About this property

Stunning Nubble Lighthouse & Ocean Views, 3891 sq. ft. 267' of rocky coast!

Spend warm summer days on the deck, listening to the waves or winter days in front of the fireplace with Nubble Light peaking through the windows. Take postcard photos from a 5 bedroom oceanfront home about 1500 feet from Nubble Lighthouse; a mile to the nearest beach. All of the rooms have ocean views; half of the rooms have a view of the Nubble Light House. From the deck, lower level sunroom, or sunny dining room there are panoramic views from Long Sands Beach to the Nubble Light. On a clear night, you can see four lighthouses(from left to right): Nubble or Cape Neddick Light, Boon Island Lighthouse, the Isle of Shoals, and Whaleback Light. No bedroom is more than 7 steps from a bathroom. There are four queen bedrooms, and one with two twin beds. Watch the dawn strike the Nubble Lighthouse; the rhythmic waves crashing against the rocks; the sea birds, the pleasure, lobster and fishing boats, and kayakers. Explore rocky pools at low tide. The perfect place to relax or to walk. Enjoy the cries of the seagulls and the salt air. There are two 46"and a 55" HDTVs, an XBox One X, 5 Sonos wireless speaker units, and a surround sound set, (for hooking up to Internet radio or sync your music with your smart phone, iPad, or iPhone). Enjoy WiFi, and a multifunction printer to print your boarding passes. Free long distance to U.S. and Canada.
Why stay here? For a family gathering or retreat, there are five levels and a .61 acre yard allowing places to be apart or together. There is a separate game/family room for the children, just out of earshot from most of the rest of our home, another living room right by the kitchen and dining area, a deck off of the dining area, and a first floor sunroom for a get away. The Nubble is magical for us at any time of day or year. The leaves in York were stunning again this fall. My sister says that the Christmas lights on the Nubble makes it even more enchanting, as you can see from the picture Michael Blanchette took. The storms can be majestic showing the awesome power of the waves as they roar and spray on the rocks. Each dawn seems different, the dawn mist, the red in the morning, or the break of any day on the Nubble. No matter what you are doing you can enjoy the incredible light as it changes through the day. Some of the sunsets are spectacular, too. On moonlit nights, gazing on the shimmering waves, sometimes I hear 'Clair de Lune' other times, 'Moonlight Sonata' or 'La Mer.' We love the sound and smell of the ocean, and the cries of the seagulls, even as they drop shell fish on the rocks. We hope that you will, too. No weddings or large parties. First booking priority is given to returning guests for the same week(s) in the next year. There are reduced rates from September to May, and three day weekends are available from late October until the end of April. May to September are minimum weekly bookings.

We have seen stand up paddle boarders on calm days go out toward the lighthouse. On anything but a really calm day, I wouldn't want to try it. :-)

Or kayak in the ocean or up the York or Cape Neddick rivers and time your trip with the incoming or outgoing tide.

There are many fine restaurants in the area, and some are award winning.
More things to do: Stonewall Kitchens, which is just about opposite the I-95 exit for York, and it is a lovely place to shop for delicious goodies, have lunch, or just sample and browse until you make up your mind.

Some people fish off our rocks, or go on a boat to sightsee or to fish.
For history buffs, there is an old wharf owned by John Hancock, An Old Gaol (jail) which is also a museum, Inns and other historic things such as an old cemetery with death angels on some of the grave stones.

There are three or four golf courses relatively near. One is a top 100 public course.
There is an outlet complex just over the state line from the NH -- ME border in the next town of Kittery, or go a bit over an hour north to Freeport for their mall and L.L. Bean.. York, has no shortage of art, craft or touristy shops. You can almost always find something to do, and when you can't, Boston is 68 miles away. :-)

We had a three sisters family gathering and found the size and layout of the home perfect for privacy and group gatherings. There are breathtaking views from every bedroom and the main living space. You can hear waves when you sleep. The kitchen is large and well appointed for group cooking. Then you can enjoy your meal watching the ocean waves crashing on the rocks in front of you. The weather was stormy so we only had one evening to enjoy cocktails sitting in the picturesque Adirondack chairs gathered on the lawn overlooking the ocean. Sean, our host, was very responsive to every question we had. We would absolutely return to this spectacular home on the sea. Thank you, Sean, for sharing such a Maine coastal jewel.

Start of a new tradition!

Its been a few years since we vacationed in York so my sisters and our families decided to restart the "Thanksgiving at the Nubble" tradition. This property was absolutely perfect for our group of 9. The home and views were spectacular.

Spring family vacation

March in Maine is beautiful. The off season stay at this home was absolutely wonderful. The home has everything you will ever need. The host was attentive and always available. If you want a place to enjoy with your entire family this house is the place as it provides enough separate space for everyone. Eating in was a joy as the breathtaking ocean views made you feel like you are on a cruise ship! Just an absolute gem which we will be booking again.

Dream Vacation Home

My husband and I, and our daughter and son-in-law just returned from a week at this gorgeous home. The views can't be beat and the space is ideal for multi-generational visitors. Every thing you could possibly need is provided and the location is ideal to the beach at Long Sands and shopping at Kittery outlet malls. Mike is attentive to your every need and is there to answer any question you may have. We are already looking forward to returning next year.

Dear Beth, Thanks to you and yours for being our guests, and for your most charming review! Thanks for sending the video link which shows the panoramic views from the deck. As a point of clarification, while we are right on the rocky coast, the beaches are about a mile to the north or south. Apparently, you prefer Long Sands beach as do we. Also, the Kittery malls are about 11 miles or a 25 minute drive most days. A perfect rainy day excursion! Thanks too, for the compliments on my attentiveness. I try to do what I can from a distance. See you next year -- thanks for renewing! Best regards, Mike

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT!

Our family truly enjoyed this home. There are spectacular views and you can hear the ocean 24/7. We got to experience a very memorable moment- we saw a FULL double rainbow. Pictures don't do it justice. With all the different levels we were able to have quiet time if we wanted. The view of the Nubble Lighthouse was fantastic!

Second Time Around

We just returned from our second year spending our vacation in this gorgeous home overlooking the Nubble Lighthouse. Having enjoyed it so much last year, we knew what to expect and couldn't wait to get back to this comfortable family home where the views are so breathtaking and the accommodations are top-of-the-line. Lord willing, we'll be back there in 2015. A big THANK YOU to Mike and his family for sharing their beautiful home with others.
Response from VrboOwner on 2 Apr 2020
Dear Beth, Thanks for the kind words and compliments! As you know we love it when others enjoy our home, and what it has to offer. We have tried to provide the comforts and convenience of home in a stunning setting. It's so nice to have others appreciate our efforts. Yet, the best compliment that you can give us, is that you are returning again next year! Thank you! Best regards, Mike and Delinda

BEAUTIFUL WELL MAINTAINED OCEANFRONT HOME WITH A FULL VIEW OF NUBBLE LIGHTHOUSE

Between the direct view of the ocean with its smells and sounds and the view of Nubble lighthouse you will never want to leave the house. Anything you could ever want is right there for you. The kitchen is very well equipped. There are plenty of outdoor chairs. Sean is very responsive and genuinely wants to make sure his guests have a great experience. We’ve already booked our stay for next year.

WOW - THE BEST!!!

Wow- This really is the BEST vacation. This should actually be 6 stars!! The views are wonderful but just as nice is the house and the owners. The house was clean, comfortable and exactly what the description stated and more. The beds were very comfortable and it was nice to have plenty of space for each person to spread out and yet the family room with the large sofa was a great spot to get together and watch the game on the TV. Mike was very informative before and while we were there to answer any questions we may have had. We had a hard time leaving and will definitely be back.
Response from VrboOwner on 2 Apr 2020
Thanks Karen for the kind words! However, the way that story came to me was that you and your husband are great employees, manager and engineer, at another resort, so much so that your boss wanted to reward you with a vacation anywhere you wanted to go, and you two picked our place! Thank you! Even more so, you loved it and after 10 days in November, you didn't want to leave, and you want to come back! We'll love our home and the sights are great all year long. We love it when others feel the same way! Also, you were kind enough to share some of your photos which I will post soon. Thanks also for putting up with, and understanding that there is always fine tuning and upkeep of our home! Please do come back! Best, Mike and Delinda

Beautiful view in a fully equipped home

We had six guests, and there are ample places for both group activities and solitude. We enjoyed lobster at the great dining room table where we could watch the tide come and go and view Nubble lighthouse. Some of us spent hours exploring the rocks and the tidal pools, watched by the others sunning themselves on the Adorondack chairs on the lawn. We all relaxed and socialized in the open living room and fully-equipped kitchen (would you believe a sous-vide and a panini grill?), and watched tv and played games in the family room. A week went by too quickly. We can’t wait for the next one.

Just perfect!

Where to start! This home is just beautiful!! We have rented homes up and down the East coast for many years, and this one tops them all. The views from every window were wonderful. The home itself, included every possible amenity. It was super clean and every aspect of the home was the highest of quality. The location was perfect - between Kittery, York Beach(es), Ogunquit and the Marginal Way - there was lots to do! I must say, that we did venture out to explore, but enjoyed the house itself so much, that we stayed put a great deal of the time. I would also be remiss if I did not mention how great it was to work with the homeowners. From the moment we contacted them about the rental, until our departure, they were wonderful, friendly and helpful. I most certainly am looking forward to returning!
Response from VrboOwner on 2 Apr 2020
Dear Kate, Thanks for the kind words and the thoughtful review! A lot of our lives are lived in a "Compared to what?" world. As an experienced consumer, your opinion means a lot because of your favorable comparison of our home to other homes where you have stayed. Also, we are most fortunate to have such wonderful views right out the windows! Those views are spectacular all year, not just in the summer, and we are so grateful when others can take advantage of them in the other seasons. Vivaldi did not just score, "Summer." I think that the photos of Mike Blanchette, who is truly an artist, show what can be done year round with the views from our home and just down the street. Thanks for the kind words about us, too. We try to keep up and freshen our home as best we can, so that others may feel the same way that you do. We try to make sure that everything is okay for your stay, and to fix anything that is not, as soon as we can. Some things can be a little complicated, and we try to offer help if needed. It's nice to have our efforts appreciated! We hope that you and yours please do return! Best regards, Mike and Delinda

Wonderful - What more could I add.

Like the other reviewers, our experience was wonderful and I can't really add much to what has been said. We, group of 6 guys, stayed 1/18 - 21/ 2013 and enjoyed it all. The Sonos system was a great added extra. Also nice that Mike can control the heat remotely so the house was very comfortable on our arrival. The bed and bath arrangements were great with each couple having their own. I wanted a stunning Maine coast and view and this can't be beat. Mike the owner was great from start to finish - assuring that we were safely arrived and in with all of our questions covered. Dinner at the York Inn, a day in Portsmouth and a cooking class at Stonewall made for the perfect amount of winter weekend activities. One night we had dinner prepared by Tripp at the Village Food Market in Ogunquit to bring home - heat and serve - super easy and delicious. Don't hesitate. The place is great.
Response from VrboOwner on 19 June 2020
Thanks for the kind words, Doug, and for spending your birthday with your friends at our vacation home! I'm glad that you and yours got to experience so much of what York has to offer in even a long weekend in the winter -- when the views are still stunning! We agree: The York Harbor Inn is one of my favorite bang for the buck spots for Sunday Brunch, lunch, or dinner. The Stonewall Kitchen is another fav offering those browse, graze, learn, or lunch options. We love walking around the Federalist style shops and restaurants in Market Square in Portsmouth, too. Good to know about the dinner option from the Village Food Market. Also, thanks for your suggestions under separate cover! Be a Monet or Vivaldi and come back to enjoy each of the four seasons! Best regards, Mike

Peaceful getaway

I almost don't want to write a stellar review so that this remains a well-kept secret! I agree with previous reviews that the photos do not do this house or location justice. The location of the house is perfect - amazing views from any widow in the house. If I had that kind of view from my kitchen sink, I wouldn't mind washing dishes all day back home in N.Y.! The house was so clean and we loved the layout - different "levels", staircases, the game room with the coffee nook. The kitchen was so well stocked with anything you could possibly need to cook. We went to Hannafords for a few breakfast & lunch items and opted to eat out for dinner. It was nice that other kitchen items such as salt/pepper/alum foil, etc. were already in the house. We loved lighting the fireplace. The master bedroom had the most comfy mattress (temperpedic?). The owner provided us with very detailed instructions on anything we would need for the house. This place was so amazing, my photos and words don't do it justice. We hope to return again someday.
Response from VrboOwner on 2 Apr 2020
Dear Tony, Thanks to you and your wife for the thoughtful and most complimentary review! We bought our home for those views, and we outfitted it for our comfort and the comfort of our guests. It is nice to have those efforts appreciated! You made me laugh with the views and dishes comment! Thanks also for hooking up the replacement Sonos player. A rental home on the coast always has something needing attention, and we greatly appreciate the help! TheMaids do a great job cleaning the place, as we have year round rentals, that is also true for November. We try to go back every couple months to freshen the place up, and to enjoy the views no matter what time of the year! We replaced the fireplace this past Spring, and it adds a comfy warmth and glow to the living and dining rooms. Like you, we load up at the Hannaford, and try to eat one meal out a day. We love to cook and eat, so the kitchen usually has what we want to use. Please share the photos that you are most proud of, and do come back! Beat regards, Mike and Delinda

A Great Escape

We rented the house for a nice long weekend in May. The property owner, Michael, was extremely helpful and easy to work with. The minute you walk into the house you can tell it has been well cared for. The house was perfect. I didn't need to bring a thing. The kitchen has everything you need, as do the bedrooms and bathrooms-no need to pack linens! All of the bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. The sound system in the house was a nice bonus feature. Then there are the views! Stunning, from sunrise -and yes, I did wake up at 5:30 just to see one- to sunset. We enjoyed afternoons on the deck just watching and listening to the water lapping over the rocks. We arrived early in the season, many of the shops and restaurants were not open during the week. But once the weekend came everything was open in town. Our guests were able to walk down to the shops and bakery as well as the lighthouse park. We would definitely recommend this home. We wished we could have stayed longer!
Response from VrboOwner on 2 Apr 2020
Hi Terri, Thanks for your kind words and lovely review! As you know, we have also rented many homes from vrbo or homeaway. My wife and I got a good sense of what we wanted when we rented, and we have tried to provide it for our guests. First, it is our home, and it is decorated and outfitted as such. Second, all of the photos on the website except for two were taken on the premises. The other two were taken 1200 feet away. The location is a sensual delight of scenic views, the sounds of the waves and the sea gulls, the smell of the ocean, and the ever changing light! Third, while we can't provide everything our guests, we try provide a fun, comfortable, clean place to enjoy. The Sonos sound system is a lot of fun! I'm glad that you enjoyed it, too! Some of the benefits of the shoulder or off season are the lack of crowds, but the sights, sounds, and smells are all still there. I'm glad that you got to enjoy them, too. Thanks again for your recommendation! Please come back, and do stay longer! Best regards, Mike

Stunning attention to details

Yes, the views of the lighthouse and the ocean are truly stunning. But the owners' attention to details made our week especially enjoyable. I can't imagine using all the high-end kitchen equipment in a month, much less a week (we used the Weber gas grill three nights). We only had five people in the house, so we couldn't make full use of all the comfortable spaces available for talk, fun and relaxation. The "family room" has it's own TV, exercise equipment, refrigerators and coffee maker. We preferred to hang out (often playing cards) in the large living room/dining room/kitchen area that has a panoramic view of the rocky coast from Maine to New Hampshire. Outside, we enjoyed examining the life in the tide pools that form in the rocks right outside the house. I can't fit into this review everything we enjoyed about our visit (e.g. Adorondack chairs in the sun on the lawn, walks to the village, Dunn's ice cream), but when Sean called to welcome us, he asked if there was anything we needed. He meant it, but we couldn't think of a thing.

Malcolm, Thank you for all of the kind words. We try and give many options -- in the kitchen, living spaces, beach equipment, etc. I am glad you were able to make use of a few during your stay! Enjoying the views and the sound of the waves against the rocks is never a tough decision :). Thank you for being such wonderful guests and enjoying another year in York! Sean

Amazing Home, Amazing Location

My family and I stayed here for an extended weekend vacation to celebrate my daughter's 16th birthday. The home exceeded our expectations! The gourmet kitchen was fully stocked, the home was extremely clean, modern and well maintained throughout, the beds were very comfortable and the views were breathtaking. Not only did you have the expanse of ocean from every room and right out your door, but you had the Nubble Lighthouse just up the street and in view from your backyard. This home could comfortably accommodate 3 couples, given there were 3 separate "apartments/lofts" that were very private and in their own separate areas. Our teen had a TV room, bathroom and loft bedroom and was in heaven. The first floor "apartment area" could hold another couple and included a large porch overlooking the ocean, and the master bedroom also had its separate space apart from the rest of the house. The location of the home is perfect for day trips into Kittery for the outlets and all other Maine points of attraction. There are also many great restaurants around. The owner, Sean, was extremely helpful and answered all of our questions very quickly. We visited in the dead of winter and enjoyed it so much that we can't wait to experience this beautiful home in the warmer summer months when we plan to return. Overall, a memorable and relaxing time.

This is a magical home and setting.

One becomes a devotee of Nubble Light, sunrises and sunsets at this home that uses its windows as well placed eyes on a very special expanse of the Maine coast. The ocean sound machine at this location is also amazing. We had many things in the area we planned to do, but in the end I tore myself away only briefly to take the two teenagers to Short Sands, and there were necessary grocery shopping trips to the convenient Hannaford Supermarket. (Also, the York Farmers' Market is worth checking out on Saturday mornings for vegetables, locally raised meats and homemade pies.) Some in our family did make the daily five minute trek to Long Sands Beach, but I found I just wanted to be by the sea at this comfortable home. A long-time "Mainiac" friend of ours confirmed that this locale and its views rivals all. As advertized, the dining room table vistas were truly stunning. Furthermore, when I would drive a few minutes inland, it would be crazy hot, but at Mike and Delinda's home the breeze offered constant natural air conditioning. For a mixed generational family the design of the multi-level spaces makes it possible for family members to pursue separate activities, but the communal spaces are welcoming for times of gathering and sharing. Our family shall be warmed all winter long by the memories we made during our week at this very special home.
Response from VrboOwner on 2 Apr 2020
Dear Suanne, Thank you for the thoughtful and well written review! I'm glad that you and your three generations were able to enjoy our home as we do! Thanks for sharing the double rainbow, its symbolism to you, and updates on the surf, from high to low. The sea air, the cry of the gull, the changing light, the range of soft to roaring sound of the waves with an iconic lighthouse on the left, to panoramic ocean, then to a view of Long Sands Beach on the right, still give me pause! There are not many places that have those views, and we are truly blessed, as the photos show! For local foods, My Dad used to shop the roadside stands. The Farmers Markets, it seems like each town has one, make for one stop shopping for true summer delights! I'm impressed that you can make it to Long Sands Beach in 5 minutes! It's about a mile, and takes me 12 - 15 minutes. Thanks too for sharing your warmth, your memories, and for signing up again for next year! Best, Mike

Can't say enough good things about this house! Spectacular Views!!

My two brothers and I booked this house to celebrate our Mother's 90th birthday in mid April. Mike was very detailed and honest in his description of the house, and offered concern that there might be too many steps for Mom to navigate. She was recovering from a broken leg when we got there, so we were glad we had not booked a more ambitious trip. She got around the house fine with a little helping hand. It is laid out so that everyone feels like they have their own space, but the kitchen/living room/dining room are a large, open space to gather comfortably. The views are unbeatable out of almost every window! We had one day with heavy rain and wind gusts to 50 mph, and felt like we had a front row seat to the spectacular ocean waves crashing on the rocks with the lighthouse in the distance. Warm and cozy next to the gas fireplace, we all agreed we couldn't think of a better place to be on a blustery day. The kitchen was well stocked, the house had lots of extra amenities, the beds and pillows were very comfortable, the house was spotlessly clean. And the day the temp was 22 degrees and sleeting we were super excited to have a 2 car garage! Kittery Tading Post and the extensive Outlet Malls are about 15 minutes away (with no traffic). Mike responded promptly to all my texts. If you want to have an extra special vacation this is the house to book!

Dear Margo, Thank you for the lovely review! I love it when families can get together and enjoy each other and what our home has to offer. You and yours certainly did as your review shows. I usually go at least four times a year to freshen the place up and enjoy the seasonal nuances, many of which you enjoyed in the same week! Hunkering down at home or exploring the area, both have a lot to offer. Let me know when you wish to return. Best, Mike

Nubble vacation home outshines them all!

When we arrived in Maine on this hot summer day, we stopped at a favorite place for a lobster roll and our cell phone rang. It was the owner of the house, Mike, who called to tell us he was at the house and was just leaving. We asked him to wait a few minutes so we could meet him. When we pulled into the driveway, he asked us what we thought. I started to sing "heaven, I'm in heaven! What a beautiful house and a magnificent view! I have loved "The Nubble" since I first came to Maine in1969 on our honeymoon. Renting this lovely home afforded me two weeks of a constant view of this landmark. Top of the line appliances, linens, furnishings, and impeccable decorating were a delight. Mike made sure that we felt at home and checked in several times with us to make sure everything was all right. During our stay, many of our relatives came to visit and fell in love with the house and remarked how beautifully it was furnished. Having lived in the area for many years, we were familiar with the area, but Mike suggested several spots of interest we were not familiar with. I can honestly say that this is the best vacation we have ever taken and we were able to share it with our children and grandchildren, who thoroughly enjoyed climbing on the rocks at low tide, Long Sands, Short Sands, and Brown's Ice Cream every night after dinner. Thank you tooth Javoronok family for sharing your lovely home with us! Marie and Dave Miller

Thank you so much for the lovely review! I remember meeting you two that hot summer day, and how happy you were to be back in Maine! While part of me hears, Van Morrison singing, "Oh the warm feeling As we sat beside the sea..." the rest of me was very grateful to have air conditioning! I can visualize you two sitting in the Adirondack chairs taking in the iconic, Maine lighthouse views! We love it when our guests enjoy our home as much as we do! I used to be concerned that with such kind, glowing reviews that others would have such raised expectations that could not possibly be met. Then I realized, paraphrasing my niece, that, if you can't have a good time there, it may well be on you! Every time I go back, I think, "Wow, what stunning views!" Other times, I'll look out and say to myself, "Is that a cormorant?" Some folks have seen a seal on the rocks. Some college geology classes have come just to see the rocks, the Cape Neddick Formation. I love how the light changes from sunlight to moonlight on the water, the cries of the sea gulls, the sound of the waves, the smell of the salt air... Another one of those Billy Crystal moments, "Don't get me started..." You can tell I love the place, too! I also loved your photos of the kids playing wiffle ball in the yard, and the photo of your granddaughter looking out the sunroom window towards the water! Did your son really catch a 42 inch striper from the rocks? I'm so glad that you, your children, and grandchildren had such a good time, and you will be back next year! Thanks again! Mike

Breathtaking place!

Most wonderful week was spent here last July. The house was amazing, large with all the necessary and most wonderful comforts. The view is magnificent from the dining area and throughout the house. The rooms are large and beds quite comfortable. Bathrooms are spotless as is the entire house. The kitchen is extremely well equipped with top notch appliances, china and utensils. Everything has been thought of to make our stay quite wonderful. There are two beaches near by and at walking distance. You have just to watch for the tides at certain hours of the day where the sand area is invaded by the sea but not for quite long. There are perhaps nicer and larger beaches at Wells in about 10/15 mns drive. The place was home away from home, we felt quite comfortable and there was enough space for everyone (we were 8 at some point). There are several bedrooms and two large living rooms both with their own TV and plenty of other equipment for those computer nerds to play with. The description and pictures do not do justice to this house, it is much better than described. The owner was most generous and gracious by sending us by UPS the same day of our arrival, coffee beans from Hawaii, when he found out we were good coffee lovers. We have rented many houses before and this is a first. We loved this house, just sitting outside facing the ocean and listening to the crashing waves on the rocks, looking at the Nubble and just breathing that salty air was a soothing and relaxing feeling and that is what we were looking for. We intend to rent this house now every time we go to Maine. Thank you Michael! Sol Brien and family Candiac, Quebec, Canada

Bon Annee! Merci beaucoup! Que te es tres gentile! J'espere que tu et ta famille reveniras la prochaine ete. I hope I said that right, or at least close, minus the accent marks. Thanks again to Anthony for his suggestions! We have done a number of them: two WiFi signal extenders, two Harmony One remotes, and added the HDMI cable from the XBox 360 Kinect to the HDTV. Warm thoughts for you and your family, Mike

Nubble Vacation Home - Scores a 10!

We love Maine…and had the best vacation EVER! Maybe it's because of our Colby roots but, our family has vacationed in Maine for many years. We've rented beautiful homes in Ogunquit, Kennebunkport and even Bailey Island. Mike & Delinda, your home takes 1st prize! I can't say enough about the great features including the enclosed deck, gorgeous lawn overlooking the rocks and ocean, & open family style kitchen (with all of the amenities!). Waking up to the incredible sunrise peeking up over the horizon at Nubble Lighthouse was just breathtaking. It never got old! Walking down on the rocks to soak in some sun or reading a book in one of the Adirondack chairs was on someone's schedule every day! For a photography amateur, professional, or anywhere in-between…THIS is the place! The location is PERFECT! Walking to Fox's is so easy. Their lobster mac & cheese is a "can't miss"! Brown's Ice Cream is AMAZING and has something for everyone. The best walk early morning or at sunset - Long Sands Beach, to check out the surfers! Ocean views! Ocean views! Ocean Views! Ocean views! Everyone enjoyed having one! Your home had everything, and more. The Sonos system was great! Along with our Shore Dinners at sunset, it provided the perfect background music! Fun family times! We all appreciate you sharing your spectacular coastal home with us. Your attention to detail and thoughtfulness before, during, and after our stay made us feel very special - Thank You!! See You Next Year!! Thanks again!! Kristin, Larry, & Ernestine B Beverly & Peter G Brittany & Tyler R

How kind! We love it when folks enjoy our home as much as we do, and especially if they write to tell about it! There may come a time, some day, when we get tired about hearing such wonderful compliments about our home, but not any time soon. One thing we know is true, and that's confirmation bias! You hit on all the same reasons we bought, fixed up, and enjoy this special place so much! You certainly did partake in full the things to do throughout York, our home, and yard! It's so nice to wake up and have that ocean view from every bedroom, or for that matter every room, except for the first floor 3/4 bath with no windows. Even if we are just being home handy, we love to put the music on through the Sonos system, work, and stop every now and then to take in the natural beauty, smells and sounds. One small clarification, we think you meant the enclosed sun room, for the deck is not enclosed, but a open air, flattened u-shaped wrap around. Thank you also for the photos! We love your shot of the Shore Road lobster buoys with the sunset in the background, and the misty cob webs! We are so glad that you are coming back next year! Thanks again, Mike and Delinda

Great Familiy Fun in Cape Neddick!

We rented the house in March 2015 for a family reunion. The pictures published by the owner are faithful to reality and the site is truly enchanting. We arrived at night, in a snowstorm, and could not see much of anything outside. The view we had at sunrise next morning was breathtaking! The bedrooms are spacious and all have views of the ocean. The game room is awesome and allows the children to play while the grownups can relax in the lounge/dining room; it’s a winning combination for all. Our girls loved the bedroom in the attic. The kitchen is amazing: there is a large island, modern appliances, sharp knives, solid pans and pots. A real gourmet kitchen. Our cook had all he needed and more. We even tried the vacuum machine for marinated meat and it worked like a charm. The BBQ on the balcony worked fine (when it was not too windy!). The only downside was that the gas fireplace was not working during our stay. It would have been nice to have a nice fire going in the evenings. That said, we know the owner is working very hard to have the problem fixed a soon as possible. Michael is a great host. You can see he has made a lot of improvements to the house and wants his guests to have an enjoyable stay. He was friendly and very helpful (even if our English was a little rusty!). In summary, we had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend this property to our friends and relatives. We would also like to see the place in summertime. Maybe we will sneak a peek the next time we travel to Maine… Au revoir! Patrice, Isabelle, Rosalie & Maude Simard Scott, Quebec, CANADA

Dear Patrice, Isabelle, Rosalie, and Maude, Thank you for the kind words, and for sharing the delight you had while staying in our home! We love it when others can see the same things: the beautiful views, the layout of our home to take advantage of those views, the separate living rooms for the children and the adults, and how we have tried to outfit our home. We bought our home for the views. We have remodeled to enhance those views. For example, the dining room has panoramic ocean views, as you well know. Too many times there are places that show photos that have little to do with the place you are renting. We appreciate that, and we have tried to list accurately every photo or description on our website. Thanks also for reciting how you can cook, and feel at home in a our kitchen. You are too modest about your relative's skills, who was actually a chef. We are so glad that he found our home's kitchen well appointed. Maybe next time you can try the Sous Vide? The new fireplace is set for delivery on Friday. Our regrets that we could not get it in sooner. Next time! :-) Please come back! A Bientot? (Sorry no circumflex).

Really don't want to tell others about this house.

Because of a long-time family connection to the area we have rented houses on the ocean from York to Ogunquit many times. Take my word for it and stop looking - this home has everything. Outside - great lawn space and an abundance of ledges to climb on, picnic on, cook hotdogs on and explore. Inside. Every bedroom is a cadilac in a chevrolet world. Comfortable beds, high end bedding and decorated to make you feel at home for your stay. Main living area, kitchen and dining room are a great place to hang out with your family with iconic views. The huge, second living area is a bonus we have NEVER found in another rental on the ocean in this area for this price. From a family standpoint there is a wrap-around deck around the dining room on the ocean side of the house that has no stairs down to the ground MEANING it's a great safe place for small children that works perfectly for our granddaughters. One last thing - the bathrooms. I've paid more than what Mike gets for this house for grand old houses on the coast and the bathrooms were laughably substandard. Every bathroom here has high end tile and fixtures. We met the cleaning staff as we were moving in. Professional ladies who didn't miss a thing. Everything was spotless when we moved in. Did I mention the four large flat screen TV's all over this house to watch Sox games? Did I mention the charming sitting room facing the ocean where you can have your first cup of coffee, read your Bible to get set for you day as you look at God's creation? Did I mention the first thing your family will say when they walk through this house is, "You already got this booked for next year, right Dad"? The only thing I can think of that's missing is a copy of Kenneth Robert's BOONE ISLAND, (a must read) but my guess is Mike has a copy here somewhere or the last guest took it with them. Mike, thanks for obviously working hard to make sure every guest has an unforgettable time while staying here and wants for nothing.

Thank you Mark for such a well written, comprehensive, thoughtful review! When we traveled, the places that we enjoyed most were people's homes that they rented, rather than places that were outfitted as rentals. My wife and I tried to outfit our home as just that, our home. We are so glad that you appreciated and liked what we did! You are also right, the "iconic view" is the main reason we bought this place! The home came with it, and we decorated the inside to our taste. About three years ago, one Sunday morning, we heard a helicopter circulating overhead. We went out to see what was going on, and walked over by the lighthouse. They were filming for the movie, "Hope Springs." They chose the same view that we have for the movie's iconic view of the Maine Coast. The movie's view of the area homes started with our neighbor's garage. One point of clarification, we have three televisions, two of which are flat screen, unless your son hooked up the fourth, an extra monitor. Please do come back! Best, Mike

My father's family went to York Beach for summers for over 50 years. I grew up and still live in Nebraska but both sides of my family are from the East coast and most still reside in New England. We have enjoyed visiting the beach and reuniting with family at the house since we bought it and even before that. Now we use it as a good excuse to travel East and a comfortable place to have family and friends.

Why they chose this property

My father's words:

My family started going to York when I was 4 years old. I spent many summers in York: surfing and working at the Oceanside Store. What surprised me is that my wife, Delinda, wanted us to return there, eventually to retire. I have a photo of Nubble Light and a rainbow that I took from the deck. Everytime I look at that photo, I think of Wordsworth:
MY heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began,
So is it now I am a man,
So be it when I shall grow old 5
Or let me die!
The child is father of the man:
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.

Above you can see a rainbow that Alyssa DiRubbo took that was even better than mine!

Edward Weston described his career in photography as his love affair with light. Every time I go back, Weston, also, comes to mind. Each time, I see something different, sometimes new. Even as I do my DIY homeowner things, sometimes, I will just stop to take in the wonders around me. The changing light, weather, sights, smells, and sounds make our home on the Nubble a multi-sensory delight for those who take the time to partake of them. We hope that you will feel that way, too.
We bought this home as it has one of the most spectacular views that I have ever seen! We and some our guests who shared their photos have tried to capture some of that sense of wonder and place. The views are remarkable all year, not just in the summer. We enjoy the fall colors; the Christmas lights on the Nubble; the clean starkness of the snow, the rebirth that is Spring, and the ocean smells and sounds of summer when we open the windows more. Mike Blanchette took some of the shots for our website. What will you shoot?

What makes this property unique

As mentioned, every room has an ocean view, half the rooms have a lighthouse view. There are five levels to allow space together or away. For example, the living room, dining room, and kitchen are open to each other. The dining room has a panoramic ocean view, with the lighthouse on the left. The kitchen has black granite countertops, cherry cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and it is well outfitted to suit most needs of those who cook. There is a five burner gas stove. The appliances are mostly Breville or Cuisinart.
There is a separate game/living room with an Xbox One. The first floor sunroom and the deck are other away spaces. In good weather or bad, it is a place to relax and enjoy.
