About this property

Eco, Urban, Authentic and Charming

Located in Playa Tamarindo (one of the most beautiful surfing and fishing beaches in Costa Rica), 45 minutes from the Liberia Airport, Pueblo del Mar, is cozy, quiet, constructed of authentic Spanish-style architecture. Free parking borders the condo complex and their is a guard on duty every night.
Each two-story condo in the complex has Mediterranean-colored exteriors with traditional terracotta tile roofs where you may often spy iguanas. The central public courtyard space includes a pool, lounge chairs on grass, and a thatch roof cabana with Wi-Fi connection. Look up in the morning and late afternoons and you may pick out our very own family of holla monkeys. Do respect their space while you take very adorable pictures.
Open the door to a calm, simply contemporary and comfortable interior featuring indigenous Guanacaste wood and all the modern conveniences. Sunlight streams through the blinds and the sounds of nature surround you.
Air conditioning in the queen size and twin bedrooms and ceiling fans on the ground floor keep all spaces cool and comfortable. Each bedroom has open spaces to store clothing and there is a safe in the open closet outside the bath. A large open, glass-walled shower, marble basin and Guanacasta wood counter top add rustic charm.
An abundance of fine dining and typical local fare are all within walking distance along with great shopping and souvenirs. Surfing, boating, fishing, horseback riding, wind sailing, ATV nature tours and bicycle rentals are just some of the many recreational activities available in abundance.
One special event of almost every day is the spectacular sunset. Take a walk on the beach or book a sunset cruise or pick a different beach front spot, grab a chair, your favorite happy hour cocktail and get your camera ready. Evenings are great for walking in town, making your own home cooked meal from the Saturday Farmers' Market or many local, well-stocked grocery stores and hitting a dance floor to work it all off.
Memorize these words--'tranquilo', 'Pura Vida' and 'con mucho gusto' and you will fit in like a local.

Disliked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, listing accuracy
It is all about the communication.
Paper work said check in is 2pm and out at 11am. PM said that is incorrect check in is at 3pm and out is at 10am. Fans on main floor did not work well. Ants on wall in second bedroom. Batteries were dead in the remotes. One had corrosion on it already. Remote for the fan on main floor was already broken and fixed and PM said that maintenance crew stated it was all working fine. Not if you can not sleep in one bedroom due to the ants and the main floor has not A/C and the fans barely work and it is a choice of on with a light or not on at all. Took two of the four day stay to get this cleared up by installing a portable A/C unit on main floor. This wifi would cut out all the time. We were in CR for 15 days and stayed at 5 different places. Some were more expensive and some less. One was in the jungle with no A/C and windows stayed open at night. Never had ants anywhere else. I do not like to be the person that complains but the PM company was not communicating well at all. Was considering purchasing property in CR but would not leave an investment of that type with this PM company to manage. My apologizes to the owner but we reached out to you once, stated that we hoped your PM was keeping you up to date on the issues. Never heard back from you either. It is all about communication, keep me up to date on the issue and what you are doing to resolve them and then follow through. Yes the PM stated that it is difficult to find things in CR. Funny while I was on the beach I looked on Amazon and found a new remote. With Prime I could have had it delivered the next day. Not that hard if you try. The complex was nice and the pool was clean it was quite inside the gated community and the security was there at night. Pura Vida this incident did not define our trip but it did leave a bad taste.

Lovely Townhome
The place was clean and conveniently located, close to the restaurant and a short walk from the beach. One things that needs an update is some of the appliances like the coffee maker and new towels. The towels were very old, it would be nice if they can provide beach and house towels. Other than that love the townhome, sometime I read by the swimming pool and was lovely. Also I like the fact that there is security all the time, no that there is danger but it is nice that they are there, and they let you know they go around the complex.

Spanish flair mixed with an intoxicating feeling of romanticism. An oasis of monkeys and trees.
Be ready to be woken up by the monkeys and end your day by swimming on the exquisite little pool before going to watch the sunset on the beach a few blocks away. Don't forget to grab a cold Imperial from the local spot.

About the host

Host profile image
I am a native of the greater New York metropolitan area. I visited Costa Rica 20 years ago and had the pleasure of being introduced to the country by a native family. I was so moved by its beauty and the warmth of the 'Tico' peoples, I promised myself I would return often and later live in this wonderful place.
Tamarindo was one of the first places I visited on that trip and it left an indelible mark because I found myself crying as I boarded the plane back to my beloved New York. My love of nature and beaches, yoga, paddle boarding, jogging, biking, and tennis--all sports in abundance in the area are what drew me to Tamarindo.
As an interior designer for the last 20 years, I've completed projects all around the world. Design, food, art, and travel are my sweet spots. I am currently learning Spanish and Salsa dancing, working in the US, and manufacturing products using local skilled craftspeople in several Central American countries.

Why they chose this property

We wanted to be sure to to stay connected to Costa Rica and maintain the ability to visit whenever time allowed, so finding the right spot was very important. After looking at many condo, we were charmed and fell in love with the authenticity of the architecture and the easy care simplicity of both the interior. The exterior from the cacti bollard, to the mission style entry gate to the lush vegetation of the courtyard made Pueblo del Mar a perfect match.
The pueblo on a quiet street is conveniently (3 city blocks) located near the center of town where the beach, restaurants , nightclubs, and adventure tours await you. We often have friends or family visit with us and--several have also bought property there--and like many others before and since, our wedding was celebrated there in 2007.

What makes this property unique

We are awakened each morning, no matter the season, to the sound of the holla monkeys and countless bird songs. Each Mediterranean colored, two-story villa is topped with authentic terracotta tiles where you can often see iquana sunning in the early morning. Look up in the mornings and evenings and there is the holla monkey family. Be respectful of their space and you will be able to take lots of picturesque photos.
Eat in or out as we have a full kitchen in which to prepare your own meals. You can take a dip in the organic shaped pool to cool off after relaxing in the lounge chairs, meet other friendly neighbors or catch up on emails in the shade of the WiFi-connected cabana. Daily maid service is available should you require.
