Hi and welcome to The Little Gray Cabin!
We're very glad you'll soon be arriving, and we are very humbled you've chosen our family home to create some fabulous Lake Tahoe memories!
Now for the arrival and departure stuff.
ARRIVAL:
A lock box behind the silver bucket on the front porch adjacent to the front door holds the key. The combination is XXXX
WINTER-SEASON WATER DETAILS:
The cold temperatures during the winter require the water to be turned on upon arrival and turned off upon departure.
This is accomplished with a quick turn of a floor-mounted handled underneath the kitchen dining booth. It takes just a quarter turn of the handle. When the water is on you will hear the pipes activate and water will begin immediately flowing from the faucets.
HEATING :
The thermostat is mounted on the short stairwell wall adjacent to the TV. This controls the gas floor furnace in the entry. Please make yourself comfortable and thank you for turning the heat down when outside enjoying the beautiful surroundings. It's very helpful to simultaneously turn on the ceiling fan. The heat (that has a tendency to rise up into the loft) is pulled down and better circulates in the downstairs area. The control knob for the fan is next to the wall-mounted coat rack.
Additionally, there are two heater fans that also pull down and circulate heat into the downstairs bedroom and kitchen. One knob is on the wall to the right side of the refrigerator. One knob is on the wall to the right side of the washer/dryer closet.
During Winter it's also helpful to keep the bathroom door closed and keep the bedroom door open for circulation benefits.
Please ignore BOTH the thermostat in the downstairs bedroom by the small, iron coat rack AND the small wall-mounted heater below the bedroom window. These have been deactivated for safety reasons.
If the wood burning stove is used please DO NOT clean out hot ashes. Housekeeping will handle.
VERY IMPORTANT....DO NOT LEAVE ANY CLOTHING, FOOTWEAR OR TOWELS NEARTHE FLOOR FURNACE. IF SOMETHING FALLS AND IS UNATTENDED A FIRE IS A SURE BET. PLEASE ALSO KEEP LITTLE BARE FEET AWAY FROM THE FLOOR FURNACE GRILL :)
OTHER STUFF
Backing into the driveway is easier and safer when exiting. A private plow service routinely and automatically services the driveway. The County maintains neighborhood streets.
The snow shovel can be used for any small berms needing removal. A small canister of "ice melt" is also available and can be sprinkled by hand like birdseed on the front door path if snow is anticipated or snow is actually coming down to help with slipping or sliding.
SEASONAL THINGS TO DO:
MOVIES AND FUN
Theatres in Incline, Tahoe City (Cobblestone) and Northstar Village.
Might want to take a drive to the Northstar Village...kind of like a little Aspen. Shops, bars, skating rink. If you're up for a drive to Squaw Valley the day could be incredible. Take the gondola to the top of the mountain and have lunch while watching folks ice skate. It's like being in Austria up there.
King' Beach...Mini golf, beaches, golf, watersports +++
Incline... Bowling, golf, pool tables, beaches, Diamond Peak Ski Resort
Carnelian Bay...Mini-golf, beaches, SUP i
Northstar...skiing, Northstar Village shopping and dining, golf
WINTER:
Cross-Country, Hiking, Snow Shoeing Trails and Sledding Hill...
There is a great hiking/snow shoe trail you can get to without a car.
Go out the front door and turn right when at the top of the driveway. Go right at the first street. It's called Pino. This street dead ends in an approximate length equaling a city block or two. You'll see a small frozen creek. On the other side of this creek you'll see a trail that goes back up into the mountain. Very nice trail only used by locals.
There is also a formal trail at the North Tahoe Regional Park. This too is very close but requires a short car drive. Here you can find hiking trails and a fun sledding hill.
Go back out on to the main lake road.
Go right at the lake.
Take the second right on to National Ave.
At the end of this road you'll see the park entrance.
Nearby Ski Resorts Include: Northstar, Incline and Mt. Rose

Please place all garbage in the metal bear box at the top of driveway. The garbage service comes very early each Tuesday morning. PLEASE DO NOT leave any garbage outside. The notices and warnings about bears tearing into open garbage are true.
