Perfect location for visiting Redwood Forrest National/State Park. Close to a grocery store with a full stocked kitchen, a chance to not eat out on the family road trip. Plenty of space for family time.
The Fern House is a wonderful house to stay in. The house was very in clean, in a great location and the host was very responsive. I look forward to staying here again when coming to the area.
This home was perfect for our trip. The fern theme was adorable and the yard gorgeous. We were very grateful that there were extra towels provided since we had no space to pack them but looking forward to spending some time at the beach. The coffee and tea bar was great and so convenient. Wish we could've stayed for longer!
We absolutely loved our family getaway at the Fern House! This home is a perfect location if you love hiking in the redwoods and going to the beach, and still within 10 minutes of town to shop and eat! We loved Lady bird Johnson trail, Fern Canyon, the Big Foot shop and Land of the Giants! This home was super family friendly from the rooms to backyard, and kitchen which makes it easier traveling with kiddos! Some of our favorite parts of the home were the coffee bar, and we loved cozying up around the fire pit at the end of the night. Super easy checkin/ out process, the hosts are very responsive. We will be returning!
Our family (2 adults, 3 kids) had a fantastic stay at the Fern House. The house was spotlessly clean, well stocked with all the essentials and several bonuses, and the location allowed us to explore all around Humboldt County and Redwoods State and National Parks easily. The tide pools at Sue-Meg State Park were a favorite of our kids (10y, 12y, 14y). We all loved Fern Canyon and Clintonia Trail in the Gold Bluffs Beach area. Sunset just up the road at Clam Beach County Park was amazing and easy to access.
At Fern House, we loved the coffee station, the small cooler provided for day trips, and the gorgeous porch and gardens. The two living rooms made it easy for everyone to have enough space to spread out and unwind after long days of exploring. The front porch was fantastic for enjoying a drink in the evening or putting on shoes to head out in the morning. We also had a great time finding the tiny frogs (and not so tiny slugs!) throughout the garden in the early mornings and evenings.
The hosts were easy to contact and responded very quickly to our few questions during our stay. Check in and check out were both simple and well communicated. If we were in the area again, we would definitely return to the Fern House!
My family took a road trip to see the redwoods. This house in McKinleyville was the perfect place to rest. The house was clean, comfortable and suited our families needs perfectly.
The host was quick to respond with questions that we had and we were very happy with our stay.

About the host
Hosted by Jesiah Meng
My husband and I both grew up in Mckinleyville and now reside in the Bay Area. We purchased the Fern house so that we can have a place to stay when visiting our family and enjoying the nature near by. We have traveled a lot and prefer to stay in vacation rentals over hotels so we want to provide a safe and comfortable place for people to stay when they visit the beautiful North Coast.
Why they chose this property
This home is special to us as it belonged to our Grandparents. Since we bought the home we have updated the inside and out to make it feel modern but cozy.
What makes this property unique
The home is in a neighborhood but because it is on a gated flag lot, the property feels very private. The home is close to many amenities but still has that private feeling that we love.
