Private Respite Breathe Deeply Cabin with Garden, SwimSpa/Hot Tub, Fire Pit
Welcome all and pets. Breathe Deeply is a 100+ yr old cabin revived and furnished with love. Breathe Deeply is a safe, easy escape. Everything here waiting for you. Outdoors, privacy. Time to watch the deer & sky. Enjoy the hot tub/swim spa. Or soak in the spring fed claw tub with our bath salts. Settle down with a choice of fire pits. Fast internet expands to patio. Use our bluetooth and BBQ pit . Its definitely not your regular routine,
NOTE: Pets need UTD flea/tick tx. Smoking outside ok.
A stone throw south of the Austin City Limits -one quarter mile- this cabin is situated in 2.5 wooded acres neighboring an 18 acre old wooded farmland. Luxuriously, almost country, glamping and fairly quiet (there is some traffic noise and a trian whistle). Land is inhabited by deer, hawks, rabbits, owls, lizards a fox and butterflies/humming birds. There is an old stone well filled by an aquifer (legend states the well was built by Ben McCullough; a Brigadier-General soldier in the civil war).
Its possible you'll be tempted to lounge all day. However, the center of Austin or San Marcos, with music, swimming, fishing and kayaking and floating are just 15-25 minutes from this retreat. Go play and come back to lounging while watching deer in the meadow.
Sound like a fit for you? More info: Circuit of the Americas is 18 miles through country roads or a toll road. It is possible to attend this event and never enter Austin. The toll road will deliver you from the airport to the cabin and the event without the Austin traffic. SXSW and other major events: Consider being in the crowds day and night then retreating by the fire at your quiet cabin just 15 minutes south from all the ruckus of Central Austin. Invite a few friends to hang with you and perhaps make your own music.
Reservations for guests under 18 welcomed with prior approval and possibly no extra friends, lets discuss.
Pets: We have ducks and sometimes 2 well behaved dogs. Property is fenced though there's no guarantee its entirely secure. Pets welcomed. Max 2 pets with shots and flea/tick treatments UTD. Let us know if you're bringing pets so we can greet in the manner you need. Dogs love it here! Dog park/bar around the corner.
ACL 1 & 2 and SXSW: center of town is generally 20 minutes. I can drop off for public bus which avoids the hassels of where to park and how far to hike. Retreat back to the cabin and relax away from the crowds with your own evening fire and some wine.
Host can prep the fire. Firewood complementary. Local quality coffee, decaf coffee and a variety of teas and cream. Thai, Indian and Mexican restaurants within a mile, BBQ pit available with charcoal provided. Games are in the cupboard and paints in the drawer!. Please check amenities-we're set up for your respite; just bring your swim suit. We provide towels, quality cotton sheets, quilt, pillows, utensils, dishes, cups, herbs and oil, a hammock and Texas history books and Austin "best of..." magazines...
Extra charge for round trip transportation to the airport or elsewhere offered by host. Public bus stop 3 miles from the cabin, it is easy to grab a ride to the bus stop from the host- no charge. Weekend reservations are a minimum of 2 nights. If you can only stay 1 weekend night, please ask about an exception so that I can attempt to make it work. There are 2 airstream rentals tucked in the far back wooded corners. Host lives across the patio-please see pictures.
Guest have exclusive access to the patio. You are welcome to wander all the grounds-(2.58 acres with meadow) with the exception of course, of the private residence- With prior notification to host, guests of guests are welcomed, visiting (not overnight due to space/bed limitation) at the fire or in the swim spa is a great option to share with friends!
Looking for discounts? week and month discounts will compute during reservation. Other Discounts from Host: 4 days including weekend= cost for all days are weekday price. 4 weekdays = 5% off. Weekday Last minute Discount (within 2 days)= 5% off Host Discounts requires an inquirery rather than instabook to request via message to apply discount as a special price before booking. I interact with guests as much as they want. Usually, an initial orientation to the cabin and grounds, then texting for the morning "I'm returning, please get the fire ready". There are times I am encouraged to visit at the fire and I really enjoy doing so. Within a mile: Several Wedding Venues Texas Keepers Cidery, multiple restaurants, Within 3 miles: MoonTower Saloon with comedy Club, GittyUp Saloon, Several other music venues, HEB Grocery Store, Lady Bird Wildflower Center 5 miles Three miles away, there is a public bus which goes directly (no transfers) to the center of Austin. There is an alternate toll route from the airport which avoids Austin traffic, please check your GPS. Your cabin is located on the property where the host lives. It is private-semi secluded- and very safe. Stars are dimmed from the Austin and nearby lights while cars and a train whistle can be heard. I am working towards a wildlife/native habitat refuge; with our neighbor's 18 acres (which contributes to the country feeling however 18 acres are not available to guests.). Under the cabin, on occasions, we are visited by a critter or two. This is rare but does mutually surprise us all - after dusk of course. Property is fed by an underground aquifer with a soft water system and reverse osmosis installed. Holidays, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas have a minimum stay of 3 nights required. This is also true for SXSW and F1. ACL is 2 nights. Weekends are 2 nights minimum. Please send a note with any questions. I hope to meet you.

Tamara was just the friendliest host! She was super helpful with suggestions and recommendations. Although we did not have the opportunity to take advantage of the lovely property, we were greeted daily by the lovely ducks!
The cabin was clean, fully appointed and decorated so creatively. Tamara is a welcoming host and check in was easy. The expansive grounds, the ducks, the fountain, the artwork and twinkle lights at night were charming. Felt like the ranch yet close to restaurants and stores. Did not use the hot tub but it looked inviting!
The cabin and the locale was very comfortable. It was a great way to truly get away from it all!It was perfectly equipped, clean, and the bed was great!
Five stars all around. This little cabin is such a hidden gem—you’d never know you were in the middle of Austin. It was quiet, calm, and exactly what I needed after a busy workday. Perfect for a short overnight stay, clean and comfortable, with a super welcoming host who made everything easy. I’m really grateful for the peaceful reset and would absolutely stay again.
The property manager was super sweet and very accommodating, the only thing that didn’t give us five stars, was the Wi-Fi connection would constantly disconnect and was very poor, and I came there kind of as a work retreat, I also didn’t realize there would be other random people walking around on the property during the day, I thought it was mostly secluded per the listing. The last thing is that there was a train line close enough that the train horns kept me up most of the night since I’m a light sleeper. Other than that, it’s a really sweet property.

Nice property, rained this week so was still wet unfortunately
This cottage is a gem. Very unique and quaint, perfect for a couple getting out of town for awhile. Host Tamara is very kind and accommodating, prompt communication. Ducks are there to greet you and entertain with their waddles and mud splashes. The spa is a large swim spa, well maintained. Twinkle lights light up the property at night and feels so cozy. Very private property with big trees and garden areas with seating. I spent two mornings wandering through the gardens with my morning tea. Excellent dining options just down the road but also not far from Austin proper. There is a train that goes by occasionally but did not disturb us. The cottage does not have central air but the AC unit that was there worked great, kept us cool and comfortable. Bed is very soft, bedding was clean and comfortable. Cottage has a full bathroom and a small kitchen with a kettle, microwave and mini fridge. WiFi signal is good and we used our phones and iPads just fine. Highly, highly recommend if you’re looking for something private and charming!
Brilliant spot for a unique visit. No live laugh love signs here! Creative and beautiful decor, great outdoor hang out areas, kind and genuine host. Very close to Austin. Cotton sheets in a comfy bed. Very easy check-in.
Our stay was very enjoyable, and we will certainly stay here again if we’re in the area in the future. It’s a cute one-bed rental with everything you may need.
what a wonderful stay a restful retreat beautiful surroundings and a wonderful host. Highly recommend this place. Me and my best friend came there to stay close to a show and had so much fun. Loved the ducks and was able to do a little bit of artwork on the patio. Will definitely come back.

About the host
Hosted by Tamara Trager
I'm a semi retired pediatric social worker. I grew up around the states and in Southeast Asia. Went to college in Connecticut, Mexico, on World Campus Afloat and finally years later, with lots of gaps for traveling, graduated at the University of Texas in Austin. After my two sons were successfully launched; one's an elite athlete and fireman and the other a pediatric PA, I began renovating the property as a nature preserve and guest house. I have now successfully hosted over a thousand guests and have expanded my exposure in hopes of enjoying an ever growing community of travelers. I love hosting and focus on making sure your travels are as pleasurably memorable as mine have been.
Why they chose this property
As a child, I always fantasized living in an old wooden home with lots of windows in a picturesque setting; the types often seen in the Grimm's fairy tale pictures. When I was ready to buy, I only looked at one home, one not usually on the market, a home typical of the 30's in Austin but now in a large wooded area just outside the southern city limits. As I walked onto the property my heart knew 'this is a grandmother's home!' and I was sold. Now, I garden endlessly with the goal of attracting birds, butterflies and all the small creatures seeking a haven. After all the traveling, I've found my Grimm Brothers' home and I am eager to share it with others.
What makes this property unique
I enjoy the fireflies and crickets, late night fires on the patio by the pond, enticing birds and humming birds to nest nearby, and, watching the fawns frolic. A moment later, I can spontaneously leave my retreat to join friends in town to enjoy Austin's great fare and Central Texas's wonderful rivers, all within minutes from my home.
