Kentucky Gem ~ Rooftop Deck + Easy Walk to Stadiums, The Banks, and Downtown
(When you click on the photos in this listing, captions/descriptions will appear. Voila! Know, too, that there is a nightly discount for stays of four nights or longer. Just ask!)
This spacious urban dwelling is steeped in history, as is our charming and entirely f-l-a-t + walkable neighborhood. The home dates to the 1860s when it was likely built to house craftsmen involved in the building of the architecturally significant Roebling Suspension Bridge, the prototype for The Brooklyn Bridge. It is thought that John Roebling himself might have designed this property.
In 2007: top-to-bottom, wall-to-wall renovations resulted in '2008 River Cities Preservation' and '2008 Friends of Covington Beautification' awards. A three story 'flying' staircase, scale, contemporary upgrades and location yield both character and comfort. Here, history and modernity are not to be confused with rigidity: put your feet up and bring your dog! There's a decidedly down-home feel with an up-town vibe.
Truly a handsome and affordably priced alternative for Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky business travellers -- or -- for regionally-inclined tourists and vacationing families. Ideally suited for small-scale meetings and entertaining, too.
Bounded to the north by the Ohio River, Cincinnati is a quick two blocks and a bridge (yes: that one!) away, as are Great American Ball Park, Paul Brown Stadium, US Bank Arena -- and -- Queen City culture, entertainment, retail and cuisine. Fine and home-style dining, indie coffee houses (2 + a Starbucks), shopping and multiple entertainment options are also available just outside the door. Lexington and Louisville are each roughly (and Bluegrass scenic) 90 minutes away.
While most everything is within walking distance, two dedicated, off-street parking spaces are provided. As well, a "Red Bike" station -- and -- a retro-fitted trolley* stop (*that traverses Covington and Newport KY, and Cincinnati) are a block away. For full immersion in Kentucky's fabled horsiness, a livery across the street operates horse-drawn carriages most weekends and some week nights, using much the same routes.
Or, stay home and make good use of the roof deck with its panoramic views of the Cincinnati skyline and surrounding hillsides, the sunset-spilled den, and/or the jetted tub.

About the host
Hosted by Lisa Mullins
One sister uses this property as her home away from her Washington, DC home whenever she opts to unleash upon us yokels her cranky little terrier and two 'lively' Tween and Teen kids. Living just a few doors away from said property ... and the aforementioned terrier/niece/nephew trifecta: this aunt -- in need of respite! -- is more than happy to extend top-notch hospitality to non-relatives.
Why they chose this property
Listed on The National Register of Historic Places in 1971, Covington KY's Historic Licking Riverside Neighborhood has long been one of the premier historic districts in Greater Cincinnati, and was recognized by The American Planning Association as 'A 2013 Great Place in America.' ( 1 of 10). And Cincinnati -- 'The Queen City' -- is cosmopolitan and cozy at the same time, and just a stone's throw away.
What makes this property unique
Location, History, Ambience, Comfort, View, and 'ThisClose' Proximity to Cincinnati, and Multiple Dining, Cultural + Entertainment, Big 'n Small Retail, a Terrific Riverfront Park, and Sporting Destinations. Walkable + ease of access to "Red Bike" rentals and Trolley. Dedicated off-street parking.
Sports Peeps ~ Both stadiums are well-less than a mile + a 'festive' (Go Reds!) -- or -- a 'raucous' (Who Dey!) walk/trolley ride ($1 per person/runs every 15 minutes) away. Tailgating begins at our corner. Indians'/Browns' and Pirates'/Steelers' fans: Prepare for Good-Natured Ribbing en route ...
