs through the sliding glass door. We tried to address the temperature issue with the host but the unit remained hot and they completely turned off all AC about 12 hours before we were to leave. The host then requested payment for allowing our service dogs to stay, which is completely illegal. We have videos of their dogs aggressively barking and posturing at us while we were unloading our car to return to the unit after our work day was over. We are veterinary professionals and deal with ranch animals daily, however our clients dogs are never allowed to behave the way their dogs did. I would say if you don’t mind aggressive dogs or an uncomfortably hot stay this might be ok. Unfortunately we were left terribly disappointed and cannot in good conscience recommend this place.

Our House rules require all animals brought onto ranch to be declared before arrival, for the safety of our livestock, poultry and pets. These guests did not. They left dogs in car until dark then sneaked them into condo. These dogs were not house broken, as trained dogs are. They urinated on very expensive linens and flooring and walls. We incurred $600 in cleaning costs and bedding replacement costs. Guests left door open to air out in 90 Deg. July heat. We keep thermostat set at 72 deg. Our dogs and cats and horses are mentioned in almost all reviews for their friendliness and affectionate behavior. They have never been aggressive. Our dogs accompany many guests on ranch hikes and on horseback rides. We have put these guests on our do not rent to list.
The owners are onsite & were very helpful & super friendly. The property is out in the country, nice & quiet. A beautiful setting. Close to Sequoia & Kings Canyon. I had a great stay there. Loved the animals.

Dear Jennie
We miss you too. Please come back and we will have more conversations.
Blessings to you.
Hello, this is Jon, I visited the Sequoias backpacking to the many lakes in 1968. I have gone every year since. Started ranching Black Angus cattle in 1972 and farmed and grew nursery stock in the great central valley until 2004. I continue to raise cattle and Quarter Horses and provide our BnB guest with ranch horseback rides and tours of the many Chumash Indian relics and Dumtah winter camp and village site on our foothill ranch. Among the Valley Oak woodlands and spring feed streams our guest enjoy learning about the unique fauna and flora of our area. Come visit and ride along! Hello this is Lilly, I am a native of this in rural part of the Great Central Valley of California. The charming small town of Exeter and the surrounding ranches owned by my family, was where I learned to be a cowgirl and appreciate the incredible beauty of this part of California. I spent summers in the “high country “ of Sequoia National Park, going on horse trips with my father, who was a professional guide. After an exciting career in Las Vegas as a professional dancer and Ballet, yoga and Pilates teacher at UNLV, I came home and decided to share my very special ranch with guests who want to experience another part of California.
Why they chose this property
This area of the foothills in the central California Valley at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains are a unique biosphere Jon chose this property and developed it in the 1980s. Prior to that time it was open range land. Jon maintained quite a few thousands of acres as grazing land and wildlife refuge. The history of this area and the beauty and convenient semi rura location are what attracted us to Mehrten Valley.
What makes this property unique
Our ranch house, opens up to the thousand acres of grazing land for our Angus cows. There are native oak woodland forests and springs and ponds, where the Chumash tribe, had their winter camps and the first Europeans from the American Midwest , began farming this region of California. Most visitors and even California residents never have an opportunity to see this part of California because it is all private fenced land. Our guests can hike or ride our horses to a part of California few get to experience. Our guests have a perfect location exactly in between Sequoia National Park and the vibrant county seat of Visalia, which is full of shopping , entertainment and some of the finest restaurants in California and the charming village of Exeter and Three Rivers which are known for their local artists and antique stores. Staying at any of the facilities on our ranch, and having access to the scenery and ranch life experience , is something you will not find anywhere else.
