About this property

27 Riverfront Acres of Serene Mountain Views - Dog and Kid paradise!

Vacation at this secluded property offered by All Get Out Vacation Rentals!

Enjoy your own private beach with no other houses in sight. Open meadows, trees, river and stream -- this secluded yet accessible cabin has it all. Warm and welcoming three bedroom, 2 full baths, sun porch, open kitchen with modern appliances, gas grill, outdoor fire-pit, and fine furnishings throughout.

Listen to the sound of the babbling brook within 50 feet of the house while lounging in the sunroom or relaxing on the deck. In addition, the property has 27 acres of private beach access to the Shavers fork river. The house is engulfed in a narrow band of trees and surrounded by meadows and glades for walks (bring long pants and socks to explore). It is also situated just 1/4 mile upstream from the one-million acre Monongahela National Forest.

The house features natural wood-plank paneling and a well-appointed kitchen, Wi-Fi, television with satellite TV and DVD player, and a stereo/home theater system. The kitchen is open to the dining area, perfect for social cooking. The sunroom has seating for dining or board games with a full view of the stream so you can enjoy the outdoors even in inclement weather.

This cozy ground-level home sleeps 8 in beds. There is a MBR w/ Queen; BR #2 w/ Queen, BR #3 w/ two sets of Twin bunks, and Livingroom w/ Queen pull-out sofa.

For fall or early spring visits, the house features electric heat and a wood-stove (a modest amount of firewood is included in the rental fee). There is a window unit A/C in each of the three bedrooms and the living room, and ceiling fans in each of the queen bedrooms and the living room.

In winter months, be prepared for snowy and/or icy road conditions by driving a 4WD or suitable vehicle. It's advisable whenever driving in wintry conditions in the mountains of WV to be prepared with chains as the roads are often hazardous. At times the snow can be deep and it takes 24-48 hours before it is plowed, therefore you should be flexible about travel.

The cabin is remote, so even in clear weather its narrow mountain gravel road can be concerning to those not experienced. Depending on whether the road crew has done repairs recently, there may be potholes. In most cases you can drive around them, but there may be a few on the way that you’ll just need to slowly drive through. There are also no guardrails on the road, but it has several turnouts to allow cars to pass. The gravel is not suitable for street motorcycles, we've been told.

Please be aware of the close proximity of the stream to decide if the risk is too great for your toddlers or other children who might leave the house unsupervised. Our other Vrbo listing #317752 has a larger land buffer between the house and the moving water.

The river is about a 5 minute walk across the property from the house. There is absolutely no vehicular traffic allowed off the driveway.

Pet friendly, but only if arrangements are made and the pet fee is paid. Dogs only please, and no more than two dogs per reservation.

Owners provide a starter quantity of paper products, bathroom soap, and laundry/dish detergent. Personal toiletries are to be provided by Guests.

If you are looking for a remote mountain getaway and are willing to roll with what comes from a country vacation, you will be hard pressed to find a more beautiful spot!

Because the house is surrounded by forests, the creek, and the river, there is plenty of nature to enjoy but also to endure. Mice will occasionally come inside, and although we set hidden traps to keep them from settling in, there is a possibility that you will see them during your stay depending on whether they've found a food source recently (it could be from a prior guest -- not your own doing.) We do, however, check to make sure that the kitchen implements are sanitary at the beginning of your stay.

The bug situation is that we are at a high enough elevation to not have a mosquito problem, but there will be gnats in the field, and moths at night wanting to get into the house. There will also be plenty of dead bugs that wedge themselves between the screens and the windows.

If these aspects of nature are acceptable to you, then you will find a beautiful place of nature in which to relax and enjoy your vacation!

The property was perfect to relax and unwind. Clean, private, and in a beautiful location. The kitchen was great to cook in, the bathrooms were beautiful, and the owner is an excellent artist! I would definitely recommend to anyone looking to escape to the WV mountains.

Great set up for a small house. Extra enclosed porch on back , beside hot tub. Only problem was, the hot tub would only heat to 99. Not really hot, but beautiful wooded setting. Don't let the road scare you. Pup loved the river walk and being off leash the whole time, since it is a secluded spot.

Stay was great, House was very clean, some brightening/additional lighting on the inside would be welcome but for a cabin on the edge of woods, in the mountains it was just what we were looking for.The property was amazing and Shaver’s Fork offered endless breathtaking views!Close enough to some local amenities and all the hiking hot spots (Blackwater falls, Seneca Rocks etc) but far enough out to feel secluded from the hustle of everyday life.Would absolutely stay again

Quiet, Peaceful and Beautiful

Spacious property, lots of walking opportunities. Our son fished, daughter and son-in-law splashed in the river. We sat by the creek and played our ukuleles and sang old time tunes. The house had everything we needed for cooking, showers, laundry and relaxing.

Wonderful Property

Unplugging from regular life for a week was great, nephew (age 7) went through withdrawl from the internet though. So many places to go hiking we were busy all the time. Going to town for groceries wasn't bad! The river was a bit cool for swimming, but was a grand adventure regardless. Definitely recommend!

We finally found it

After 2 hours of trying to locate with written directions, no satellite or cell for use and a downed tree over the road we finally arrived to a nice little spot. The written driving directions were not very clear and precise. Had to call emergency number for verbal directions. Lots of wildlife, sound of river in back nice but could not see due to overgrowth. Cannot fish there too much shrubbery. Home is well stocked. One bathroom is excellent (shower) other is very small and hard to shower in if you are a big person. Furniture is not comfortable in living room. Large property to explore in good location. Not much to do in Elkins. If you like outdoors and doing outdoor activities during the day it the area is nice.

We had a great time at this private river oasis, we took our dogs to the river two of the 3 days we stayed and enjoyed everything nature had to offer. We had a storm roll in one of the nights so we stayed in and enjoyed a movie and cooked dinner in the well maintained kitchen. Enjoyed coffee in the sunroom every morning and got to watch wild life come by to join us. Overall we had a blast and got to get away from the city limits for a couple days. Highly recommended it for families and pets!

Country cabin, old but well-kept and maintained. The road to get there was hazardous, but well worth the trip if you are looking for solitude and communing with nature. Our springer doodle dog loved romping in the meadows and swimming in the river. Our grand kids, daughter and son-in-law enjoyed wading and swimming in the river. My husband and I enjoyed our walks on the expansive property, Gandy Dancer Theater, Stuarts Recreational Area, and Blackwater Falls State Park.

Quiet Retreat

My husband and I stayed with our two dogs. We enjoyed walking the property and even the water out back. The drive to the cabin was very curvy and we were pretty far off from town. We even saw 2 baby black bear cubs! The cabin came equipped with everything we needed.

Rainy week!

It rained 5 days out of 7, but we still visited New River Gorge, Smoke Hole Caverns, Blackwater Falls, Seneca Rocks, Green Banks Telescope, Davis and did various hikes nearby. The only thing the rain prevented was swimming in the river, but we were able to wade and let the dogs splash around on the last day. The description of the house and driveway is very accurate and communication with the owner was easy. Would definitely recommend!

Secluded getaway

Really great time. Our goal was to do nothing in the middle of nowhere and we did just that. The location is secluded and remote. Cell service is sketchy. Tv did not have streaming ability or the ability to mirror from your phone so if you want to watch movies being dvd’s. I wanted to read anyway. The hot tub was great. Perfect actually. Stargazing was exceptional. Couldn’t have been more quiet. If you’re looking for a secluded getaway in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, this is the place for you.

Great Creekside Stay in the Mountains

Our family had a fabulous time relaxing in the cabin. We enjoyed walking around on the property and taking the hike suggested in the guidebook. The hot tub was a nice treat in the drizzling spring rain. I would suggest bringing a favorite DVD for family movie time as the wifi was spotty. Great trip

Great Escape for Spring Break

House & property described to a tee! Our son is a student athlete at D&E and was unable to leave for spring break so we went to him. It was exactly what we expected. WV experienced all four seasons in one week. It made our stay even better. We walked the river on the warm days, admired the sleet, hail and snow on the others. Enjoyed the hot tub & the heated bathroom floors. Will come back for some kayaking in the summer. Loved it! Ohhhh and the beds are comfy! Thank you!

Weekend Getaway

This was a great place to relax and soak up nature's beauty. There was plenty of room for my family of 6 plus our fur babies. Our favorite part was the river. We spent several hours there exploring and letting the dogs swim. It was so peaceful just listening to the water. The host was excellent with communication.

Peaceful Getaway

We had a magical time at this beautiful property. We have vacationed in this area for over 10 years and rented a number of different places and this was definitely one of my favorites. The listing touts how perfect it is for families with kids and dogs, and I am sure it is. But it is also perfect for anyone who just loves the natural beauty of this part of WV and wants to experience it with peace and privacy. I spent the week roaming all over the property discovering the abundance of wildlife and beauty. Special highlights were morning coffee in the front yard (the wi-fi works close to the front porch) watching the deer in the foggy meadow. Including two spotted fawns, and a young buck who liked to snort and stamp his hooves at us! Also going outside at dusk to watch the meadows fill up with hundreds of fireflies. And sitting by the Shavers Fork for hours, reading and quietly observing nature all around us. Seeing wild turkeys (13!) was a special treat. It is a birders paradise. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Bed was comfortable, water pressure was good, well water tasted great, kitchen is well provisioned, and it was simply magical having that many acres of field, forest and riverbank all to ourselves. We already can't wait to come back! Thank you!

Carl and Larisa got married and moved to Elkins, WV in 2000. Larisa moved from DC, and Carl moved from VA. Each had prior roots in WV and longed to return.

Why they chose this property

The location is ideal -- just far enough out to be immersed in the natural surroundings, but only 25 minutes from a full-service grocery store, movie theater, Davis and Elkins College, Randolph County Community Arts Center, antique shopping, and a YMCA. It is an hour from highly-rated golf or skiing. Spring and summer bring wonderful fishing, swimming, floating, and boating in the river; winter is great for cross-country skiing on the property or nearby, and alpine skiing is less than an hour's drive. Fall's foliage is not to be missed as the house is engulfed in trees and adjacent to the 1 million acre Monogahela National Forest, wonderful for hiking right out your door. Don't miss nearby Elkins to dine at a variety of restaurants, enjoy free exhibits at the Community Arts Center, and ride the scenic trains on the Durbin and Greenbrier Railroad. Davis and Elkins College is just 20 minutes away where you can enjoy live music and Appalachian arts at the internationally renowned 5-week long Augusta Festival. The Forest Festival every fall is a big draw, with carnival rides and almost two weeks of activities.

What makes this property unique

In 2001 Carl and Larisa were fortunate to have the opportunity to buy this lovely acreage on the banks of the Shavers Fork River from a family friend, just next door to the cabin Larisa built in 1995 (Vrbo #317752). Since that time they have made several improvements, while keeping the original character that the builder, a mill owner, had created in handmade wormy chestnut kitchen cabinets, exceptional stonework, and plank poplar paneling throughout. You can hear the creek flowing behind the house as the summer night breezes keep you cool.
