About the host

Host profile image
Born in California in the 1960s, I served over 20 years in the Marine Corps before retiring in Orange County. My favorite song in high school was "Stairway to Heaven" and I still enjoy riding my Harley in my free time.

My wife and I recently purchased our first Airbnb property in Big Bear City. We aimed to create a welcoming retreat for guests that feels like home. Outside of hosting, I spend a lot of time socializing and value time with family and friends.

Though I may spend too much time chatting, I do speak both English and Spanish.

Our Gambrel-style home is designed to be a cozy space for you to unwind, reconnect and create memories. When you stay with us, you can expect a hot cup of coffee to start your morning. We look forward to welcoming you!

Why they chose this property

Big Bear Lake sits at 6,700 feet in the San Bernardino Mountains -- just 2 hours from Los Angeles, but a world away. In spring and summer, the area comes alive with hiking and biking trails through tall pines, kayaking and paddleboarding on the lake, and warm evenings in The Village with local dining and shops. Families love the Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain, the Big Bear Alpine Zoo, and Gold Rush Mining for the kids. The mountain air is crisp, the pace is slow, and the scenery is the kind that makes you forget you ever had a to-do list.

What makes this property unique

Papa Bear Den stands out for three reasons most Big Bear cabins can't match: central A/C and heat (rare at this elevation), a fully fenced backyard with a gas fire pit and BBQ grill, and driveway space for trailers and boats. The Gambrel-style cabin sleeps 8 comfortably with a king, queen, bunk room, and foldaway twin -- making it ideal for families and groups who want room to spread out. Add fast Wi-Fi, smart TVs in every bedroom, an in-home washer/dryer, and a front porch surrounded by tall pines, and you have a cabin that feels like a real home away from home -- not just a place to sleep between adventures.
