The house and location were great! Sarah was quick to respond to any questions we had. The huge kitchen area was perfect and the family/game room was very enjoyable for everyone. Would definitely stay again.
This house was perfect! Just out of town and peaceful. Plenty of room for the three pickups and trailers. We needed something and it was on the deck when we got up in the morning!! We will stay here again. It’s my favorite house so far!!
The location of the property was ideal. A Little out of town but close to Custer for dinners out and other activities. The home was in a nice setting. Nice comfortable areas to hang out in the home. We loved the deck out back and spent a lot of time sitting out there.
We loved our stay! The location is great, the wooded acreage for privacy and being right outside Custer State Park, was just what we needed. We had deer in the yard most days. The kids loved the ping pong table, and we hung out in the large kitchen ALOT. We were there for the 4th of July and were able to watch the fireworks from the yard, by the fire! Would definitely stay again!
The pictures that we looked at prior to booking does not do this place justice. This was a perfect place for us! We came up for the Sturgis Rally and did not want to be in the middle of the rally. The house was immaculate, and everything was just as described. Beautiful, large kitchen, spacious rooms, very comfortable beds. Sitting on the back porch, drinking coffee and watching the wildlife. I highly recommend this house. The owners, Lonnie and Sarah were great to work with, and if we needed anything, they were there.

The house and scenery is beautiful !
We recently were here as a party of 7 adults for 9 nights. The house and the scenery was beautiful. It was everything we expected it to be. The kitchen/ dining area was very inviting for us to hang out in . We also enjoyed the porch, hot tub and pool table area as well. It was absolutely breath taking to see the sites in Custer, including Custer State Park, Spear Fish, Hill city, Dead wood, Lead, Hot spring, Sturgis and Sundance. Also Iron Mountain Road, Needles highway , Devils tower, Mt. Rushmore and Crazy horse to name a few. The house is conveniently located and was a great place to come back to and relax in the evenings. Lonnie and Sarah were accommodating to us!

We would come here again
The place worked perfect for us, it was large, the pool and ping pong table turned out to be so much for for this group of women. The hot tub was clean and hot.
There has been a pet in the house at some time and there is a faint (very faint) odor. The towels had a slight musty odor, like they may have been put away when they were still damp. One of the beds upstairs had dirty sheets on the bed. I assume the last guest made the bed and the maid didn't know the bed had been used.
The oven may need to be cleaned but can understand that not being done in this heat.
The garage would be great in a hail storm. It was so peaceful here and not a lot of traffic on the roads so it felt very private.
We had a great time and we would come again.
Great home in a perfect location to see all the sites in the southern part of the Black Hills. Just minutes from Custer State Park and very close to the Mt. Rushmore/Crazy Horse monuments. The Wind Cave National Park is a very short drive south. It takes 5 minutes to drive into the city of Custer where you’ll find some very good restaurants (e.g., Sage Creek Grille and Custer Wolf). The house itself was great. I don’t think the pictures on VRBO do it justice. The place was extremely clean when we arrived, the beds very comfortable, and everything was in perfect working order. As others have pointed out, the kitchen is very large and was a central gathering point for us. The family room was huge with separate pool/ping-pong table, game-table and TV-watching areas. Everyone also loved the hot tub right off the porch! The house is situated on a dead-end road and we saw/heard almost no traffic. About the only thing we did see were a lot of deer. Given how close you are to everything, it was amazingly quiet. We would definitely stay here again!

family getaway
This was a greast place for a family gathering. My only problem was that the listing stated that there wwas internet service . Upon our arrival there was no service. My son in law and son both rely on this for their businesses and have to be available at least some time during the day. We were first told that a storm had knocked out the service so we got ahold of the internet Co to find out this property had not had service for 6 months. I took two days of my son in law to finally get things hooked up. This was an unfortunate time for the this to be dealt with as the owner was hospitalized and communication was obviously not easy. My heart goes out to her. This was not an incident that just occurred and should have had this service hooked up months ago. If my sons did not have businesses to look after this would not have been an issue either. The home and property themselves were great.
Our overall stay us great. House keeping could spend a little more time cleaning. Sarah was a great host. Answering all of our questions very quickly. Loved the location of the house. Lots of room to spread out in the house. Spent most our time in the huge kitchen area. We would stay here again..
We had a wonderful time at this house. It worked perfectly well for 6 adults and 2 small kids. It was clean and had everything we needed. Also had great communication with the owners. We would definitely stay again and would recommend it to anyone!
The pictures do not do this property justice (and i thought they were pretty good to begin with). Plenty of space to hang out or find some quite time. Minutes from downtown Custer. The host is attentive, responsive and extremely helpful. 100% would stay here again.
We spent 5 nights at the Moss Rock Lodge. It was a very nice property and was very peaceful. It was conveniently located right outside of Custer. It was very convenient to have a garage attached that we could use. I would highly recommend family and friends to stay at this property!
This property was absolutely perfect for my whole family! The hosts were awesome and communicated very well. They made sure we were comfortable at the property and very friendly! This was my parents first time using VRBO and I don’t think they will ever go back to hotel stays as a big family. The property had such a variety of different hang out spots for the whole family. Being located in Custer was also a huge plus because it was central for all of the big things to check off in the Black Hills. We also loved all the wildlife we got to see just sitting on the back deck!
We stayed with 8 adults and the house was very comfortable and had everything we couple possibly need. The large kitchen was great. We spent our mornings and evenings on the desk watching all the deer. We were there for an ATV trip and we were able to get everywhere with our wheeler and never had to trailer. Lots of space for parking. We had 4 large trucks with trailers and we still had room. Highly recommend!
Very nice property wildlife in the yard every evening and every morning we were on bikes was very easy to get to had a nice garage to keep them in house was clean. Beds were comfortable and close to and close to Mount Rushmore and all the places you want to ride to over there on that side recommend this property to anybody.
I was pleasantly surprised with this house-- I do not think the pictures do it justice. The kitchen is VERY large with a island and table for eating/hanging out. The Beds were very comfortable and we really enjoyed ping pong and pool. The grocery store and downtown Custer are only 6 minutes down the road. I did shop in the grocery store dakotamart, a few times as we tend to eat in on vacations. My only issue was personal as I suffer from altitude sickness and this house is at 6500 feet which caused some illness for me. While we were here we went to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Mammoth site and a nearby spring, Rushmore adventures for spelunking, Jewel cave for a lantern tour, paddleboard and hiking in Custer Park all of which were a 30 minute or less drive. We also went to the Badlands but that is 2hours away. I would recommend this house to any larger groups- it accomedated two families for us.

About the host
Hosted by Sarah Schryvers
The original home was built in 1987. We built an addition and renovated the entire home in 2011. I have a large family that enjoy coming to the Black Hills. We renovated to accommodate large groups of people. We enjoy 4 wheeling and often leave from our home to access the many trails in the Black Hills Forest Service. I also enjoy cycling and will use the Mickelson trail but will also take my road bike out from the bottom of our subdivision. Hiking is a family past time. There are many trails in Custer State Park and in the Black Hills National Forest. Harney Peak is a short drive and offers a moderately challenging hike with beautiful views at the top as your reward. We golf at Rocky Knolls 9 hole course in Custer. We also golf the Southern Hills Golf Course in Hot Springs, SD. It is a beautiful 18 hole course on nearly 6000 acres.
Why they chose this property
Proximity and Spaciousness! You will feel like you are miles away yet you are very close to all of the things you want to do. I have stayed in VRBO properties and have found many of them to be compact. This property is anything but compact.
What makes this property unique
The covered deck is definitely a plus. It is not unusual to have evening rain storms. You can even enjoy the rain without getting all wet, unless that is what you want to do.
