Waterfront Modernized Rustic Log Cabin on Indian Lake, Manistique, MI
The perfect nearly 100-year-old waterfront log cabin, Baapi Makwa Cabin#2 in Sunset View Resort, a small five-cabin rental community on two acres. This is a classic old time up north experience. Read all information before booking.
Things that are specific to the cabin: We attempt to be as sustainable as possible. In effort to keep originality, we are not your typical experience. We patronize local shops, stores and small businesses for all needs from furniture to sheets and towels that vary in color. We also do not use pesticides or herbicides on the property or in the cabin. You will see how the lakeshore ecosystem uses the cabin exterior and property to thrive ex: mayflies May/June, dragonflies May/June, black flies June/July, lightning bugs June-Aug etc. These allow the feathered, gilled and furred animals to thrive! This ecosystem has been known to cause a musty scent even a few hours after cleaning depending on the humidity level in the century old logs, which easily discipated with a few windows opened. Please understand we do not remove/destroy insect habitat on the property or exterior of the cabin. The interior is to be kept clean of insects though! Cabin water is from a flowing artesian well and is the cleanest, tastiest water! We attempt to be as sustainable as possible.
Rustic in look with modern amenities, i.e. WiFi, on-demand hot water, and streaming 50-inch T.V., adult/teen/child books, and games are available. Spend the day fishing, swimming, or relaxing and the evening star gazing, bon fire or fire in the original hand built stone fireplace. A 12-foot aluminum fishing boat with oars and life jackets is on site.
Two designated parking spots are directly in front of the cabin. Trailers, haulers, etc may be unloaded at the cabin and then moved to parking near the entrance. Watercrafts are to be brought in every evening due to rapidly changing weather on a large lake. All grounds and fire pit are for community use. The gas grill is located on the cement pad. Bring your own beach towels(bath towels provided)and fishing poles if needed! No pets. No AC. Cabin is 620 sq ft. Sleeps 8. 1 Queen (Main Brm), 1 full sofa bed (Living Rm), 4 twins (2nd Brm and sunroom). Guests may bring a boat only under 20 ft length due to lake depth/dock placement. Cabin is cleaned by local professional company after each stay. Property lines are clearly marked and are to be adhered to.. Please understand the uniqueness of staying in a place like ours!

Loved it! Host was awesome and property was perfect. We felt very taken care of and had everything we needed. We will miss waking up to the crispt air with beautiful views, many fires, and breathtaking sunsets. Thank you for the great hospitality, we will be back soon:)
Cutest little cabin! Lots of fun games to keep the kids entertained and fast wifi! Lots of outdoor toys as well! Beautiful view! Lovely town! Overall great experience!
Nice location. Enjoyed the deck, hammock, firepit and being on the lake. Took the boat on the lake and fished. Cabin is small and cozy. Beds are comfortable. Has everything needed - dishes, coffee pot, towels, etc. Outside has mayflies and needed to be washed. Kristin was very responsive with texts and was nice.
The property was amazing. Very clean, well equipped, perfect location. On site staff was excellent, and communication with the owners was quick and precise.

It was an absolute pleasure having you stay with us! We look forward to your future visits!
We really enjoyed having fires in the fireplace in the evenings. It is definitely a rustic cabin but very idyllic and has a certain charm about it.The view is beautiful!
We had a great time in this rustic cabin! We had a bit of a bug problem with a resent hatch of bugs but we managed. The kids enjoyed the lake, tv and toys! We all slept pretty comfortably. The only suggestion i have, is to bring towels and washclothes. The towels there are old beach towels and there were only 2 washclothes. We made it work but it would have been nice. We loved having the ability to cook and the grociery store was close by! Overall we were very happy with our experiance!

Hello! Sorry about the false lightning bugs. That was a first in all the units for about a week. The great outdoors is an interesting thing! More/different towels were available for you! We appreciate you staying with us!
Our family really enjoyed our trip to the U.P. This cabin is right on the water and the kids loved it! They enjoyed the beach area there and kayak’s they provided between the weather that wouldn’t cooperate to go fish. The mosquitoes and the may flies are bad this time of year. But over all would recommend this place!
Lovely, cozy cabin in the UP. Kitchen has everything you'll need for your stay. Great location and easy drives to state parks in the area and day trips all over the UP. BEAUTIFUL sunsets on the lake and close to Lake Michigan for some fun in the waves! All neighbors were very nice. Good fishing on the lake. Would stay here again. Thanks for letting us use your cabin!

Great location but needs better cleaning
The cabin’s location is perfect—right next to the beach, which was amazing. However, I’m giving it 3 stars because it was dirty upon arrival. As soon as we walked in, there was a musty, slightly funky smell. We also found a lot of dead flies on the floors and windows. I understand it was mosquito season, but if the cabin had been properly cleaned before our stay, there wouldn’t have been so many dead insects. The price was great for the location, but if you rent this cabin, just be aware that cleanliness is an issue.

We're sorry to hear about the insects. There was an influx of false lightning bugs that week. Within a few hours of cleaning they would appear again in all the units. The cabin was professionally cleaned as always. It's nearly a century year old cabin. We do everything we can but can't control insects, the age of the logs and what being on a lakeshore does to them if there was a scent. Thanks for staying.
The view from the property is gorgeous. The cabin had about everything a tenant would need. The location is convenient. I would caution anyone with physical limitations, this cabin is challenging, especially the very low toilet seat.

Kristen is such a class act. Thank you for an amazing stay.
Definitely rustic….but everything you need is there. The views are fantastic. Very quiet. Stars at night were amazing!
Did a great campfire and watched the sunsets.
Swam with our dog many nights. Sandy shallow bottom….we were able to tire her out.
Close to town and parks.
We are planning on going back!
Easy check in. Property exactly as described. I was surprised at the amount of 'extras' that were provided! However our timing & Michigan weather being what it is, we did not use any of the watercraft or the corn hole boards that were available. Sunsets are beautiful! And the water... I'm talking drinking water... ice cold & wonderful. We found out from a neighbor that it was from an artisian well!
This was a great place to unplug & relax! Will definitely be back!
The lake and the location on the lake couldn't have been more perfect! If you love breathtaking sunsets on a peaceful lake, watching families of ducks swimming around, then this is your place. If you want 4 star fancy then move on. This cabin is very rustic and cozy but really that was just for sleeping. The outdoor spaces are were it is at. I am from Minnesota and I have never seen a lake so peaceful in my entire life. There was some boat and jet ski activity, but nothing noisy or obnoxious. The only issue we ran into was there were no outlets in the bedrooms, so we had to run an extension cord from the living room to the bedroom for our fan and my CPAP machine. The grounds around the cabin are shared with multiple other cabins (like a resort) but everyone was really nice and respectful. Honestly I would definitely recommend this place if you are over the hard party and uncomfortable camping life. Michael was very easy to work with and answered all my questions right away.
