Loved the peaceful quiet neighborhood. Walked my dog on quiet street every morning.
Watched dolphins, loons, and osprey fishing right out the back door.
Probably one of our best vacations! Hands down the location of this home was fantastic! We live in rural Missouri so this was perfect! Saw dolphins swim by night 1 ! Sunrises were phenomenal ! We did many things like visit Florida, Gulf shores, dauphin island and enjoyed being able to cook in the full kitchen!
Cheryl is amazing and the owners respond to message extremely quick!
Best experience ever.... definitely looking forward to another trip in the future.... hopefully this home....it's perfect!
Cheryl was super easy to get in touch with. Checking in was a breeze, even tho we were later than we wanted to be. It's a beautiful property and we were thrilled with our stay. The water out front is great, our not quite 2 yr old definitely loved it more than the actual beach. It's, I would say, an older home, but the kitchen is WAY updated, bathrooms were great and it was the absolute best home away from home for us!! The most gorgeous sunrises, Every. Single. Morning. Thank y'all so much for letting us stay, we will be back!
This was our second stay at this property, and the view of Perdido Bay is definitely the main attraction. Sunrises and moonrises are incredible, and it doesn’t matter the weather, you can enjoy the view inside and out. The house is very open, lots of room to move about.
The king bed leaves a great deal to be desired; the mattress could qualify as a torture device. However, the other beds are comfortable.
If you are a coffee drinker, just bring your own coffee maker. The one here is ancient and takes forever to brew a mediocre pot of coffee. Other things you will want to bring with you: sharp knives (if you want to cut anything in the kitchen), clean dish scrubbers (we found them to be full of someone else’s food), and a grill (the one on site was rusted out and unusable). Also, the listing photos show several outdoor chairs. Just bring your own if you plan to sit outside. The chairs were weathered, cracked, and nearly falling apart. One was not safe to sit in.
Also note that the cottage in front of this house also gets rented. It’s not a big deal until you have strangers peering in your back windows while they are out enjoying the view of the bay. Thankfully, we made friends with the cottage renters while they were there, so we only had one day of “strangers peering in.”
Overall, this is a great rental because of the amazing view. The house itself just needs a few minor improvements to take it from great to fabulous. We would definitely rent again.
We greatly enjoyed our visit. The house was large. Simply furnished. The view of the bay was amazing. If you are looking for a quiet get-away, this is it!
Vacation to relax and this was the perfect place. We had out dogs with us To enjoy the water and beach.
House is nice and big on the water. It is older and outdated, needs a good cleaning. Painting and updating of exposed wires and vents. Would be better with more essential items stocked since it is a 20 minute drive to a Dollar general or gas station. Add more kitchen linens, blankets, small little touches with the updates would really make an improvement.
We will book here again.
The home wasn’t as clean as I would have preferred. The housekeeper did say the water was shut off for a while though. We bought a few things to cook with. We did enjoy our stay. We could see the dolphins swimming each morning & my oldest son fished. We also liked being able to bring our dog.
The house was great- location, new higher end appliances, fully equipped kitchen all with a great view out the huge back window wall. Water access via stairs was right there also. I was referred to a great local bar and grill marina that was minutes from the house. We will definitely book again and again. We liked the area so much we may look at a home there. Management was very responsive to questions and pleasant to deal with.
Fabulous property for beautiful sunrises! Sits directly on the bay and we were able to rent a pontoon boat from Orange Beach and drive to the house during our outing! If you want a peaceful place away from the hustle and bustle this is it!
I’m the beginning we had a few issues. House wasn’t total ready for us and had to asked for a toaster and other things. However the manager was very responsible and we enjoyed our stay. We will be back. They need to update Vrbo website.
The house couldn't have had a better location! The home is older but clean.
I would recommend that coffee filters and coffee be provided (even just for one day). We got in late and didn't stop before arriving for food. The salt shaker was empty. It may be time to check their supplies.
Our dogs loved the house and yard. We enjoyed drinking coffee out by the water.
We'd definitely stay again.

Beautiful View! Filthy, Disgusting House! Took 30 hours of my time to clean in order to stay in!
Southern Hospitality? No Welcome Package!
***The property is 25 minutes from Beach***
When I first walked into the house, I was so disgusted with the odor! Moldy and musty!
The last review is really an accurate one from January. Dirty dishes in the cupboard. The property manager did not answer my call and when I saw her come to clean the back cottage, I know why the cottages are as clean as they are. Never came to talk to me. I never expected to go on vacation and have to clean so much....however, it was NECESSARY! No garbage bags, no dishwasher soap, no cleaning supplies. It took two bottles of Mr. Clean, four rolls of paper towels and a few rags that I had to buy it myself! Not to mention, a lot of sweat and muscle.
Humidity creates the musty smell and mold. (Need to run a dehumidifier or air conditioner) Dirt, dust, filth, fur and grease stinks....I have before and after pictures to prove the work I did! There was fur growing on the ceiling fan! FUR! So gross...
However...THE VIEW IS INCREDIBLE! After I washed the windows, we could see the beautiful sunrise every morning. Also, another advantage of cleaning the windows, we didn't have dead bug carcasses blowing on us at night when we slept, so we could enjoy the warm breeze! I also, washed the moldy curtains and cleaned under the bed, over the bed, around the bed, dusted the lampshades, cleaned the angel picture and cleaned over the door jambs. Replaced the bedding with my own and slept so well! (I'm not gonna go thru detail of what I did throughut the whole house, but I pay extreme attention to detail). The front yard should be raked so that we could walk out in the yard barefoot without stepping on empty nutshells. (Honestly, if there was one, I would have raked!) The only room I didn't clean was the small bathroom. I was just too tired!
I did however, wash the shower curtain and left a note that I did get the mold removed from it.
This house COULD make a very nice rental.
***Suggestions: Immediately: replace stained pillows and torn and worn towels
Deep Cleaning/Paint: Interior/Exterior
Replacement or Removal of Furnishings. (torn)
Upgrade Bedding. Upgrade TV. Consider a canoe or kayak.
Fix Carport....Hazard
I have to admit, After I invested the time cleaning I enjoyed my vacation.
Crazy, I'd rebook, but he raised the rent now!
I worked VERY HARD. I stayed back one day while my husband went to tour the USS Alabama to clean. Never a Thank You!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this rental! We loved the waterfront location and the fact that we could just turn the kids loose and not have to worry. It was very quiet and peaceful. The house was clean and comfortable. We had a couple of minor hiccups while we were there, but Cheryl was very receptive and quick to help us out. We are already planning to come back! We loved it!
Bay side location was great change for us. WE have older kids (teens). We have always taken them directly on the beach. This was a pleasant change. Big hint on fishing...don't use shrimp. Use squid. The little garbage fish can't strip the squid off so ignore the little bites. Only set hook on the big hits!
This is beautiful area, and a nice piece of property to stay thats well away from tourists. Just as our own home, the price to pay for seclusion is a 25 min. drive to the closest grocery store. We didn't have any issues during our stay and were comfortable even with the severly worn out furniture, there was obvious evidence of the previous presence of rodents on the furnished dishes, silverware, in the cabinets and drawers. With a nonrefundable payment for the stay we just made sure to wash any dishes and sanitize all surfaces before usage. We are a very open minded family so we didnt allow any of this to bother us but felt it necessary to inform others of the conditions they may be getting into.
Property is outdated but your not there to sit in the house. Beautiful water front yard! Bay water is warm and shallow. Seen dolphins several times. Can’t wait to return!!
This cottage was spacious enough for a larger group than we brought. It was obviously recently cleaned. Some maintenance still needs to happen, but we were comfortable!! The wooden deck was fun to sit on and visit. The view is wonderful!

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Disliked: Cleanliness, listing accuracy
Needs major updating
Property needs some major updating and maintenance, including painting, rotted wood repairs and cleaning. When we opened the door, the first impression was the musty, moldy smells. Furniture was all shoved against the walls, making it look weird. No ESPN on TV (I've never staying in a rental without ESPN!).
We rented it for 3 nights, but packed up and went home after one night. The sunrise view was amazing, but that's the only thing we loved about this place.

Beautiful views, right on Perdido Bay!
I’ve stayed here several times before and it’s the most relaxing spot around. I’ve lived in Mobile all of my life and Josephine is one of the rare jewels that still remain. The home was perfectly clean (as always) and so beach friendly. Get up early to watch the sky change colors as the sun rises to a new day.
This is not a home to rent if you’re looking to walk down the road to a restaurant or bar. This IS the home to rent if you’re looking for a relaxing vacation with room for a lot of family!
Thank you again. I’ll be back!

About the host
Hosted by Steve Cortright
Writer whose children learned to swim here, and enjoyed walking on the sands of Perdido Bay.
Why they chose this property
This house was built in 1954 and expanded in 1975 by my Father who was and engineer and supervised a large part of the building of the Hoover Dam. My brother-in-law commented, after seeing the house during construction; "your father is building that house like he is spending government money." He was referring to my father's engineer's attention to detail.
My father selected this site because of the soft sand and the warm shallow water which is perfect for small children. In the photos section you can see my three great granddaughters playing about 40 or 50 feet in front of the see wall, and they just over waist-deep at high tide. This is the perfect place for children.
What makes this property unique
Seeing the ospreys and other wildlife, the sound of the waves throughout the house, the quiet, friendly neighborhood, water safe for children to learn to swim, uncrowded boating, fishing right there.
