This was a great jumping-off point for my wife and me to explore the Moosehead lake area. We enjoyed our stay, thoroughly, and would have loved to have had more time in the area. We didn't spend too much time at the cottage itself, but it was a good home base, and had all the fixings to be a pleasant place to relax in.
We rented the cabin for a week at the end of September. The cottage was a perfect place to explore the region, nearby State Parks like Peaks-Kenny or Lily Bay. The Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument is also reachable. The cottage had everything we needed. The view to the river was gorgeous. Although the nights tended to be chilly, the radiator was able to quickly provide a comfy temperature in the evening. Communication with the host was fast and uncomplicated. If we ever come back from Germany to Maine, we would love to return.
My partner and I rented the cabin for a week in early September, but due to extremely rainy weather conditions, we ended up leaving early. The location of the cabin was fantastic and the river was warm. It would have been the perfect place for tubing/river kayaking if it wasn't raining. The cabin was clean and decorated with the perfect mix of cozy without any clutter. We are planning to visit again next summer in the hopes of enjoying sunnier weather. Also worth noting, the hosts are fantastic and responsive!
The driveway to the property is passable by car but a higher clearance vehicle would be better. There are other cottages nearby but we didn’t see anyone. The interior is cozy and the 2 propane wall heaters kept it comfortable when the temperature dropped to the 40s. Unique live edge slab table. WiFi was tolerable. The shower is a small square type( don’t try to run the shower, washer, or sink at the same time.) Overall a very pleasant experience.
We stayed in the winter so a little snow and temps below freezing. The heaters did an great job of keeping the cabin at 70. 1 suggestion would be to add an electric heater for the small bedroom, similar to the 1 in the larger bedroom.
The loft area has a tv, so even with 4 people in the cabin it didn’t feel crowded at all. The bar is perfect to sip coffee and look watch the bumbling creek (mini river).
We had a small issue with the well pump the day before thanksgiving. The owners were prompt and had a new pump installed that day.
The area has lots of outdoor attractions if you like hiking. Overall it was a great place to call home base for our week in Maine.
No dishwasher - recommend bringing chinet plates that can be tossed in the fire pit, saves on hand scrubbing.
The clothes washer/dryer was great for an extended stay.
