Check-in went smooth. Guest services staff was friendly. Unit was clean although there were roaches (only a couple, but gross). HVAC system was too weak to cool the house in the heat of the day and the thermostat was difficult to understand without instructions. Found an online video on how to program the thermostat but it never worked. House temperature did cool at night but only because the sun was down. Sleeping was still uncomfortable. Could never reach anyone to fix the situation. Wi-fi was spotty, with dead spots. Needs range extender. Amenities were nice as advertised although upon returning Friday from a hot day out hiking Chimney Rock we were bummed out to find the pool had been reserved for a private party. Not cool. Power going out Saturday was the last straw -- we'd seen all we cared to see of Rumling Bald, Lake Lure and Rutherford County. Since we were planning to go to Asheville on Sunday anyway, we checked out early -- the bears at the trash bins bid us farewell and we were on our way. Can't say the visit was a total bust but it certainly could have been better.
