Have a wonderful vacation at Kahana Sunset, 9 miles north of Kaanapali Beach, just south of Napili and Kapalua, home of the Mercedes Open. Our beautifully landscaped resort is situated on secluded Keone Nui Bay which is home to a large family of turtles. In the winter months humpback whales can be seen breaching off shore and fabulous sunsets can be seen almost every evening from our beach. Our complex is relatively small and is bordered on both sides by private homes which means our beach is usually only visited by our owners and guests. You can swim and snorkel right from our beach and our swimming pool and adjoining childrens pool together with two large barbecue areas means that after a day of sightseeing, everything you need to have a relaxing time is right there. Our completely remodeled condo has a downstairs living area and a spacious, fully stocked kitchen with a full sized refrigerator, electric stove, microwave and dishwasher. There is also awasher/ dryer as well as a private lanai with a remote controlled awning allowing you to dine outdoors during a passing tropical shower. Upstairs the master suite has a kingsized bed and its own bathroom and lanai. The condo is fully air conditioned and a tv/vcr are included. The second bedroom has a queen and single beds, tv/vcr and its own bathroom with a shower/ tub combination ideal for small children. The two bedroom suites are perfect for two families and there is also a queen sized hideabed downstairs for extra sleeping. There are granite countertops throughout the condo and each room has plenty of ventilation and its own fan. The condo is an end unit with extra side windows to catch the trade winds. It is also quieter as there is only one adjoining condo and no one underneath. You are only a short distance from the beach and pool but far removed from the noise yet you can still hear the sound of the ocean. Covered parking right outside the front door means easy delivery of luggage and groceries and outside the windows there are lush, tropical plantings of bananas, mangoes and papayas. There are lounge chairs by the beach where you can swim or sunbathe and enjoy a good book and the covered Keone Nui room is a great place to have a small dinner party or meet friends for an evening mai tai. Our beach is also perfectly situated for weddings or family celebrations and you can arrange to use the Keone Nui room for those events at our front desk. A private security firm checks our grounds and parking lot each evening and high speed internet cable and a small desk is available for your laptop. Your vacation will begin and end at Kahana Sunset and at the end of your stay you will be sorry to leave and ready to schedule your return visit.

Host was welcoming. The condo had a strange smell to it when we arrived. Hardly any toiletries ( paper) in the unit. Beach chairs were old and ripped. Unit has a good supply of kitchen utensils ect. It was clean. Could be cleaner in the bathrooms. Some of the plug in outlets did not really work well. Just seems as though the owner may need to come and look into some small items to be updated. Tv was very slow to turn on. The complex itself was very nice and clean. Quiet.
Loved our stay at D11! The condo and property were perfect for our family. The beds slept well, it was easy to cook in the well outfitted kitchen. There was a good selection of books to enjoy (and more updated tvs than the pictures show!) Kids loved the pool and beach/ocean even tho the waves were pretty strong during our stay. Saw a couple turtles also.
The property was absolutely beautiful and was so relaxing. Overall our stay exceeded our expectations and we hope to come back again!

Hawaii
Okay stay, expected to be or see ocean, we had the building wall next door as our view, wish it said all bathrooms upstairs and reservation showed a 2 year old but room had alot of glass tables so that was a challenge in itself, Maintenence guy was super nice and always said hello when passing by us.

We stayded at the condo for 6 nights, we liked the weekends more because there were no construction going on, but during business days wich was wed.-friday and the next week mon and tuesday they were doing roof repairs and waking us up very early and when you are on vacation you want to sleep in....
The beach was sandy and that is what we wanted.

Sorry about the roof repairs but the schedule was changed at the last minute and we did not have any say in the matter. Luckily the job is now finished.

Great Condo
Our visit was two couples and the layout of the condo worked great. Bedrooms are separated and each has it's own bath. This is an end unit so it gets good use of the trade winds. There are room air conditioners in the bedrooms and along with the ceiling fans we were comfortable. Kitchen stocked well.
The complex is very comfortable, quiet and pretty secluded. Very relaxing. There was some seawall repair happening during out stay but that should be done by now.

Thank you for your input. Hope you come back soon.
Kahana Sunset is easy to find, has a well-equipped kitchen, stacked washer and dryer (very handy), 2 large lanais, very comfortable beds, both bedrooms are upstairs. Overall a really nice place to stay, about 15 minutes north of the hustle and bustle of Lahaina. The grounds are impeccably maintained, as is the pool. During our stay, the beach was sometimes there and sometimes not! Stormy roiling seas crashed against the seawall and turned the stairs to the beach into a sand ramp. But it was fantastic to have access from the property directly onto the beach. And the sunsets were gorgeous. Just to be clear on the location of this unit: it is at the back of the property and doesn't have much of a view. From the upper lanai you can just about see the pool. This wasn't a big deal for us, and we would definitely stay here again, and recommend it.
The condo, D11 was well stocked, very clean, and comfortable.
The Kahana Sunset facilities were clean and fully operational. The grounds were well manicured and beautiful. The employees were friendly and helpful. The beach access was awesome.
This is perfect for us. We were able to go and do everything we wanted to and come home in the evening and enjoy dinner by the ocean or play at the beach or swim in the pool or just relax.
Rental prices and communication was easy. We loved the location of the community and the unit within it. About 50min from the Kahului airport, 5-15 min to all the good west coast spots. Unit is in back of small community, so you don’t get pool noise but it’s still just steps to pool and beach. Some road noise though. We had one little glitch with the AC unit but I called property management and they fixed it within hours. We will absolutely book again when returning to Maui!
The pros of this property:
- beautiful grounds
- good amount of space for a family of four (with 2 teenagers)
- comfortable beds
- friendly hosts/property manager
- good parking
The cons:
- dated interior
- bathrooms in bad shape (i.e. aged/cracked tile, old foggy glass doors, and the toilet paper holder was dangling from the wall, but they came and fixed it quickly)
- cleaning not great - hairs and remnants left behind
- may be the worst placed condo in the entire complex - on the end of one of the buildings with other buildings blocking any potential view.
In a previous review they mention that the beach is significantly smaller than in the photos. This is true as it looks like there has been serious erosion over the years (next door properties look like they are really struggling to stay intact). Still, the beach and water that does exist was beautiful, and for the area it was great to have, as a lot of places in Kahana area did not have this kind of access.
Ultimately, it was a fair price for what we booked.

Felt the listing was misleading
First off, the positives: beautiful Hawaii, perfect snorkeling and turtles right off the beach, property was expertly maintained by a tireless crew (super friendly), mango tree out in parking lot provided the best mangos daily, nice big kitchen, some extra beach toys left behind to use. Gorgeous lawn to relax on, shower to wash beach off with.
Things I was misled with: the condo is in the back corner of the property. The only view you have from the condo is of another condo. Top lanai has a corner of a view of property and ocean, pictures of beach are misleading. The landscape of the beach has changed. One wall is crumbled and the other has been replaced, the beach is MUCH smaller than the pictures due to erosion and there are large sandbags on a portion of the sand that take away from the ambiance of the beach.
We arrived on a Sunday and found the master bedroom’s bed was still stripped and there were no sheets to be found. The downstairs pullout bed was also missing sheets. I spent over an hour trying to call someone with the condo and then another hour on the phone with VRBO. VRBO or I could not get a hold of anyone. Not the way you want to spend your first day in Hawaii. We slept on towels the first night. Steve got a hold of us first thing Monday morning and helped us out.
Please don’t expect to sleep on pullout bed, it is old and flat, you’ll be sleeping on bars and springs.
Overall, we enjoyed our trip. We do wish they were more forthcoming with the more recent photos. We planned on getting married on the beach but there were no good angles for pictures. One side had an exposed underside of a removed wall and the other had large sandbags. We still married on the lawn but wasn’t the same. The picture of the “top lanai” is not a picture of the lanai but of that view in the far left corner of the lanai. (Would have been nice to know when I saw it).
Can’t say enough about the maintenance of the property. The landscaping was beautiful and the crew were ALWAYS emptying trash, cleaning the area and tending to landscaping.
This little getaway was perfect for what we needed. Plenty of room for our family of four. The grounds were beautifully maintained. Saw turtles in the water and on the beach the first day. Great sunsets and nice bbq area. There was even a grisly Myna bird that would land on your shoulder in the mornings. We named him Maui. I would recommend this home away from home to anyone looking to relax and get away from it all. Thank you Maureen for sharing your sweet Maui get away with us. Oh!, also there is a large Mango tree right out the front door. Fresh fruit for breakfast.
The property was great, when I booked 2 beds and 2 baths I just assumed one bath would be on the 1st floor. Being a senior the stairs were a challenge but manageable. All in all we had a great vacation I would use Vrbo again
The stay was wonderful. Still giving 5 stars though there was major tree landscaping 2 days in a row and all day long. Waking up to the sound of buzzsaws wasn’t the greatest .A note from management would have been nice. However, went over to Kapalua Bay and enjoyed the beach u til sunset. Kahana Sunset is very clean and had a beautiful view from my room. This place is just like the resorts!
Spent 8 days at Kahana Sunset. Stayed in D11. Unit hsd everything we needed, and was very nice. The property is meticulously maintained, the beach is awesome for swimming, and the pool was great. Close to grocery shopping and restaurants. AC worked great and was a needed most days.

Critters
We were not provided with room number and code to get in to condo prior to arrival and it took a long time to retrieve information for us to get in. We also had a mouse in the house, found a dead bed bug in a bed and a dead cockroach on the floor. Enjoyed the location of the condo and saw so many turtles in the bay. Critters were the main issue.

Sorry about the key code mix up but we did not have your correct email address or you would have definitely received it ahead of time. We do have a pest abatement program in place and our cleaning crew do a good job of taking care of pests. Definitely not a usual occurrence.
We had a large group and the property was a great fit. Convenient location and property was exactly as advertised.

About the host
Hosted by Maureen Laurence
My family and I have been coming to West Maui for many years. We live in northern California and we think that Hawaii has got to be the closest thing to paradise on earth. Our grandchildren absolutely love the beach and have learned to surf and snorkel there. We feel so fortunate to be able to come here as often as we do and I have introduced many friends and family members to our property at Kahana Sunset and everyone absolutely loves it.
Why they chose this property
My husband and I have travelled quite a bit and we always thought Maui was our favorite destination. When we decided to buy a second home we knew west Maui would be the place as we kept coming to the same area year after year. Our first visit was not until my husband turned fifty but then we continued to come once and sometimes twice a year ever since. We remodelled our condo in 2004 and this meant we could add certain touches to make it our own. Everytime we leave we cannot wait to come back. It is indeed true that Hawaii calls to you and waits for your return.
What makes this property unique
One of the best things about our property is our quieter location within the complex away from the noise of the beach and pool and yet you are only a short distance away from all the activity. Also having an end unit allows us to have extra windows and light with view of lush, tropical vegetation and access to the cool tropical breezes.
