As you walk through the front door of the Design Masterpiece, and enter the open framed cast iron elevator, which climbs through four stories of circular stone staircase, your senses are brought to full attention to bear witness to every exquisite detail. Two antique arched wooden doors frame your entrance to a Master suite with no equal. Floor to ceiling glass walls accentuate the grand scale of this suite giving way to jetliner views from the master bed. Draped with tapestries, fabric and hand made rugs, there has never been a more seamless mix of luxury and comfort. Antique folding wooden doors encase floor to ceiling windows on the fourth floor, which open up to both a beautiful all tile pool and spa, as well as an endless view from the city to the water.


House Description Continued : 18' cathedral ceilings soaring overhead, and distressed copper kitchen cabinets, accompany the antique stove, both crystal and cast iron chandeliers, and a hand made espresso machine that more closely resembles a sculpture than it does a kitchen appliance. With this turnkey, hailed as 'the best house in LA', you are renting not just a home, but a lifestyle. The owner is a lifetime member of the prestigious members only Magic Castle which is located right down the hill. Passes can be included with rental upon request. Four to five bedrooms depending on preference (Two mini suites can section off (with a soft curtain) into two separate bedrooms each) Additional short term housing, entertaining, and meeting accommodations for friends, family, and employees available in adjacent properties.

The Unique Benefits at this House: This house is a deal closer. If you are looking to wow your future partner, meet the women of your dreams, or fall in love again with the one that you have...and you can't get it done here, then you are not going to be able to get it done. People come to stay the weekend...and leave a year later...and the only complaint was that they had to leave too soon.


The Modern Villas Hollywood have been home to many wonderful artist such as Stevie Wonder, John Travolta, Danny DeVito, Jesse James, Kat Von D, Eddie Van Halen, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Tom Ford, Annie Liebovitz, Carrie Elwes, Mark Canton(creator of the movie 300) Ryan Cavanaugh, Stanley Tucci, just to name a few of the wonderful artist.

Hollywood Bowl is close to our property, but the entrance to the Hollywood Bowl is on the other side of the hill, so you would need to get down the hill and enter on the other side. It's only a short 5-minute drive or a 25-minute walk, but since our property is in the hills, coming back, you would have to walk uphill.

About the Owner: Owner is in the entertainment industry in addition to being a passionate and experimental builder. He is famous for his architectural innovations, attention to detail, and the fit and finish of his properties. He wants the house to be enjoyed, and loves sharing his deep knowledge of the local restaurant, nightlife, cultural and music scenes with guests. He sees his design work as creation of experiential art designed to facilitate a stress free and sensually fulfilling lifestyle filled with aesthetic stimulation and the simple pleasures of spending time with friends and family.

If you are looking for an experience like no other in the Hollywood Hills this home delivers. The whole family was amazed by the views from every floor. The pool was a wonderful touch, we spent hours enjoying the views and the privacy of the entire property. Absolutely Amazing

We came to Hollywood to celebrate the 90th birthday of Willie Nelson at the Hollywood Bowl. Our stay at the property was icing on the cake! We spent hours exploring the home. It felt like old Hollywood meets a trip around the world. The multiple floors were perfect to give us each space. The view from the top floor overlooking LA was unbelievable. Walking out the 4th floor into the beautiful lush pool area was a perfect start and end to each day! The location was ideal! It felt like being in the middle of all of the buzz, yet tucked away in the quiet Hollywood Hills. We will 100% be back for another stay! Bruno’s communication was perfect. This truly is a gem. I am grateful the owner has opened his doors to share this stunning, one of a kind home with others!

Very unique experience!

If you’re looking for dramatic impact, this is a place for you. Very true to the pictures, this place has absolutely amazing views of LA, including the downtown skyline. The furnishings are incredibly unique, with unusual antiques, very evocative of an old Hollywood feel. Located high in the Hollywood Hills, if you are not used to driving there, it will be an eye opener. Very hilly, winding and at points narrow roads. You better pay attention for other vehicles. Not the easiest in and out but that is a part of the experience here. Elevator is really cool. Good for getting luggage up and down or for 2 or 3 people at a time. Master suite is huge. Bed was very comfortable and views are spectacular . Other bedrooms all big too with unique elevated bed areas and en suite baths that our teen girls loved. Outdoor pool and spa area is a lush retreat and pool and spa water can be warmed up as needed, although spa jets not working. Location is ideal for visiting Hollywood Blvd, Sunset Strip and Universal Studios. My advice, if you plan to cook meals at home, order groceries in advance. Getting to, in and out, and home from Whole Foods will take some time and effort if you’re not used to driving in LA. We did order in from Fatburger using Postmates one evening. Our order took longer than originally estimated and they did get our order wrong, not sure if that is typical or not. House is generally clean but is older and shows wear and tear of its age. Don’t expect pristine, Four Seasons level conditions. The drama is the draw and for that this place delivers!

Stunning home, fun stay

Thank you, James and Bruno! We had a very nice stay at this home. The property has four beautiful levels, with amazing décor and an incredible view. Lots of fun items to admire inside. Communication with the property manager Bruno was easy and fast (he is very helpful), and we didn’t have any major problems. The house has nice extras like a toaster, portable fans, towels, and shampoo/soap. We didn’t use the hot tub, but we did use the pool, and it was wonderful. Although I do recommend this space and would stay again, here are some things I wish we had known: - We couldn’t get the ovens to work. There are three, and we couldn’t use any of them. Someone came over to look at them after I inquired, but they still never ended up working. This isn’t a huge problem; we just wish we had known because we bought food to make before realizing. We were planning on making food there during our stay, and ended up having to eat out every meal. - The balcony doors were locked everywhere except the main bathroom. We were very excited to use the balcony (as was pictured in the listing), so we were disappointed to find locks. If you’re looking forward to open-door breezes like we were, this is important to note. I was told it’s an insurance issue which is understandable, however we were confused because the listing photos showed the doors wide open. - The elevator is incredible, but it is a bit temperamental. It stopped working three times, and we were being very careful with it. Again, the issue was very quickly resolved, but know that it may be finicky. - Good luck trying to turn off some of the lights. There are a lot (and they are beautiful), but we simply could not find a way to turn many of them off. - The home is stunning, but could use a good deep cleaning. Certain areas are very dusty/spiderwebby, and the microwave looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in a long time. My friend emptied her own trash can and found that the bag inside was incredibly old—as if it was emptied, but the bag wasn’t changed. We also found items from past guests underneath some chairs. I would say the house was tidy, but it could have been much cleaner. Overall, these small issues were just that—small. However, they are things I would want to know. The house is still worth booking…you may just want to be aware of these things. Recommended.

Truly unique stay with an incredible view

We stayed over a long weekend to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary with some of our closest friends. The decorations and artifacts all over this house were almost enough to keep us entertained, even without the warm pool and stellar view. Not only was the house perfectly our collective vibe, but we were also able to head down the hill and enjoy an incredible evening at the Magic Castle, which we had always wanted to be able to experience. Bruno was very helpful and we appreciated how communicative he was. The only improvements we might recommend: the check-in instructions are outdated with regard to the pool and the spa so we spent a lot of time looking for heat and bubble controls that were no longer there. Additionally, the spa was warm on the first night, but seemed to cool off the rest of the weekend, so we spent most of our time in the pool. We also had a really difficult time with some of the lighting in the house because the switches were far away or not labeled. We watched a movie in the living room on the top floor and couldn’t figure out how to turn off the chandelier to make it darker. Other than that, we absolutely recommend this special stay to anyone who likes really incredible views and something more than a boring hotel-like experience. There were still surprises we were finding on our way out.

Fun In The Sun, Thrills In The Hills

I’m so happy I came across this house and booked it for our staycation. Let me start with the house, wow what a unique and beautiful home, it was somehow both large, luxurious and yet cozy and comfortable at the same time. You can tell the owner put a lot of time and thought into designing this place with creative details around every corner. The forth floor views are breathtaking, the swimming pool was serine and felt like I was taking a dip in Morocco. The logistics were super simple as well, checking in and out was easy, everything was labeled and easy to use. Our host was AMAZING and available to help if we needed anything. We even lost a watch and James helped us retrieve it after we checked out. If it sounds like I’m advertising this house, it’s because I am! One of the best vacation homes I have stayed at and will definitely be back if possible!!

This home has great potential but it fell well below our expectations. There was only one door that we could prop open to get fresh air and that was on the top floor facing the back. No comfortable seating and it felt like the house had become a storage room for estate sale items. The bedrooms were awkward and hot except for one. Great views but no way to relax, sit and enjoy them. This property was over priced and more of a museum rather than a comfortable place to relax.

The views were amazing!

We spent most of our time here than anywhere else in LA although most of our outside attractions were within minutes away. The villa was absolutely spectacular filled with priceless artwork and exotic collectibles. As you walk in, you feel like you walked into a fairytale mansion and very comforting. I kicked off my shoes and could just relax without any noise from the outside. My family all said the same thing, first thing in the morning... beds and pillows were super comfortable. Hospitality was a big plus. Anything you needed, it was right at your fingertips. I would so go back.

Filthy Property and Harassing Owner

I was highly disappointed in this property. The day of my arrival I was informed that the home I originally rented (next door to this one) was no longer available. I am fairly easy going so no worries there. I just needed a quiet place for my business partner and I to meet and discuss business for a few days. When we arrived at the home it was filthy and smelled disgusting. Many of the counter tops had dead insects on them. The home looked as if it had not be thoroughly cleaned in months. Only 2 people, myself and my business partner stayed in the house. However, we had 6 members of our staff over to discuss business, eat and watch some presentations. The owner who kept walking in, ended up keeping my deposit because he said that more than 2 people could not be on the property!! I was originally informed that we could have a maximum of 2 vehicles on the street. Again, no problem here. I understand there isn't much room in these neighborhoods. I informed ALL of my 6 guest of this rule and they simply Uber'd over but for some reason, the owner would walk in and started saying that we needed to move cars. Thats right. He would just walk right in. We informed him SEVERAL times that the vehicles did not belong to us. Finally, we were accused of filming a music video. After all, a few 30 something African American and Puerto Rican professionals could only be rappers and are shooting their music video right? Fact is, my business partner who he met but didn't recognize is a celebrity and had just purchased a new Rolls Royce (the 2nd vehicle we had) and we were taking a picture in front of it when the owner came running down the street bare foot smelling like A LOT of alcohol and screaming profanities and told us “Get out. You rappers are done with your music video!!" Fact is, there was NO music, NO one was loud, unruly or disturbing except him (James). All we had was an evening of dinner (totaling 8 people including myself and my biz partner) and discussed business and watched what was being presented to us. We were all baffled but in the end my partner and I simply packed our luggage, cleaned the house and in 30 minutes were off to check into a hotel. Sad.

You look at pictures, and you never think its going to be as nice when you get there, but this place was so much better!! If you want authentic Hollywood Hills, this is it! Excellent place to bring friends and family. We had 8 and it was a perfect fit. Views are fantastic. You will not be disappointed. Even my 10 year old daughter loved the house. Location is exactly what we were looking for minutes from Hollywood bowl, Universal Studios and Hollywood Blvd. Post mates app is the best delivery here FYI. Will stay here or in one of James’s other properties next time I’m in LA for sure!

Beautiful home, a little dusty, not wheelchair accessible

James' home is beautiful, with the top floor and third floor master bedroom views of the city, along with the gorgeous blue-tiled heated pool and hot tub being the highlights. I was there for a retreat with a nonprofit board, and one of our members uses a wheelchair - folks should note the elevator in this house does not fit a wheelchair, and there are three steps leading up to the front door of the house. Also, while the place was clean, it definitely seemed dusty, and the copper kitchen needs a good polish. And there seem to be bees living in the walls of the fourth floor, there were dead bees everywhere. The decor of the house is definitely memorable. The bathrooms don't have any toiletries beyond toilet paper and hand soap. And the windows don't open, unfortunately. Internet access was fairly reliable. The kitchen had plenty of pots and pans but hardly any mugs, and for some reason, no can opener. The fridge is also a bit small if you have groceries for a large group. My colleagues and I were cooking, so this threw us off a bit. The good news is James, the owner, is very responsive, the house is very spacious and easily fit eight of us, and we really did have a good time enjoying the views and the pool and hot tub. And a huge bonus that it's dog friendly, too!

Stunning Hollywood Hills

My family and another family traveled together and thought this would be a fun place to stay with our teenagers. Wow, what a fantastic place. Four stories of fun to capture anyone’s imagination. Pretty backyard with pool and spa, fantastic views, gorgeous neighborhood, a retro elevator, and close to everything. The Magic Castle is a blast if you are able to get in; we did the family brunch on Sunday and it’s always great.

The Perfect Retreat

My son rented this beautiful villa for our family on Father's Day weekend. We were 6 people - my son, his wife, his children, my wife and I - and the house was so large, it could have fit many more. In all my years visiting Los Angeles, I have never seen a creative masterpiece such as this. I was completely blown away. From the hand-welded elevator (which was very helpful for my wife and I), to full suits of armor, to a room whose walls were completely covered in playing cards, the artistry of the owner was visible everywhere. We felt like we had journeyed into the past, yet with all the modern conveniences. Whenever we had questions (as it was a very large house to navigate), there was someone right next door available to help. I think I had as much fun as the kids did. We hardly had to leave the place, we were so entertained by the house itself. A perfect Father's Day gift - we had a wonderful weekend.

Wow, just wow!

This is my second time staying in one of James's properties, and I was once again blown away. When we wanted to visit the house that we had previously stayed in was booked. James asked if we wanted to stay in the "sister" property. I thought that there was no way that it could equal the other house, but like a set of super model twins, one was just as beautiful as the other but in a slightly different way. I loved the views of the city, while my wife loved the pool and backyard area. The pool was at the perfect temperature for night swimming. The house has to be seen to be believed, its truly a work of art that you live in. If you are on the fence about booking, don't hesitate, as the commercial says "Just Do It." You can thank me later.

Great Hollywood Hills Destination

Great views, Great home, Great Trip! It was nice to have our small group stay in one home and still be able to have a little privacy. Close to Sunset Blvd, Hollywood Bowl and fabulous dining options. The highlight, thinking you see you a great William H. Macy impersonator and then realize he's your neighbor walking down the street! Look forward to staying here again.
