About this property

Step Back in Time: Downtown Custer, SD Victorian Historic Brothel; Dogs Welcome

The historic brothel in downtown Custer, South Dakota, stands as a testament to a bygone era, offering a unique glimpse into the region's colorful past. This intriguing establishment, with its five bedrooms, is an emblem of the town's history and is conveniently situated walking distance to various amenities such as restaurants, bars, shopping and wine tasting and a short car ride to Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Jewel Cave, Wind Cave, Mount Rushmore and more.

Built during the late 19th century, the brothel, that was relocated from Keystone to Custer, has retained much of its original charm and character. Its architecture, a fusion of Victorian and Wild West influences, captures the essence of the era, with intricate wooden detailing and ornate ironwork adorning the exterior. The brothel's façade stands in stark contrast to the more modest buildings surrounding it, highlighting its historical significance.

The interior of the brothel is equally fascinating. Each of the five bedrooms is a time capsule of the past, exuding a sense of luxury and indulgence. Richly decorated with Pendleton fabrics, the rooms reflect the opulent tastes of the clientele that once frequented this establishment. There's a large kitchen, spacious dining room, two living room areas, an office area if you have to plug in.

Situated in the heart of downtown Custer, this historic brothel's location adds to its allure. The proximity to amenities such as restaurants, saloons, and shops make it a central hub for the town's visitors, providing an immersive experience of the Old West. Patrons could easily explore the town's vibrant cultural scene, then return to the brothel for an evening of entertainment and relaxation.

There's plenty of parking, tables for dining al fresco in the summertime, a solo stove for those cool night and plenty of parking in the back. The covered front porch is perfect for people watching, reading, your morning cup of coffee and your wind-down wine.

Come check out my home....and you don't even have to call me Madam!

Oh...for the summer...there is not air conditioning....we rarely need it as we cool off in the evenings and the home is shaded by wonderful trees...but if it does get unseasonably warm, we have fans to help....it would only be the upstairs bedrooms that would need that. The main level stays nice and cool.

There's a full size washer and dryer for your use as well and I do keep detergent handy for you.

I love dogs....but we do have limited grass area so please be sure to pick up after your pooch.

FAQ's:
IS THIS RENTAL AVAILABLE YEAR-ROUND?
YES! Custer is high elevation. There are on average 228 sunny days per year here! The average summer temp is 80 degrees and winter can be in the 30’s-40’s. Many stores and restaurants stay open year-round! Custer has many fall/winter events. We are about 1 hour from skiing at Terry Peak. We are at a higher altitude....some people will feel the affects of the higher elevation so if you are not used to it, be sure to rest and hydrate!

WHAT RESTAURANTS ARE OPEN YEAR-ROUND?
The Custer Wolf, Custer Beacon, Skogen, Buglin' Bull, Hjem AM, Sauce and Dough, Pizza Hut, Subway and Maria's Mexican are a few of the restaurants that are open year-round (although many take an extended break in the winter.)

IS THERE A PLACE TO RENT BIKES AND UTVS?
YES! Black Hills Power Bikes is a great way to see the Mickelson Trail. For UTV/ATV rental we recommend Hill City Adventures. Also, if you need a bike shuttle, there's Dave's Adventure Tours.

HOW MANY HIKING/BIKING TRAILS ARE THERE?
We have over 70 miles of hiking in and around the park. Other than the Mickelson Trail (500 feet from the house) we put our favorite hikes (including Black Elk Peak) in the guidebook.

ARE THERE STORES NEARBY TO BUY FOOD?
We have Lynn’s Dakota Mart and two dollar stores. Be sure to check out our organic market just a block down the street, Wild Spruce Market.

The building does share a wall and a parking lot with Aspen+Pine Realty...where the owner of this home sells Black Hills property. So if you fall in love with the area, your Realtor is on hand!!
