Charming Rustic Cottage

Charming rustic cottage located a short distance off South Rd just past Abels Hill in Chilmark. Chilmark is very rual with rolling hills and stone walls. Water views from upper deck. Access to Lucy Vincent beach a mile down South Road and Squibnocket beach by purchasing stickers at town hall.The sound of sheep during the day and the ocean waves at night is very soothing. Views of the night sky can be wonderful since there is no light pollution. A short walk up our road there are scenic and wooded Landbank trails.

Fantastic MV vacation for this family.

Everything was perfect for our Chilmark get away. The location and peaceful setting was unbelievable. The house was very clean, plenty of fans and a beautiful Vineyard breeze to keep you cool in July and so much space inside and out. The best beach about a mile away, walking trails just up the dirt road and privacy. The owners gave us perfect recommendations and have created an amazing property to visit! We are hoping to return as soon as we can!

A Perfect Haven

We had a fantastic stay at Polly's house. It is a bit of paradise on MV. If you like rural charm, beautiful beaches and quiet relaxation, this is the place for you. We visited every part of the island and each time, one of the four of us would say, "I am so glad to be returning to our secluded spot in Chilmark. Polly is super chill and easy to communicate with. Total relaxation!

Chilmark beauty. Location, location, location.

Absolute perfect location. Water views from the upper deck and close to Lucy Vincent beach. Craig & Polly are so nice and helpful if you need anything. One previous tenant left the gas on in the grill and Craig let us use his for the entire week. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you need. This is our third year in a row we have come and hope to continue for a long time. This place is really a piece of heaven.

Wonderful week on beautiful property in fantastic location

The rustic house is clean, charming, warm, and inviting. The deck view to the ocean is peaceful and lovely. The location is fantastic for exploring all up island Vineyard spots -- as hikers, swimmers, beach goers, and bikers, this was ideal for us, since we like to avoid going into the crowded towns in summer. Polly and Craig were extremely friendly, hospitable, and helpful. All in all a wonderful place!

Restful Retreat in Chilmark

Our family of 5 enjoyed a wonderful, and all too short, visit to Martha's Vineyard recently, when we had the great pleasure to meet Polly and Craig and stay in their cozy cottage. What you can't tell from the pictures is how light and bright the upstairs is due to the windows everywhere, the big, plate glass sliding doors to the 2nd floor deck, and high, vaulted ceilings. The cottage was very clean, well equipped with everything we needed from kitchen supplies (and appliances) to ample, high quality bath towels and boogie boards to boot! Our children, ages 11 and 12, enjoyed the hammock on the lower deck, and having a beautiful garden behind the house. We all loved having an ocean view, and the proximity to Lucy Vincent beach, our favorite. Though the fact that it was just a short drive to the Great Rock was also a huge plus, as was the beautiful walking trail in an "Enchanted Forest" type of setting that was just a short walk away! We recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a lovely retreat in a great location.

Chillin' in Chilmark

My husband and I are happy we found this lovely Chilmark cottage. It combines "rustic" charm with all of the conveniences and comforts of a modern home thanks to owners Polly and Craig—who are most hospitable and extremely nice. The cottage truly showcases a labor of love and craftsmanship. It is well maintained and offers many amenities—so you need only bring along clothing and food. The airy house features two decks with ocean views and lots of natural light. The house was already a great place when we rented it two years ago, but since our last visit, they have installed windows on the second level, beautiful African mahogany flooring and pine paneling, and new gardens with tall grasses and perennials. Added natural benefits include the breeze of warm summer winds; the nearby sound of crashing waves; and the crow of a neighbor rooster. Located on the upside of South Road, it’s easy to access our favorite Lucy Vincent and Squibnocket beaches, Alley’s General Store, Larsen’s Fish Market, and Cronig’s—yet it feels very far away from the bustle of summer crowds, the busy main roadways, and the hustle of city life! We can't wait to come back!

Ideal Vacation Rental in Lovely Chilmark

Our family of four, two adults/two kids spent the latter half of July in this cottage. The term "cottage" doesn't really do the house justice as as had every amenity we are used to at home. Craig is a former hotelier in Florida and it shows - the house and grounds are impeccably kept, the decor inside tasteful. We basically ceded the upstairs space to the kids and slept in the cozy downstairs bedroom. We used the grill on most nights to prepare fresh fish from Menemsha and ate on either the lower or upper deck out back. There are water views from both. The Vineyard's most beautiful beaches are a short drive away as is the Chilmark library and community center where there are a range of programs for kids and adults. Chilmark is so very relaxing that you may never need to travel to other island locations during your entire trip. This house will provide you a most homey base for your Martha's Vineyard vacation, whatever you seek. We look forward to staying here again next year and to seeing Polly and Craig.

What a treasure!

I just had the most wonderful week out at this cottage with my kids. I really couldn't tell from the photos how rustic of a situation I was getting into, and was so delighted when we arrived. Polly and Craig were right nearby for anything I needed, and they took great care of us. Beautiful yard, comfy hammock, decks upstairs and down for lounging, eating, and sunsets (and moonrises). The indoor shower space is ready for an update, but the outside one was great. We will be back, and I am calling dibs on the same week again so I can breathe in the wild roses the island was wrapped in. Glorious.
