Location and amenities were fantastic. Ralph was very communicative and helpful when we had a question about the property. Hard to beat for a stay in this area.
I traveled solo to Maui for a friend's wedding. This was the perfect place for my needs - walking distance to the beach, the wedding venue, restaurants, and shopping. The listing was as-is and the bed was comfortable and a/c and wifi worked great. I do not hesitate to recommend this place and would stay here again.

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
The property is in a really great location, about a 16-minute walk to the shops of Wailea and is part of a neighborhood of 2-story apartments/condos. The area also feels very safe. The room itself was a little dirtier than expected; there were stains on the carpet and the sheets. There was snorkeling and beach equipment in the closest, which I thought was cool! I didn’t get a chance to use it, but still. The balcony facing the trees was also a very nice place to have breakfast! Bathroom was large and clean. Check-in was a little rough due to an error on my part and not submitting the form needed for the access code well enough in advance, but I also didn’t realize the hosts weren’t local, so due to the time difference, communication at certain times of the day can be difficult. This is not an issue, just something to be aware of!

By way of clarification, though Kerstyn had to hurry at the end, she did have all the information she needed to check in two days before her arrival.
The carpet is a beautiful carpet which is cleaned regularly. But it is white and just one guest that comes in after it is cleaned can leave stains. Sheets never have more than about 8 months use before they are replaced. Nobody has mentioned any stains before. They will be replaced shortly.
I stayed only one night coming over from Kona, but the studio was quiet, very clean, and the hosts were great with communication.

I am especially appreciative of Tyler's review because the AC had failed just before Tyler arrived and was replaced the day that he left. I called him when I found out about this, and to say that he was understanding would be an understatement. I would recommend him to any host!

Wonderful Owner, responsive and well kept home
Ralph made our stay in Maui very comfortable. Location is perfect for what we were looking for. Not in the hotel areas but the Kihei strip is just around the corner.
I hope to stay in this place again in the future. Mahalo Ralph
Perfect for a short vacation. I used the room for my business trip. I will book for my next trip again.
Owner responded quickly. Appreciate.
Only one thing, Map on this website was not accurate. Pin doesn't show the exact location.
We had a wonderful time and Ralph and Janice were very responsive. It is a cute place and we ate out mostly so the lack of a stove is not a big deal to us. We were able to walk to most places and felt very comfortable there. The bed was comfy and in general this home was a great experience for us. The bath is full-size and we really liked that. Really great landlords Ralph and Janice-THANK-YOU!
The location was amazing! The studio was a good size for the two of us, and it was a great place overall. Our only issue was the wifi still wasn’t working. Ralph was really helpful communicating with us and seemed to do everything he could to try to get it fixed, but sadly it wasn’t by the time we left. Overall, a great stay.

Thanks, Emily, for your review. I'm sorry about the internet. Unfortunately it seems the provider is having the same problem finding enough employees as many other businesses are. However, they did get to our condo a couple of days after you left and it is now working again. It seems as though the modem/router which they installed when they took over servicing our entire development was inadequate to handle the higher speed they were sending, so they replaced it with a new unit. Now I have to tell everyone to whom I've already sent instructions a new name and password. Ugh!
Ralph
Update--Hawaiian Telecom did get to the condo three days after you left and replaced the modem/router. It seems the equipment they originally installed there was not capable of handling the higher speed internet service that was being sent. It, of course, makes me wonder why they installed it in the first place. LOL
Studio is in need if a very deep cleaning. Does not look like the photos. Dirty carpet, dirty linens, old faded and stained towels, rusted out tub and the table on the lanai was broken and unusable

Rarely do we have a guest whom we wouldn't host again, but this is the third of over 1500 guests we have had. The review from the guest who immediately preceded Laura said of our studio, "comfortable, clean, quiet, squeaky clean bathroom, spotless furniture and linens, matches the description." The guest who followed her said simply, "Fantastic." Some specifics: Linens are, of course, laundered after every guest. They are always replaced with less than a year's use. The "old, faded and stained towels" were bought earlier this year and are replaced every year. The white carpet is very high quality and very expensive, but it is white. Unfortunately too many guests don't remove their shoes when they enter, as they are asked to do, and leave stains. However, the carpet is professionally cleaned every three months and always looks very clean afterwards. It was already scheduled to be cleaned just a few days after Laura left. She, by the way, said she was not removing her shoes, thus adding to what she was complaining about. The glass top of the lanai table was a casualty of the new roof that had just been put on the building. A new one is ordered but comes from the mainland. Old pictures? We should update them. Since they were taken we have repainted the studio, put in new drapes, a new table and two chairs, a new end table, the newer white carpet, a new minisplit AC system, etc. I offered to have our cleaner make a special trip but heard nothing back from her.
This place was filthy. The carpets were really dirty. Stained bed linens. We had to wash the bedspread when we arrived. No place to hang clothes. one dresser with drawers that stick. You have to share the washer with other unit that would not remove clothes for a day. I was willing to over look all of this until we started seeing the cockroaches. Really sickening. I have stayed at several units in this complex- all very nice This was a disaster.

This is one of only four guests of the 1500 we have hosted that we would never allow back. We never heard a word of complaint from her until after she left when she wanted a full refund. Cockroaches? We send directions telling guests that all condos in the development are sprayed regularly but it is the tropics and insects can get in. But if so, guest should call us and a special spray will be done within 24 hours. Nobody complained before she came. She never called. Spray was done the day after her complaint and no complaints since. By the way when she left she left a bag of trash right in front of the front door--open invitation for roaches to enter. Linens were laundered before her arrival and were almost new. Guest complained there weren't enough towels-4 bath towels, 4 hand towels and 4 face clothes, all brand new, not enough for two people? Complained there was blood on the tile floor, but floor was scrubbed before her arrival. Carpet did have stains-it's white and too many guests aren't careful, but it is professionally cleaned every 3 months and was cleaned two weeks after she left. Guest complained the brand new AC that we just installed at a cost of $30,000 didn't work. Nonsense. Complained there wasn't enough silverware--service for 4 in a small kitchenette plus full set of knives. Drawers in the dresser didn't stick for anyone else. There is a small closet to hang clothes. Guest who came the day she left gave 5 stars across the board (see Airbnb review).
Nice location. A little confusing to get to the right unit. Comfortable bed. Very little room in entryway to get 2 people & luggage in and remove shoes. White carpet was a pain. Loved the beach chairs, snorkels etc.

Thanks for staying with us and mentioning the comfortable bed--the most important item in any condo.
Just a word of explanation to readers. We send directions to every guest telling them not to use their GPS once they arrive at the condo development because most of the time it takes them to the wrong unit. It shouldn't be confusing to find our unit because it is the very first one upon entering the condo development. But it happens repeatedly when people use their GPS instead of the directions we send.
This studio is a wonderful value. It is a secluded-feeling gem just a short and beautiful walk from resorts that start at $1500 per night and up. Wake up to tropical birdsong and greet the day walking the block or so down toward the shops at Wailea and the spectacular coastal resort walk. The glorious blue ocean and sky and neighboring islands come into full view just steps away from this studio which is conveniently located near the gatehouse to the resort. The ocean and other adventures beckon and the studio is a cozy retreat to return to. Exceptional value!
Nice little studio unit. Deck faces beautiful foliage and we love waking up to the birds. This unit is right by the entrance to the complex but still very quiet. This is a second floor unit so we were able to keep the slider open with the fans going. AC is broken but owner was never notified. Owner responded promptly to my message and had a handiman at the door by morning. AC must be replaced but luckily we were comfortable in our stay here.

Not As Comfortable As Presented
We were here for 3 nights. The location and complex the condo is in were pleasant and well maintained. We could walk to the shopping and dining area, but the beach was a more difficult place to get to. We didn't have a car. I thought the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was quite large and generally functional. Unfortunately, this place is a bit shabby. The tub/shower did not have a non-slip surface and was very slippery getting in and out. There was no soap in there - instead under the sink is a large selection of soaps and shampoos. You just had to pick through it to get what you wanted. I would have been nice to place some nice toiletries into the bathtub to avoid the shuffle. Also, the tile in the bathroom is very slippery when wet. A non-slip surface would be nice and more safe.
As for the kitchen area, it is in the 'hall' between the living and bathrooms. Very narrow and very little counter space. Meal prep in here would be challenging. The refrigerator is located inside a neighboring closet which must be left open to provide air circulation for the frig. Although it was clean, it was awkward moving through the area. Also, someone should go through it and clean out the limited cabinet space. There were 4 jars of PB and several mayonnaise jars in the frig. It was very cluttered and not useful for any cabinet storage as they were crowded. No coffee was provided.
The living area was plenty large. The furniture is sagging. The bed was comfortable. There is a missing slat in the vertical blinds and could not find where to grip to slide them aside for access to the patio. As there is no table in the condo, we ate on the patio where there is a table and chairs (4). If you like a dark room for sleeping, as I am, this is not it. As this is an end unit, there are landscaping lights, on all night, which are directed at the building, and shine into the condo. The fan over the bed was nice.
There are beach chairs, but when we went to use them, there were various reasons they were not usable. The straps on the 'backpack' chair were broken rendering it unusable for us walkers. The other chair was also unusable, though I cannot remember the specific issue. There are other beach toys available but we did not use them.
Upon entering it is requested that you take off your shoes. However, there is no place to sit in the entryway in order to accomplish this task.
I would not stay here again.

Apparently Debra neither read our listing nor looked at the pictures. It is advertised as a studio with a kitchenette, not a full kitchen. The pictures show it quite accurately. I'm not sure what is awkward about the refrigerator since it is only one step away from the counter. When we remodeled the studio we chose to put in a larger refrigerator rather than the under the counter models other studios in Grand Champions have. That also gave more cabinet space. We provide guests with a variety of staples, including coffee, and ask them to replace things when they use them up rather than buying everything new and throwing half of it away when they leave. It saves our guests extra cost. But if they don't replace it, the next guest needs to buy some. It's the honor system.
The tile is slippery? Of course, tile is slippery when it's wet. That's why we have a rug next to the bathtub so guests can dry off before getting the tile floor wet.
Furniture sagging??? The furniture is common Hawaiian style furniture, rattan with puffy cushions. No, it isn't sagging.
At least she recognized the bed was comfortable. It should be as it's a $3500 Tempurpedic mattress, typical of the quality we put into our unit. Expensive white carpet. Granite countertops in the kitchenette and bathroom.
Shabby? Apparently she has never seen a shabby unit or she wouldn't have called ours shabby. The only things I can see in her review that are close to reality are the missing slat in the blind, which happened just before her arrival and which our handyman is replacing, and apparently the cleaner forgot to put soap out, though she admits there was plenty there. I'll check on the beach chairs when we are there in a few weeks. When we left there were three chairs all in good shape for a studio that only fits two guests. Nobody has indicated any problem with the chairs before. But there is a variety of beach gear: umbrella, chairs, towels, snorkel gear, cooler and boogie board. As far as a place to sit in the entryway goes, the only place a chair could be placed is not allowed by the Homeowner's Association.
I can suggest a place that is closer to the beach for her next visit. It only costs a little less than twice as much as she paid and is half the quality.
Such a cute place! We didn't get to stay long since our flight ended up coming in late and we did the sunrise hike at the National Park but if I am ever in maui again, I would 100% book this property again!
Great location in Wailea and close to all the best beaches. Owners were always very responsive. The Grand Champions grounds alone are very beautiful and meticulous. A beautiful paradisaic place to be!
Cute well kept studio lock-off bedroom with full size bathroom and balcony overlooking a small wooded area (shared with adjoining accommodation). Very nice king size mattress. Small kitchenette area with full size refrigerator and microwave (no range or oven). We had everything we needed for our short stay in beautiful Wailea. There is an excellent casual restaurant within walking distance at the tennis club with a creative chef that foodies would love and multiple gourmet restaurant choices at the nearby luxury resorts. Ralph and Janice were very detailed in their helpful communications. We had a wonderful stay and would gladly return.
What a great location! Really makes you feel fancy! The studio was comfortable and had a bunch of great items for the beach which we appreciated. We would stay here again.

About the host
Hosted by ralph G schmidt
Ralph is a retired pastor who is now Director of Development for a humanitarian aid organization. Janice formerly worked in nursing and insurance; she now cares for their home and their Cavalier King Charles puppy named Cromwell. We both enjoy golf and dancing in our leisure time, Janice also is active in yoga and is a passionate knitter.
We have visited most of the major islands and feel Maui offers everything we want in a vacation home. We always enjoy the road to Hana, drives around the north and south sides of the island and people-watching in Lahaina. Most mornings we take the shore walk behind the Wailea resorts and look for whales. On our first trip to Maui we discovered Big Beach and that is still our favorite.
Why they chose this property
We had been looking at units in the Kihei area around the Kameole beaches where we had stayed many times in the past. When our real estate agent convinced us to look at this condo, we were sold immediately! We knew the beautiful Wailea development was worth the extra expense. The ability to manage our own rentals via the internet, and a great price brought it within our reach, so we mortgaged our rental properties on the mainland and jumped. We haven't regretted it!! Now when we come to Maui, we feel we are coming home.
What makes this property unique
Although our ocean view is small, we can still view whale activity with binoculars from our front lanai and the studio window. The grills & one of the pools are right across the parking lot from our unit, so our food is still hot when we get back to the condo. We love sitting out on the lanai listening to the breeze rustle the bamboo leaves, and sleeping with the doorwall open to the lanai at night. The cathedral ceiling makes the room light and seem even larger than it actually is.
