About this property

The Aviary welcomes you to the newest sanctuary in town. This freshly renovated space is perched above some of the greatest spots around, only 1 mile to Lake Michigan. Bathed in sunlight, The Aviary offers a luxurious experience for two guests.
An inflatable queen mattress is available upon request. Spacious enough to entertain for 6. This one bedroom, 2 bath loft apartment in the Uptown Arts District.

At The Aviary, you are only steps away from the weekly Farmer’s Market (May-Oct), unique boutique shopping and two blocks from the Lighthouse Outlet Mall. Various restaurants are within a 1-3 block walk. Some of our favorites include Farina’s Cafe, Royale with Cheese, Mucho Mas, Hokkaido, and Leed’s Public House. Be sure to stop in downstairs at Mucho Mas for the areas most sought after California Fresh Mexican food and get two free tacos on us! Be sure to ask us about the amazing local winery and brewery options.

Cycle around the downtown or to the beach with the provided cruisers, locks included.

And since you can’t be this close to beautiful Lake Michigan and NOT go to the beach, we’ve provided beach towels, sunscreen, tanning lotion, two beach chairs and a cooler. All you need are your shades! Visit beautiful Washington Park Beach and Lighthouse only 1 mile away. The Indiana Dunes National Park is just a short 3 mile drive away. Known for its plant and bird diversity, shifting sand dunes, lush wetlands and prairies, it’s easy to see why over 3 million people visit the park’s 15,000 acres every year. Hike your heart out on over 50 miles of trails or just take a leisurely stroll along the shore and watch the sunset highlight the Chicago skyline.

Some of the greatest attractions to the area are within a short walk, bike ride or a quick trip in the car. Parking is free unless visiting the beach or National Park.

Great place for business or leisure

Very nice apartment that we use to house our director and to host business meetings. Close to many restaurants, shopping, the lakefront and the casino. We will definitely book again next time we are in the area. The host was attentive and responsive — a 10 out of ten!!

There's a bit of an echo... this place is big.

I worked remotely for about two weeks from this location in the late fall of 2023. Internet connectivity was sufficient throughout the property. I've always been curious as to the apartments above storefronts in those quintessential brick buildings that line the main street in so many towns. Seeing this listening I was excited for the opportunity to stay in one. The apartment is laid out well, the master suite is far from the living space and there's a secondary bathroom off the main living area - great if you're working early while your spouse is still sleeping. The kitchen is sufficient, laid out well and has enough cookware to perform for non-extravagant meals. The laundry area is easy to access, and there's more than ample storage in various closets. The main area which encompasses the kitchen, dinning area, and living area is very large. There's a bit of an echo if you're sitting at the kitchen counter talking loudly into a zoom call. Location wise this is a great location. There's great food within walking distance and it's very close to the beach. It's reasonably quiet - some train noise - that the bedroom is at the back of the unit helps with any street noise that might arise from bar goers. If I were to look for fault, I would say the pillow cases were a bit scratchy. I still had a 5-star experience but they were the lowlight. When I return to Michigan City in the future I'll be checking the availability of this property to stay here again.

A great place to stay!

The Aviary was very spacious and clean, and it was the perfect spot for a little getaway. Close to shopping, restaurants, and the beach, you can walk practically anywhere if you want, and if you don’t, everything is just a short drive away. The apartment itself has a huge living space next to the kitchen, and the bedroom is a nice place to retire at the end of the day. The place is above a restaurant, and the cleaning crew gets a bit noisy at closing time. It didn’t bother us, but it’s something to be aware of. Parking is next to a dumpster, so it gets a bit stinky coming and going, but it’s a minor inconvenience. Overall, this is a great place to stay, and we would for sure visit again.

Indiana Dunes Fun

Stayed here as a convenient place to explore the national park. Enjoyed having many great food options within walking distance. Really impressed with the manager's responsiveness!
