Peaceful Waterfront Cottage, Steps to Gulfport! Old Oaks Tall Pines Lush Yard.

Located directly on Boca Ciega Bay leading to the Gulf of Mexico, this beautiful bungalow went through a full year of renovations. Keeping in mind the craftsmanship of this home and the her history. Attention to detail is found through out the home from continuing the baseboards in marble in the 3 bathrooms to match the baseboards in the main rooms. The matching the columns found in the porch continues in the kitchen.
Peaceful colors of water and trees brings a calmness to from the moment you enter.

Over time we began to realize what a special place Gulfport and Gommer's is. We then made decisions that would last a lifetime in any changes we made. We thought about details already there and copied them in other area's. We brought the original floors to their warm sheen and hunted down old pine to match areas that needed repair.

We thought about what makes a home comfortable and what makes you sleep well.

There are two bedrooms, two with Sleep/Number beds. 300+ thread count 100% cotton. Everything fresh and clean. Each bedroom has its own sense of privacy with two and half baths attached or close by. Each bath has marble subway tile. Perfect for two couples to get together and get away. With the Den to find a quiet spot to read or work

The kitchen was completely opened up leading to an open floor plan, so you may enjoy the water view and your company. With new appliances, farm sink, gas range, dishwasher, and washer dryer.

It has a screen porch leading to the water and a large lot for outdoor recreation and peaceful relaxation.

One morning I was eating my breakfast down by the water and watched a gentleman fly fishing. A Heron was watching him and ever so slowly worked his way over to him. Eventually they were so close, they could have touched each other. The fisherman never knew, until that moment, that the bird was there. He turned slowly and looked at the tall thin gray bird, just as the bird turn to him. They stayed that way for a bit, as if they both knew why they were there. Dolphins swim quietly by if you’re patient you’ll see them swimming home from the Gulf.

It is a quiet, peaceful, special place waiting for you to slow down and take a breath. To read a book. To listen to the birds. To laugh with friends. To drink a glass of wine or a cold brew. Breathtaking sunrise and sunsets.

Best place to be in Gulfport

We love being at Gommer House. This was our third year enjoying this magical property. It is a short walk to Shore Blvd and Beach Blvd. Sitting on the porch for lunch or dinner or just to read, the view is over the top enjoyable. Framed by the beautiful yard, the private beach beckons. The owner is very responsive if a question arises. The house itself is comfortably furnished. You couldn’t ask for a nicer place to call home in Gulfport.

Great House

We really enjoyed the house. Communication with Mary prior to checkin was excellent. I believe this is the first location that sent access instructions prior to me having to ask. The place was near multiple food options allowing us to walk many evenings. There were bars with live music on the weekends, we could hear on the screened in porch, but not in the house. The screened in porch was a huge hit, had the rockers and could read a book and sip on wine in the evenings while looking at the water and checking for dolphins. We would love to return to the house when we come down for another long visit.

Incredible beach house offering the best of Florida

We returned from Europe to my hometown to visit family and enjoy some time with the family. Everything about Grommer’s House was spectacular. Mary and Dan made us truly feel like we were at a home away from home, and we couldn’t have asked for anything more. The house is an older style bungalow that has been impeccably remodeled and perfectly preserved. It felt like we were in old Florida though the furnishings and amenities are far from old. The private beach and outdoor areas were perfectly cared for and the children loved every minute. Walking to Gulfport was less than 5 min and this was convenient to eat, go to the park, or visit the local restaurants/stores. We absolutely will visit again, and are so grateful that we found Grommer’s House and had the chance to experience the super hosts Mary and Dan. 100% recommend this very special place, miss it already.

Quiet beach charm

This wonderful beach cottage reminded me of my grandma’s beach cottage, but beautifully remodeled inside while still keeping the beach charm. Clean and plenty of room to spread out inside and outside! Inside was clean and comfortable with all the amenities needed to stay close by. The sleep number beds were super comfy too. Outside was a large sun porch with plenty of seating, or you can dine outside next to the grill under the natural tree canopy. Personally, I enjoyed watching the afternoon storms in the sun porch . And the backyard beach! Options for natural shade or full sun while enjoying the natural habitat. Gulfport is an artsy town with plenty to do and lots of places to eat … all within walking distance too! As we have family nearby I’m hoping to return to this gem soon!

We love it!

We absolutely love everything about Gommer’s House! We can tell many happy memories have been made here by the Crear family. The house and all the amenities have been well thought out. Whether spending time in the house, eating on the side patio, having morning coffee on the porch, an evening glass of wine sitting on the beach the magic of the lush landscape, the lapping of the water on the shore, the sounds of the songbirds, or the gentle breezes, Gommer’s House is the perfect place for peace and restoration. Mary and Dan provide an amazing assortment of books, games, and puzzles. Mary is very responsive with answers to any questions or concerns. The house is just a couple of blocks from downtown Gulfport which has a variety of good restaurants, galleries, a Tuesday Farmers’ Market, and music somewhere every night. It’s 20 minutes from downtown St. Petersburg where incredible museums await — the Salvador Dali Museum, The James Museum, and The Chihuly Collection. We have created our own memories at Gommer’s House the past two years and look forward to creating more in 2023.

A Florida gem

We have rented this house in February for the past three years, and the property and the community just keep growing more dear to us. Mary and Dan are superb hosts who think of everything— books and games for all ages, plush linens, well stocked kitchen, even the kitchen knives are sharp, a rarity in the STR market. The town itself is casual and welcoming and altogether charming. We cannot wait to return.

Great Gulfport Location

Two of us spent a week in this updated bungalow - visiting friends and exploring the area. The house, while small, has all of the basics and was perfectly clean and neat. The location is near the marina and restaurants are close enough to walk. Overall, a very enjoyable stay.

Perfect place to get away!

My husband and I stayed a week at the Gommer’s House and love it! The large yard is lush and full of large oak trees with Spanish moss hanging in the trees with a beautiful private beach to sit and watch the dolphins, birds and fish in the bay! And just a block away are plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance which we walked to almost every day. Loved Caddy’s and their wonderful bar staff Hailey, Ashley and Megan. Stores are also within walking distance. The house was clean and had everything we needed. Beds were comfortable and everything was absolutely perfect! I recommend anyone to stay here any time you want to get away. You won’t be disappointed!

A Slice of Heaven

Our stay at the Grommer House was a week of sunshine and happiness. The house was so cozy and felt like home. There were books from all over the world to read and a porch that you never wanted to leave from. We slept so soundly in the sleep number beds. The yard was right out of a postcard with mature landscaping and the bay shore that was always so relaxing and peaceful. The owners were only a message away and let us know of the markets and fantastic restaurants just two block away. Her staff keep the yard manicured and bay shore beach area raked and cleaned. Your own private paradise.....

An absolutely perfect getaway... Extremely cozy bungalow tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. Minutes away from St. Petersburg, Passe-A-Grille, and walking distance from a street filled with restaurants & shops. The owners were very helpful in filling us in on numerous and various places to visit... all of them were hits. After a full day excursion, this is the perfect place to wind down on the back patio, curl up and read a book, or walk back a block away and have a night cap at O'Maddy's. We will definitely be back.

We enjoyed the back yard Beach area a lot! My daughter had her proposal in that very backyard sand. Beautiful views, quiet,quiet town & everyone was so friendly. Get on Gulf Blvd. & take it up, to check out all the beaches on the Gulf. Stunning views. We enjoyed many meals on the patio with the grill. Screened in porch on the back side of the house was nice to sit around with the family! Walk down a few blocks and you're surrounded by little shops,food & bars. Best pizza Siri's in Gulfport, great coffee shop & ice cream parlor!!!! Would definitely recommend this place! #loveislove 🏳️‍🌈

Lovely Gulfport Home

Gommers place was our home away from home for a few weeks while our home was being renovated. The home is well maintained, thoroughly equipped, nicely decorated and absolutely beautiful! You can sit on the peaceful shores of the property or watch the waves roll in from the porch. Mary is an exceptional host and very accommodating. She kept us well informed about the various art walks and events in the area. The Gulfport Fresh Market every Tuesday is awesome and we especially enjoyed dining at Stellas. The neighborhood is quiet and minutes away from St. Pete Beach, Pass-a-Grille and Ft. Desoto. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay 100% and would highly recommend!

Magical property

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this beautiful Gulfport home. Aside from the sheer beauty of the setting, Mary, the property owner, went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and at home. Mary was an amazing host. She always responded quickly to any question we had. The house is beautifully maintained. Don’t bother to bring a book. There are lots of wonderful books as well as puzzles and some games. At the beginning of our stay the weather was cooler than expected. We didn’t mind because the house was so comfortable and it was such a pleasure to be on the property. Sitting on the porch with screens on three sides, nothing was more relaxing than hearing the sound of the water gently lapping on the beach or the sound the wind makes as it slowly builds through the trees. The birds also had a lot to say. The light filtered by the Spanish moss seemed like no other. All the while, we could rock gently back and forth. If we were reading a book, sometimes we just had to put it down to listen and watch. We loved being able to walk two blocks to downtown Gulfport. Restaurants and businesses followed Covid guidelines. Some of our favorites things to do were having coffee mid-morning at Gulf Perks, purchasing locally grown organic vegetables, honey and kettle popcorn on Fresh Market Tuesdays, and eating a leisurely lunch outdoors at Pia’s with a nice glass of chianti. A couple of days when we chose to stay home, we had new experiences on the property’s private beach. On three days horseshoe crabs came up on the beach to mate. On another day, four female peacocks wandered onto the beach to explore for a couple of hours. It was also fun to eat lunch outdoors on the patio looking down over the expansive lawn to the beach and seeing the jewels on the water. Gommer’s House is a unique magical property in Gulfport. We are coming back.

Perfect place with updated features close to everything

We had a group of six adults stay for the last week of 2020. The house was beautiful with its' own private beach-front in Gulfport. The house has immaculately clean, and the owners communicated quickly and effectively. The beds were GREAT (sleep number beds in two of the rooms). We watched the New Year fireworks launched from the adjacent Pier from the property and they exploded above us (we had best view). The local food and fare was within walking distance. I HIGHLY recommend!

Delightfully charming cottage

My family stayed here for a week. The cottage was comfortable and charming. The lot this cottage rests on is beautiful and invites the guest to rest on the porch with a coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening. Kayaking in the first part of the morning is peaceful, while the evening offers a glimpse of dolphin pods feeding just along the banks. The little town is quaint with some great local areas to eat and hang out. Highly recommend. This is our new favorite getaway. Thank you for sharing this treasure with us.

Beautiful retreat at the bay

Our family needed a long term rental while our house was being renovated, and Gommer’s house was the most affordable option we found at the beach. What I didn’t expect was just how beautiful the home and property were though! Mary has created a beautifully and thoughtfully appointed home that is perfect for anyone seeking a relaxing and fun escape. And the location in Gulfport is the perfect home base for day trips to the gorgeous beaches nearby, fun dinners out in St. Pete, or just sitting on the private beach on the bay watching the boats and wildlife from your own backyard. My favorite area of the home was the screened in porch, which offers amazing views of the water as well as majestic trees and foliage of Old Florida. Highly recommend this wonderful property!

Most relaxing vacation.

We had a wonderfully relaxing vacation at Gommer’s house. Due to Covid-19 and other reasons, we decided to stay local. It was perfect for my husband, mother and I to stay by ourselves. We sat by the water everyday watching the wildlife and the boats pass by. We were lucky to have a nice breeze most days during these hot July days. The beds and pillows were so comfortable as the entire house was spacious and inviting. Lots of restaurants nearby for lunch and dinner choices. Mary was the perfect host and communication was great! Thanks again and we hope to come back in the near future. I highly recommend it!

Relaxing getaway

My husband and I spent 3+ weeks at this lovely property in February 2020. The house is well represented by the photos on VRBO, and Mary is a gracious host and good communicator. We felt welcome and supported as we learned our way around her home. What can’t be depicted in the pictures are the beauty of the setting and the easy, welcoming vibe of the community of Gulfport. The house is 1-2 blocks from both good and excellent restaurants, shopping, parks and the beach. We immediately built Fresh Market Tuesday into our weeks and were rewarded with German bread, Wisconsin cheese, and authentic Scottish shortbread, along with produce, tee shirts, candles and other market fare. There seems to be something fun and/or interesting going on in the town every weekend. We needed a relaxing getaway so we did only a limited amount of exploring the area. But we did get to the Chihuly and Dali museums in St. Petersburg (15 minute drive and well worth it) and we went to a spring training game at the new Braves’ stadium near Sarasota. This vacation was everything and more that we needed, and Gommer House provided a warm inviting core of our experience. We look forward to returning.

Our name is Dan and Mary Crear. This is Gommer's house. That's what he called his Grandmother. Gommer. As life would have it, the time came when Gommer needed help and came to spend more time in Minnesota with Dan's parents.

When the time came, Dan's mom inherited the home and it was her time to care for this wonderful old home.

So Liza and Bill took over, and it was where they brought the kids to visit their cousins. Play on the beach and enjoy the sunshine. Found on the bookshelves, that line the entry hall, you will see pictures of them and other family members, enjoying their childhood.

Then they too came to a place in time, where they wanted less to worry about and wondered if any of the kids might like to buy her. There were five children and we where the last in line.

We bought this house, when we were young and poor, with a plan to live here when our kids were grown. So we rented it out and waited for our time to come.

It is here and ready now. We made this house, our home and want to share it with others.

We placed a great deal of thought, into what a retreat is and how do you make a house, a home.

Our plan was to move here in the next five years, but after spending time in Gulfport and in this wonderful property, that will be a much shorter wait.

Gommer's House has her own private white shelled beach, that is very secluded with folage shielding each side. See the large horseshoe crabs crawling though the water. Fish jump and fishermen in waders, fly fishing for evening dinner.

In the morning you will watch the sun rise and see the wildlife catch their breakfast. Pelican's with their big beaks and plunging dives. Woodstorks, White Ibis, Heron's, Willet and not to mention the Osprey. We have a beautiful Hawk who will take a lunch and visit the yard.

See the old oaks with their moss covered limbs stretching over the yard, giving cool relief to afternoons. Old pines mixing in with tall palms to fill in the shade. Quiet neighbors who care about each other, but respect your privacy. The neighbors multicolored cat, who keeps to herself but makes sure no critters bother you.

A newly screened porch with refinished floors and new doors to sit and rock your day away. You watch the water change and sparkle, with the occasional sailor and kayak pass by.

It is a classic bungalow in a wonderful setting. Brick roads lead up to Gommer's front door. Then you enter a newly renovated 1940's Bungalow. Renovated from top to bottom and end to end, keeping in mind the era and charm of this home.

Every window and door has been painstakingly removed, striped down and rebuilt. All the original hardware stripped and rebuilt. Large muti paned windows, look out over old trees and bay views.

Colors of the walls reflect the colors of the foliage and the colors of the beach. Nine foot ceilings, lead up to coffered beams of classic style, in the dining room. Clean newly painted white woodwork, though out the house, brings a sense of light and calm.

Cushioned couches flank each side of the fireplace, with a table to set your book and glass of wine. Shells fill the hearth, found over the years. Rare old yellow pine floors, that where newly refinished to a warm sheen. More to follow

What makes this property unique

So how is Gommer's unique? Because homes, like this have been torn down or remuddled or made into condo's. Time stands still here. It was a time when things were built to last forever. We have worked, to keep that in mind, when we brought her back to her glory.



This dining room with seating for eight, allows your guests and family to look over and see the beautiful bay view. At the same time the cook can visit with them and see it too. Ample room for dishes and glasses in the built in buffet. Everything is kept simple and to a minimum just as needed. Eight place mats,
eight cups, eight bowls, and plates. Ten wine glasses. You'll need one or two while you prepare dinner.

Heading to the kitchen brings you to the farm sink, built by one artisan from start to finish. Just the way they have always been built. We did decide that some things have to change. Dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, stainless refrig with water and ice in door. Washer/Dryer all new. Then we return to the classic white wainscoting of cupboard doors. Soapstone countertops that have a softness that wears with age.

The floors that aren't old yellow pine are greecian white marble mosac with small diamond dark gray inset. Subway tiles in the same white marble used for the backsplash. Simple and clean.

Glass doors and shining chrome fixtures. All new fixtures in the baths, including an airjet tub with dual controls, pedestal sink in master. Walk in shower with lots of room. We made sure the shower adjusts to those who are 5ft and those who are 7ft. Vanity sink has carrera top and glass knobs. Large chrome mirror for those 5 or 7ft.

A perfect stay for two couples, with the third bedroom offering a quiet get away. Relax on the pottery barn couch and read away from the others, with a view of the water. Room to enjoy each other & work if you must.
