Morningwood ~ Gorgeous Remodel, Wine Country Lodge with Forest Views

Morningwood is a dream home! An impressive great room, open kitchen with dining area and counter seating, soaring 15-foot cathedral ceilings, walls of windows, large wood beams, and multiple levels make this a stunning vacation home! Perched on a redwood-covered hillside high above the Russian River Valley, Morningwood is a thoughtfully restored historic cabin built by George Guerne in 1906.

Live the Wine County lifestyle. What’s that? A robustly stocked and remodeled chef’s kitchen with stainless steel appliances, large, hooded gas range, separate beverage fridge, and counters to cook for days. Indoor and outdoor dining with treetop views, redwoods, and colorful Japanese maples. Updated technology, comfortable beds, and inviting remodeled bathrooms. Three large, yet cozy, bedrooms are all located down the custom-built grand staircase and share no walls. Each bedroom with access to the outdoors – stepping out to the hot tub, sitting with a cup of coffee in the morning, or sipping a glass of wine after a day of adventures in Sonoma County.

Blending new and old, you’ll spy lodge-style touches and original artwork along with smart devices (Alexa’s) to play music, YouTubeTV, and entertainment such as boardgames and an electronic dartboard. And that’s just inside! Walk to the Russian River or downtown Guerneville and take a cab back up the hill! Drive to Armstrong Woods or Northwoods Golf Course, abundant wineries, coastal beaches, and so much more! Local bars offer live music and events. Festivals, art galleries, farmer’s markets, and FOOD – West Sonoma County has it all!




Know Before You Book:

Maximum Occupancy and Quiet Hours: The maximum occupancy at Morningwood is 8 people not including kids 3 years old and younger. Quiet hours are from 10:00 pm until 7:00 am. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited by law at all times.

Bed Sizes: Master bedroom: King bed; Bedroom 2: Queen bed; Bedroom 3: Queen bed and Full sleeper sofa.

Heat Source: Morningwood has central heat plus 2 woodburning stoves (one in the upstairs great room and one in the downstairs foyer). Firewood and kindling are not provided, but you are welcome to bring your own or use any left by prior guests.

Parking: There is parking for a maximum of 3 vehicles: 1 car in the upper driveway (paved) and 2 vehicles in the lower driveway (paved and gravel). The driveways are off a steep section of Summit Avenue and a little additional clearance may help you get in and out of the parking places. RVs, trailers, and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.

Road to Morningwood: The house is located up a narrow one-lane road. It is a two-way, one-lane hillside road - fully paved and no special vehicle requirements. We provide detailed written driving directions to confirmed guests.

Location: Morningwood is located in a cozy (very LGBT-friendly) residential neighborhood. It is a mix of permanent residents and vacation rentals – with retirees, families, working folks, and visitors. To honor this balance, we ask guests to park only in the driveways and respect the quiet hours in addition to general family-friendly, residential neighborhood expectations. Thank you for helping to continue the tradition of a mutually beneficial relationship between vacation rentals and the local community!

Stairs: From the upper parking place there are 3 steps to the front door. From the lower driveway, there are 5 steps to the front door. Once inside the house, the kitchen, dining, living room, and a full bathroom are on the upper (main) floor. A wide curved staircase with 15 steps leads to the lower level with the bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. Outside, the hot tub, BBQ, and dining table are on the upper deck. All bedrooms have access to a wrap-around deck that connects to the upper level. A large, shaded hangout area with seating for 8 is located up a few gravel steps off the upper deck.

Pet Policy: This home does not allow pets of any kind.

Fencing: The street-facing sections of the yard are fenced, and the hillside sections of the yard are mostly enclosed with decks and fencing.

A Note About TVs: All TVs have YouTubeTV instead of cable. You can watch live TV, local channels, sports, and more with YouTubeTV. There are also Netflix, Amazon Video, and Hulu apps for which you are welcome to use your login info. There are many free streaming stations as well. The televisions do not have traditional cable service.

Additional Amenities: Morningwood offers an electronic dartboard, board games, puzzles, and hundreds of movies on BluRay and DVD.

Common Amenities Not Included:
This home does not have Air Conditioning – However, ceiling and freestanding fans are provided along with blinds and blackout curtains. Towering redwood trees and coastal breezes help cool homes in the Russian River area.
Cable TV is not provided. Live TV is available via YouTube TV on all TVs in the home (please see the note about TVs above).

Proximity to wineries: The closest wine tasting rooms are located 1 mile away in downtown Guerneville, and there are dozens of award-winning wineries and tasting rooms within 15 minutes by car.

Nearest River Beach: The nearest river access/beach is a neighborhood beach 0.5 mi from the house - though the beach is variable – about a 2-minute drive and 7-minute walk (downhill).

Nearest Ocean Beach: The coastal beaches in Jenner are approx. 13 miles.

A Note About Our Cleaning Fees: 100% of the cleaning fee goes directly to the cleaners and inspectors for their hard work to ensure that you have a clean and welcoming space to call home during your stay. The fees are set to provide our cleaning staff with a living wage.
