Explore all the Smokies has to offer in this one-of-a-kind escape surrounded by the natural beauty of slate, wood, water & stars. Welcome to Slate Crossing - a 1.5 story vintage-inspired geodesic dome nestled in Wanderlust Woods.
Only 5 mi from the best rafting & zip lining in the area & 25 min to Gatlinburg, the secluded 10 acre property hosts a flowing creek, mountain views, & plenty of space to wander––perfect for all seeking the glory of the mountains without the typical log cabin decor.
If you need anything, cohost Jamey is just a phone call away (check out 3000+ 5-star reviews). We are more than happy to answer questions or offer help if you need it. Just message or call and we'll either send someone by or handle any concerns personally.
Wanderlust Woods is located in Cocke County Tennessee near the towns of Cosby and Hartford, 10 minutes from the Interstate and is situated very near the boundary of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The natural beauty of the area is unparalleled with views of the Smokies at almost every turn. Hiking, fishing, tubing, white water rafting, and ziplining are all within a 10 mile radius of the property. Gatlinburg, TN is a 25 minute drive and Asheville, NC is just over an hour, offering guests options for fun day trips in the area.
You’re welcome to explore our 10 acres of property including 900 ft of creek frontage, a hiking trail to the ridge, and mountain views. We ask that you do not enter any other of our glamping spots. No one else has access to your dome.
The main level of the dome consists of two cozy bedrooms, a living room with a sofa, comfy chair & coffee table, smart TV and an entire wall of windows that look out onto the perennial flowing creek. Additionally, you'll find a table that seats 6, fully-equipped kitchen and bathroom with vanity, flushing toilet, and hot shower. Upstairs in a loft space there is room for two more full-sized beds for a recommended capacity of up to 6 guests.
The story continues outside with a creekside covered slate-lined deck that you’ll never want to leave, rain or shine. There you’ll find hammock chairs, 4 folding chairs, bar with 4 stools, gas grill, and a cast iron fire stove (firewood provided) to keep you toasty in the cold. It’s elevated camping with the comforts of home.
Our address is 910 Windy Hill Way, Cosby, TN 37722 but we have found GPS sometimes falls short as you get close. There are many possible routes to get to Wanderlust Woods, some of which are one-lane roads that we do not recommend.
Due to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, we suggest that you access our property from US-321 / TN-32 (aka E. Parkway from Gatlinburg).
If coming from I-40, take exit 435 onto TN-32 S. In 5.5 miles turn right onto US-321 S and then left to stay on 321 S. Continue straight for almost 10 miles when you will turn left on Trail Hollow Road (there is a sign for Chestnut Baptist Church on this corner).
Follow Trail Hollow Road for about 1 mile and turn left onto Phillips Road. (Be mindful that Trail Hollow Road makes a sharp, 90 degree left turn, about half way to Phillips Road.) Once you turn onto Phillips Road you will pass a house on your right. Take the first right onto Windy Hill Way. This is our road. You will pass two neighbors' driveways on the left and go all the way to the end where you will see our large wooden sign and Wanderlust Woods is just over the bridge.
You will also want to take a look at the Guide with your check-in instructions for how to access your glamping spot (after filling out the pre-arrival form)
We don’t have great cell reception at the property, so make sure you screenshot the directions and check in instructions ahead of time or log into our Wi-Fi when you get to the bridge. You can set up Wi-Fi calling on your phones in order to stay in touch with family and friends while you’re glamping.
We will offer directions that avoid the worst roads but you will encounter gravel and a few ruts coming into the property. Any vehicle can make it fine when taking it slow but a larger vehicle with higher clearance is preferred. Only in winter when there is snow and ice is 4wd required.
We provide coffee, creamer, sugar, snacks, plus all the bedding, towels, soap, TP, etc that you’ll need for your stay.
The Cosby entrance to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park is 3 mi in one direction, rafting on the Pigeon River is 3 mi in another direction, and we can show you some beautiful fishing spots for bass & trout less than 3 miles from our place.
Guests are required to complete our pre-arrival process including a photo of a valid ID, signing our rental conditions, and submitting a valid credit or debit card to be pre-approved for a security deposit (card will not be charged just authorized in case of damage or rule violation). This process needs to be completed before check-in.

We had a wonderful stay! The dome was so cozy and had everything we needed. The temps dropped drastically Saturday night but we stayed nice and warm!

A Great Weekend in the Mountains
There is our second year staying at Wunderlust Woods. We stayed at Moonshine Hollow dome the first year and at Slate Crossing this year. We loved the stove and hammocks that are in the outdoor space under the dome. It was great for smores and relaxing while listening to the sounds of the creek in the evening. The host and instructions for arrival were excellent both years.
We had a great time at Slate Crossing!Host was very responsive with our questions. The dome was very clean and fully stocked with everything in the listing. We are already checking dates to return!
We had a great time. This place is right on the creek, the directions were easy to follow to find the place with signs when you get closer. It was clean, I will say the “windows” aren’t clear and you can’t see out of them as we were hoping. Besides that we would be back and loved the place and the area! Beautiful property!
this is great glamping dome. it is very roomy on the inisde. overall we really enjoy our stay. just a recommendation . that is they need to have a better heater system for the winter. need more sealants on the property to repel insects from entering. i would definitely book my stay here again and would try the summer time.
A clean little property that has a very unique and interesting setup that would be great in the summer time with the near-by creek. Hosts were extremely responsive, understandings, and friendly. Not as toddler friendly as we would’ve liked, but that’s probably more our fault being inexperienced at traveling with little ones lol (first trip and under 2 years old.) Overall, a great choice for anyone who wants something different from the usual stay and loves the outdoors!
What more can I say… One of the best family vacations we’ve ever had because of the uniqueness of this property, and the ability to “glamp” and get away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas. Location was awesome, and the dome had all the modern amenities needed as well, while still being in the middle of nature, and not a concrete jungle. Not only were we in close proximity to all the great hiking trails in the great smoky mountains, but right at the site, basically right under our dome, was the ability to get away from it all and sit in the foothills of the smoky mountains by a fresh mountain stream! I highly, highly recommend this accommodation, and the attentive and conscientious hosts only added to the wonderful experience. All of it was incredible!

The Dome!
My kids loved their stay at the Dome. Beautiful setting, and a very unique experience (we didn’t want to be at another crowded hotel in another crowded area). Thanks for a fun adventure!
