Not as advertised
We have stayed in dozens of rental homes, and this is our first negative review. Looking back now, we see that there are no other reviews posted for this listing. We lament our failure to notice this.
We were contacted by the owner the evening prior to our arrival and instructed to “never mention (rental company) to neighbors, always a friend of (the owner)… no hang out in front of the house.” We are not friends, and we were not made aware at the time of rental that the front of the home was not an acceptable place for us to gather, or that our presence as renters would not be accepted by neighbors.
The condition of the home was not as advertised. The pool was unusable, and the area around the pool was unkept. The yard appeared uncared for. The gate to the back yard was broken and standing open. The bathroom towels smelled of mildew, and there was soap scum in the showers. The refrigerator shelves had spills.
We secured a new rental and vacated the home. Despite multiple efforts, we have not succeeded in engaging the owner in any productive conversation about reimbursement for our losses.
